there are several that will work. Google is your friend.
Posted this question after searching with Google. Lots of USPSA confirmations on making weight, but can't find details for the IDPA limit.

IDPA CO division lists a 45oz. max weight for gun plus empty mag. The Q5 SF spec lists weight as 41.5 ozs. empty. Is there an RDS that will make weight on this gun for that division?

My MPX runs like a charm when I feed it bulk commercial ammo like Winchester White Box or Blazer Brass. It does not like my soft 147 competition handloads, and in all honesty, I have no need to feed it softer ammo. Because of the current ammo crisis, I'm trying to create a load that attempts to achieve the reliability of this economy ammo for use in my MPX and my wife's Glocks. I intend to also use it when I do some of my firearms instruction with new shooters.
I picked up some 115gr. 9mm Bayou Bullets and worked up a load with Titegroup that seems to provide adequate power/pressure for the MPX. The problem is that the first two rounds didn't feed smoothly and had to be mortared out of the chamber. Both came out with a dent in the nose from feeding. I was able run a few mags worth through the gun successfully after that, but I'm worried that the bullet shape/ogive is not optimum for the gun. When I compared the shape of these to WWB and Blazer Brass, I see that the ogive is sharper on the commercial ammo, so the bullet is longer. Per the reloading references, I am supposed to load mine to 1.1 OAL while the commercial stuff measures out at 1.4. I tried seating the Bayous at 1.4 but they failed the plunk test on a Glock 34 (which is another gun these are intended for). At 1.1 they pass the plunk test in the G34.So, my question is whether anyone knows a coated 115gr. bullet that has a sharper ogive than Bayou's, or what is your recipe if you've loaded coated 115s successfully for your MPX.

Why replace the front sight?

I was wondering the same thing. Is the Dawson sight noticeably narrower?

I would recommend just shooting it a while and figure it out from there. It may be perfect for you out of the box. I put in all the go fast parts and ended up going back to the stock parts with 11lb recoil/hammer springs and a set of Lok grips.
I have about 500-600 rounds through it at this point. I'm a long-time striker-fired pistol guy, but not a novice with DA/SA guns. I've shot stock CZs, as well as ones fully worked over by Cajun. So, I'm pretty comfortable with the delta between where it is now versus where it could theoretically be taken. It's a damn good gun, but I see how it could benefit from a few tweaks. Just wanted to find out what people think those minor mods should be.

Recently bought an S2 and I would like to improve the gun (within reason). Not interested in sending it off to CZC or CGW...just want to do what I can with DIY upgrades that require no (or very minute) gunsmithing.
Given those constraints, what would experienced users of Shadow 2s suggest I look at with my gun? Input appreciated.

I highly doubt it. I would say reliable ignition is mostly based on your firing pin length (extended or not), the firing pin spring (reduced or factory), and hammer spring.

Happy answers. Thank you!

Anybody know if the RRK forces you to use Federal primers in your ammo? Or are the harder primers like CCI still viable?

Hopefully it won't go off if you drop it...
Ack. Just reading about that now. Not good (although they said the X5 with flat trigger does not appear to have the problem).

I finally went and handled a regular P320 this weekend. I thought overall it was a nice gun, pointed well. I was not impressed by the trigger. It was fairly heavy and had a kinda creepy, mushy feel to the break. I thought that by the way people talked about it that it would be better.
Nope. It's a good trigger. But like any other striker-fired production gun, it isn't a "custom" trigger. A good shooter can make do with it as is. Or it can be modified by a smith or enhancement kit to work better for a shooter's skill set.

I was hoping they would do that too but I doubt hey will for a little while. The demand will be so high they probably won't be able to supply parts. They will all be allocated to new complete guns. Would def be nice tho.
I'm not optimistic. I can see Sig saying that the X5 is a special product that is degraded when not purchased as a complete unit. Therefore it will never be available as a conversion kit. I like my P320, but Sig works hard to change my mind about that.

Can you just swap all the guts of the regular 320 into the x5?
More importantly, will the X5 be available as a kit for existing 320 users? Or when they said that it was a modular system, were they only kidding (kind of like with the .45acp option)?

IDPA apparently reserves the right to change its mind
Sanctioned match officials are not the same as organization officials. This is like a someone okaying a new-to-market mod at a regional match equipment check, but then NROI later announces the mod is not legal.
That at being said, I do agree that the sport has a tried-and-true history of inconsistency. IMO, this is one of the problems with it being a privately owned entity. The membership is not entitled to having a say in any of the decision making process.

Seeing lots of aggressive pricing on MPX Gen1 mags, but I have a Gen2 gun. Sig says the combination will work, but can anyone provide real-world experience?
-
Someone has to take responsibility. If you try to do everything by committee, you destroy all efficiency.
A DQ call should be made if there is no question by the RO that the offense occurred. But sometimes the RO sees it wrong, and sometimes the shooter fervently believes they didn't commit the offense when they actually did. It's the breaks, especially when the shooter is pushing the performance limits that they approach DQ territory.
I believe though that major match directors should spend some time looking into the reputation of the people who sign up to RO their match. Personally, I know a handful of ROs who I will never let work at a match of mine because they have no objectivity and are too focused on their personal authority. It is important to keep the range nazis out of the championship matches because they cannot leave their personal biases at home.

Still no trigger kits for these guns? Shame. Was thinking about picking one up. The recent ones seem to have fairly decent triggers, but just not anything remarkable. The lack of an appreciable aftermarket keeps me away from these guns.
Agreed. I know people say that the triggers smooth out into the 4.5-5# range, but I want 2-3# in my competition guns. Given the target market of this model, it's really disappointing that FN has not done much work on market acceptance.

I think IDPA blew it!! The changes in USPSA Carry Optics division rules leave IDPA in the dust.
When the most recent IDPA rule book revisions were made they chose to create a CCD division, but not a division for optical sights. They could have been first to adopt this technology, but the conservative members would not listen. USPSA chose to investigate this use and have now chosen to make it mainstream for the current Production division guns (with a suitable weight limit) and create a Carry Optics division. It is almost impossible to believe that red dot optics will not essentially replace all iron sights for police and military use in the immediate future. The general pistol market will follow quickly. With so many pistols being sold for self defense in this crazy world, owners will want to hit what they are aiming at rather than provoke a fight that they might very well lose.
It is amazing that IDPA proposes to go to a 1point down = 1 second penalty to emphasize the need to avoid collateral damage while ignoring the most effective method to make shots more accurate....optical sights.
I predict the complete collapse of IDPA because gun owners will immediately adopt a sight that is not legal for IDPA competition. For those who say they can still adopt optical sights, I say nonsense. They ignored the obvious technology switch, locked themselves into a 2 year ban on rule changes, do not recognize the fact that any IDPA shooter who tries USPSA will never come back to IDPA and its subjective procedural penalties.
10,000 people carry compact guns on a daily basis. 317 people use carry optics on a daily basis. IDPA made the right call since they were only adding one division. Better to go with one that actually represents real shooters rather than going with the trendy one.

With that said, I think people that participate in IDPA are leaps and bounds more capable of defending themselves in a gunfight than the majority of CHL holders that punch holes in paper MAYBE once a month. Your repeatedly practicing drawing your firearm (under light stress), getting rounds on target and reloading your firearm. Some light moving while shooting and all that stuff. I should be well prepared for any altercation at a poker table...Ha. I also think that a frequent IDPA shooter is more prepared than most criminals would be. This is assuming your not going up against a gang of bank robing ex-SF guys.
So....why do so many comment about how IDPA is usless as defensive training? I understand its not "training", but I assume they would at least agree its better than not practicing at all. What would be the proper civilian training to prepare yourself for a real world gunfight?
IDPA (and most gun games) are great because they refine and hone your weapon handling mechanics. Draws, transitions, recoil recovery, reloads, malfunction recoveries...all much-needed skills that are perfected by gun games. With IDPA, there is some added benefit of learning to shoot from around cover without exposing yourself to the target excessively.
But gun games can also build false expectations of the what you will encounter in the real world...knowing how many targets you'll encounter, expecting them to stand still and perpendicular to your shooting position, rewarding you for moving through an environment as fast as possible. All of these are very bad expectations. The closest that a gun game can demonstrate how these are bad is to put on you on a completely blind stage (no knowing locations OR number of targets) at a major championship. But that is illegal in every shooting sport.
So, shooting sports are fantastic for mechanics, but horrible for tactics. If you want to get trained for a real fight, then you need to be placed in situations where you don't know where the targets are and how many you need to engage, and then be taught the methodology for dealing with that situation. You'll find that the "go fast" mindset of IDPA and USPSA will actively work against you.
-
Yes, it's fun but it is subtly different than USPSA. IDPA is more scripted than USPSA. In USPSA, you have a lot of flexibility on how you are going to shoot a stage, but in IDPA 99% of competitors will shoot the stage exactly the same way as one another. It will test the skills of all the shooters in nearly the exact same way.
It is different because of the loss of the mental/strategy component, but there are still many, very good shooters who enjoy IDPA.no ...
BOOM!
Question answered, thread closed!I'm confused why you two are posting here if it isn't fun.
-
I like the rule and hope it doesn't change. Although IDPA isn't training, it is inspired by some CCW/self-defense fundamentals. The cover garment is one them, regardless of the fact that 5.11 Vests are the de facto standard. The game has rules, and people who want to win will try to use the best equipment allowed within those rules.
As for transitioning between IDPA and USPSA, practice more. With enough practice, you can learn to deal with the differences between drawing with a garment on versus without one.
I wonder if there is any chance that the rule might be lifted, assuming others feel the same way?In purpose I can see the reasoning behind the rule, but in practice most folks adapt a specialized idpa garment that they would never wear outside of a match and some folks are open carry people anyway, so it seems like the rule does not really accomplish much.
-
Did anyone in Berryville think this whole process through?
Why would they need to? They own the sport. It is has never been (more than a token) about what the membership wants.
