  1. I fitted a CZ extractor to my old small frame Tanfo. Main issue was to drill the pin hole larger. It was difficult due to the hard material. Otherwise not difficult at all. Needed to take some material off to avoid contact with the barrel. I assume the 9 mm extractor is the same for small and large frame Tanfos.

  2. Make sure that the FPB can move freely. Maybe it has been peened by the firing pin. Possibly a too tightly set trigger stop could do that. However, in my case old dried low quality oil and cold weather was enough for rack-bang.

Or just leave the FPB out. Put mine back in my old Witness only because of IDPA rules.

The gun isn't drop safe, the Tanfoglio firing pin block is terrible design and only stops the firing pin when the gun is cocked (technically when the sear drops into the sear hooks of the hammer, an arm on the opposite side of the sear goes up and then engages the firing pin block). I removed all of mine.

I'm there there are a few threads on here where I go into more detail.

In addition, if the fpb does not move freely it will trip the sear when the slide goes forward. Gun goes bang when you rack the slide. Nasty on the range, potentially deadly in an empty chamber carry/home defense scenario.

  4. I guess this case is settled. But if you have issues with your Tanfo going bang when it should not, note that a sticky firing pin block may also trip the sear when the slide goes forward. Unique to the Tanfo FPB system where the FPB spring actually helps to trip the sear.

I think it's for competitors who use the Shadow 2 as their competition gun. Now they have a carry option that is very similar to what they compete with. If I carried this compact, I would manually de-cock to the half cock position.

Rather just lower the hammer completely and let the inertia firing pin do its job as intended. If dropped on the hammer the half cock notch might shear of and the gun go bang.

There was a reason why the Colt SAA was carried with only 5 rds instead of using the safety notch...

Fwiw referring back to the safety/firing pin issue I have two shadows, one open sights one red dot.

the open sights has a cgw extended firing pin. a while back I loaded both with a primed case, whacked the hammer 2- 3 times with my plastic mallet, gun in vise, no ignition.

ditto the newer shadow with red dot, which has factory firing pin. I believe they were CCI primers.

This is completely unscientific, of course, and may not apply to anyone else’s firearms, but I thought I’d tell you what I found.

I would just measure. As long as the firing pin is shorter than it's channel you should be ok. But of course it's more fun to use a hammer. 😁

My question is specifically around the rear sight.  I was going to try and replace that hunk of metal with a piece of plastic from a 3D printer..  Do you think that would do the trick and give me back 1oz?  Anyone have any CAD files of the rear sight or better dimensions?  reference

My Shadow 2 rear sight is just 16 grams. That's .56 ounces.

You've put up with this problem for that amount of time?

According to what I read the brass doesn't extract from the chamber, is that correct.?

    After all you've done to chase the issue down it can only come down to a few of things;

The gun has an alignment problem between barrel, slide facer and extractor. It would seem the odd brass with a smaller groove isn't being retained by the extractor hook.

Since the cost and local difficulties of getting a new gun are prohibitive I would suggest you do some modification to the extractor it self. A little filing to make it move closer to the brass may help.  I've circle the surface face you would remove a little at time to see if it helps your problem.

For my Tanfoglio this helped more than a Wolff extra power spring. I took 0.2 mm which may be excessive, 0.1 mm is a better starting point.

11/7/2020.  GENESEE CONSERVATION LEAGUE. Rochester. NY.  Dropped firearm discharged.  I believe it a Shadow, which does not have a firing pin block, according to one source.  Pistol missed holster when reholstering after "Make Ready".  An indoor range.  Pistol fell striking floor hammer first.  I is what I found searching.  Cannot vouch for how accurate except for gun that does not have FPBS, location, date, and one person killed.

The only explanation for this accident I can think of is that the firing pin was longer than it's channel. Are extended firing pins really this long? This would completely defeat the inertia firing pin principle.

  10. How to tell if it's a nitride barrel?

Have a new Shadow 2 with 2% extraction failures. Extractor tension seems normal, certainly no less than on my Shadow 1 with zero extraction issues. Wondering if to start with polishing chamber or extractor / extractor spring. An extractor fix on a new gun seems rather like a workaround of an underlying problem.

  11. The German magazine Caliber tested the S2 Orange in Feb. 2020. 10 shot groups at 25 meters from a Ransom rest. Groups averaged 55 mm (2.2''). Geco bulk ammo was 51 mm, just over 2''. Can't recall Shadow 2 results but the same Geco stuff gave them 60 mm (2.4'') with a Shadow 1 a few years back. The Orange does not seem that much of an improvement in mechanical accuracy.
