  1. I heard from a Walther Tech that the Q5 is all ready to be approved and as soon as they distribute 2000 it will be. Which must have been yesterday as the USPSA Production list now includes the Q5 Match. With an official weight of 26 oz. which combined with a Red dot comes well under the Carry Optics maximum. Walther's response really impressed me as I didn't mention exact details about getting approved and the rep directly mentioned the 2000 units requirement.

Based on my familiarity with the base PPQ and since I have spare mags to use as well, seriously thinking the Q5 Match is going to become my dedicated competition choice with being able to easily go from production to carry optics the clincher.

  2. Looks good. A fellow shooter at my last match mentioned they were hard to get off too during a competition for imprompto cleaning. Is that more of a non-issue then it seems? Especially when you are in a sport / division where you aren't going through a ton of mags a stage? (ie anything not USPSA Production / L10)

    Edit for another example

  3. try this topic

it covers a lot of range

my memory is the the fix is to properly fit drum or replace drum

btw the search feature on this forum is pretty good.

    miranda

    Thanks I'll dig through that.

And, DON'T rinse the water/Dawn off--just air dry.

Also, run some powdered graphite or a hopper of graphitized gun powder through the measure (something you should always do with every measure) one case at a time.

Is there a tension adjustment on the measure like the PPM? If so, clean out the measure and re-adjust the tension. Do not adjust tension until measure has been disassembled and completely cleaned of any trapped powder.

Sorry, though, but AA7 is a very small kernel powder--almost dust--and it leaks in other measures like the Dillon.

PS: if the Lee Auto-Drum is like the PPM, it will break-in (but I wouldn't use a leaky powder measure on the press).

There is some tension adjustment I believe. I'll take it apart, clean it and then some graphite to break it in. Makes me a bit sad that I have so much AA7 left to use up before getting a different brand.

If you haven't tried it yet wash the inside of the drum and the plastic drum insert in dawn and hot water.Mine was leaking at first after a good bath it works flawless now.

    Thanks I'll try it!

  4. I have just confirmed both through empirical experience and internet confirmation that Accurate #7 is a leaky powder, which is a bit of a shame as was one of the few powders locally available when I got setup with 8lbs of it. I recently upgraded to the Lee Auto-Drum on my Lee Turret press and a definite improvement over the auto-disk. However, the powder still leaks out between the plastic drum and metal enclosure. Not nearly as much as the disk but still very noticeable after a good reloading session. I tried googling and searching here but couldn't find anything helpful, would anyone have suggestions for mitigating this?

  5. Saw/handled one today. They had manufacturer's open house at one of our LGSs.

Only difference from a standard 5", was the comp sights, (fiber optic front), extra ports in the slide, and the optic mount. Rep said the trigger was the same, except for the color.

So not really a big deal unless you want optics

Thanks for bailing me out. I didn't go to the Walther event fairly close to me. My ardor diminished when I heard the Randy Lee trigger wasn't going into it. The MSRP is high for what they have added imo unless you really want to go optics division

Only around a hundred bucks more then what KY Guns is asking for a standard 5inch model. And based on pricing out milling a normal slide for an optic plus whatever the extra slide serrations / cuts would be seems worth it based on that alone. Though considering the cost of a specially made holster to accommodate the mount, probably a wash on price. I do agree that it is definitely a niche product but nice to see Walther trying.

  6. Here is what you guys at CZC really need to make. A steel insert that can be mounted in place of the optic with a dovetail in it to allow re-installation of a rear sight. This could allow the same gun to be used in CO or Production! As long as the NROI is ok with it...

Oh yes that would be good, either that or have two slides to switch back and forth

  7. Now I have something else I'll be saving up for, a CZC Carry Optics Accu-Shadow. One question at the moment, it looks like the rear iron sight has been removed as part of the process, so no way to shoot it accurately without the red dot sight? Just checking as would like to be able to shoot it if possible while saving up for an optic.

    Edit for clarity

  8. Not much to add except that I just started reloading and my only pistol right now is a PPQ 9mm as well. I use 147gr Blue Bullets and they wouldn't reliably pass a plunk and turn test until downgraded the OAL to just inbetween 1.13 and 1.14. With that they feed and fire fine.

  9. Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am using the Auto-Disk powder measure that doesn't have a chain so that confused me a little :surprise: But the links and info look to be invaluable in general and given me a lot to go over after my Range Officer class this weekend as have been busy with work and prepping for that. And yes, definitely the Pro Auto Drum is on my radar especially after so many mentions but one thing at a time.

  10. As far as not returning properly, make sure the tab from the lever is in the correct slot on the bottom of the disc. Also make sure the spring and return chain are configured correctly.

For the leakage, first check the wiper to make sure there isn't anything caught on it. And as ranger pointed out, make sure everything is square and tightened correctly. The discs are hard plastic but not perfect. I've lapped mine with 400 and then 800 grit wet dry paper. It's basically breaking them in faster. Once worn in, they seal quite well.

Thanks, I figured out the slot thing though instructions aren't very intuitive. Any advice for making sure the spring is configured correctly? I just took it out of the box and started using it.

  11. Hi all,

Finally joined after months of lurking. The info, experience, and helpfulness here is second to none so both exciting to start participating myself and cognizant of how much I have to learn. I am based in Northern NV and only do USPSA currently. Been an official member since January '15 but haven't been very focused on practice or regular match attendance yet. That is going to change next year as going to establish a regular dryfire schedule and attend every one of my clubs monthly matches. As part of that currently deciding on what pistol to choose as my dedicated competition gun. Fairly certain going to stick with Production as getting into reloading is another goal and having to learn both reloading in general at the same time loading for major PF doesn't seem wise to me.
