Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. ALL RIGHT.... finally got time to load some test rounds up and hit the range. Nothing exciting to report, other than the load works. I'll play with it some more to see what I can squeeze out it probably. 9mm 124gr LRN Bayou bullets, seated to 1.150, taper crimp at 0.375, two charge weights at 3.5 and 3.6gr of 700-X. 20rds of 3.5gr and 10rd of 3.6gr, ZERO malfunctions. The CZ ate them up and spit them out no problem. Plates fell over when I was doing my job. Noticeable difference in feel between 3.5 and 3.6gr which I thought was interesting, for such a small change in charge weight. A bit more snap at 3.6gr. Ejection was all uniform, right at 3 o'clock, where factory (PMC) was between 2-4 o'clock. At 3.5gr, I had a few hit the ground only a couple feet from me. At 3.6gr, all cases were between 4-6ft away. (Laying out a tarp makes tracking such things easy, and cleanup is MUCH easier for me) For now, I will continue loading at 3.6gr and shoot a bunch of them. Thanks for the help guys.
  2. Thank you gentlemen. I'm gonna try to get some put together this week and maybe fired this weekend. I'll report back when I have news.
  3. Well the plunk test wasn't too telling in my Kimber. At various lengths, including a COL 0.020 longer than MAX, it passed the plunk test. Cartridge BARELY fit in the magazine, and would get stuck in the ejection port. I was messing around with lengths trying to find one that would feed properly. Ended up ~0.035 longer than most of the data for that weight bullet called for, but finally got them feeding properly. Not that its relevant to this thread... but that was a 200gr LRN Bayou, now over 4.9gr of 700x at 1.270. Those were my first pistol hand loads though, so I try not to get too creative. Only been loading for my M1A for a couple years. Thank you for the welcome though.
  4. Hello gentlemen. First post here, but Dennis at Bayou Bullets said this was the place to find load data for his product. Managed to get by on my own with the .45 (after some serious COL experimentation) but no luck with 9mm data so far..... and a 1000 count of 124gr LRN just showed up today. That was FAST! So the long and short of it..... Im looking for some basic data for a 124gr cast, using 700-X. At least a safe range of charge weights to start with. I glanced at Hodgdon's data online, but thats for plated (similar I suppose), but I'd like another reference point and none of my manuals have 124gr cast data. If someone has happened to feed these same bullets (Bayou 124gr LRN) to a CZ-75 type, any COL recommendations would be appreciated as well. Thanks
