Logistics question since I've never been there before.  Should we plan to bring carts, or do you drive from stage to stage?

In years past you had to park at Krilling and you were bussed to Parks. It was rifle/pistol, so you just carried what you needed on that stage on the bus. Not sure how they'll do it this year. I picked up a cheap sling bag in case we do that again. If they do a staggered squad format again there should be plenty of time between stages to go to your car for the stages on Krilling. All that being said; I'm bringing my cart because it's my woobie?. Also my SG won't fit in a bag.

My  error then, last I read was 9 stages. Seemed odd that there were 24 squads, but hey, who's counting? OK, so we need to be onsite on the 16th, we shoot 4 stages each day, one on, one off, with the actual shooting on Fri-Sat and Sun.

Yeah, the 16th is for registration and walk through. I think they did have registration very early on Friday for those not there Thursday in 2015. Also, we only shot one stage (some squads 2) on Sunday to have time for awards/prizes. They said it'll be on 3 ranges this year, so that will be cool too. I understand they didn't shoot long range last year.

I say all this with the understanding that the "Man" can change any thing at any time.

That would add up to 12 stages, I read there are 9 stages. Tying to figure out their matrix. 200 slots? plus sponsors? Staff? or 200 total? how many stages a day? 3? 4? Shoot 4, 4, 1? 3, 3, 3,? There is a lot that goes into the scheduling of a match. Size of Squad, Average turn around on a stage, number of stages? figure 6 minutes to shoot and reset, 10 minutes to walk through and 12 shooters, 82 minutes, that leaves 8 minutes grace if you figured 90 minutes per squad. Then your squad could be 'off' for an hour and a half. I figure 9 stages means 18 squads realistically, unless there is a special shoot it all in one day group. so concentrating on the 3 day flight. 12 shooters and 18 squads gives us 216 shooters and a reasonable match pressure for the staff. 11 shooters makes it much better. Hopefully we'll get the answers sooner rather than later.

What's up guys! I haven't been active on the forum for a good while, but came back to check the discussion on FBMG 2017. I know a lot don't "FaceSpace" so here is what has been posted on the match.

"Mark your Calendars! The 2017 Fort Benning Multi-Gun Challenge will be held 16-19 Nov 2017. This year we will guarantee that we will have at least 40 guns on the prize table! Registration and walk-thru will be on the 16th with at least 12 stages on the 17th- 19th.  What stages will the United States Marksmanship Unit build next year?"

They are showing 24 squads on the signup (though squadding is not open yet.) That would be like 2015 where they staggered the squads per stage if they will do 12 stages this year.

40 guns, Grunt Style is doing the Tshirts and XS Sights just sponsored and put some stuff on the prize table. Getting better all the time. I shot it in 2015 and can't WAIT to get back. Should be a blast!

  4. Daniel and crewe are hosting a great match!! thanks Folks.... if you didnt come this year you are missing out on some great stages.

Sign me up for next year already!!.

    ^^This!

...except for Stage 10. I found IT rather evil.

I haven't shot stage 10 yet. It's tomorrow, but it does look evil. The barbed wire looks like the easiest part of the stage.

Yep! I had a ball shooting it, but it ate me up. The stage, not the wire. Lol

  5. In case anyone else happens on this issue;

I called C-Rums and he explained why this is happening and that removing the inner shell catch spring and/or switching to the milder slugs should solve it. I feel a lot better now. Super nice and another +1 for C-Rums here.

  6. Try with full magazine vs 1 round in magazine. If the results differ it points to a magazine spring weakness.

Results were the same. I had one round feed properly out of a full tube about halfway though. Nordic spring cut to 13" past the end of the tube. Zero problem like this with any birdshot loads.

The mag spring was one of my thoughts, but it's like the shell catch isn't releasing. Why would/could hotter ammo cause that after changing the carrier when it worked OK previously?

  7. I'm on my phone so I'll try to answer everything.

It was last cleaned the day before the match but I checked slug and buck poi at the practice range and did a little skeet side event with it before using it in the match. So it was clean with about 30 rounds through it.

I lightly oiled the gas pistons but they are dry now. They also move freely back and forth.

It has always run everything without a hiccup and has o probably over 1k through it but only about 50 slugs and 20 buck.

Exactly what it's doing is it will fire but not eject the spent shell. I had to cycle the bolt manually to eject and chamber each round.

It did it every time with slugs, most of the time with buck and some times with bird.

I was running AA 1300fps 7 1/8th bird, Winchester 1oz rifled slugs, and Federal LE reduced recoil buck.

I know this is an old thread, but I was curious if you ever figured yours out.

I have a VM Tactical that suddenly won't load the Winchester bulk 1oz 1300fps slugs. They cycled fine before I had C-Rums weld a carrier. It runs bird ok with a couple jams on the sharp chamber (I'll work on that later). The problem seems to be that it is not releasing the slug onto the carrier as a pulled trigger on the empty chamber releases a shell and not a double feed. Gonna try some milder slugs, but right now its a bolt operated slug gun.

Edit: If anyone else has any clue, I'm all ears. Need to work it out before tomorrow afternoon for Ft Benning.

  8. Problem is now solved! Wife decided she needed a new phone so I upgraded to iPhone 6 as well.

With the 6, this app is even more better! Not only can I actually choose .223, but it now lists the Fiocchi 55gr FMJ (223A) I'm currently running!

This may be a long shot, but can anyone confirm the 3264 f/s attributed muzzle velocity from a 16" 1/7" barrel? I am chrony-less at the present moment.

  9. BigBets,

Daniel sent out a link a while back with the squadding link attached, in the last email from actionshooting2004@gmail.com. I do not have it handy, but maybe someone will attach it to a post

email me at trey.ahlgrim@hotmail.com and I will send it to you.

    Trey

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that your own "personal" that would only allow you to squad?

Per the note at the top of the PS link:

Thank you for participating in the Fort Benning Multigun 2015. You can now view your registration, payment, and squadding here on this page.

This page is private to you, do not share this page with anyone else unless you want them to pay, squad or edit your info.

  10. For everyone else,

I'm sending out a email letting you know as well, but here is the first stage!!

    http://fortbenningmultigun.com/#stages

We have a couple of more done and will be releasing them one day at a time, so check back tomorrow for the next one. We are really lookinging forward to the match and can't wait to see everybody!

    Thanks for the patience,

    Daniel

    On a completely unrelated topic;

Happy Veterans Day, Daniel! Appreciate ya!

  11. But I agree that the individual SO should call cover consistently with ALL shooters to the best of their ability. Anything less or biased is not acceptable.

...right now, what one SO consider cover may be a procedural by another...

And I'm saying, that's OK, part of the sport, necessary and actually serves an important function.

    Again, JMO.

So I shoot all season using cover one way...which has not been called all season...I go to a major match and I get called cover for the same thing I have been doing all season? Subjectivity should not be part of the sport...subjectivity serves nothing...

Hey, I'm just sharing my opinion on the OP's question.

Yeah, that's a bummer, but I'm sure you'll get 'em next time.

  13. Those that slow down and approach the line with care, as in real life, will fare better in the long run.

Not in the sport of IDPA...where you are constantly on the clock. To slow down is to give up time to the opponent...This is a game, and in the game, those who finish with the fastest time wins...those with the slower times because of cover penalties loses... everything else remains the same, a subjective cover call may just make the difference in winning or not winning.

And to me, the D in IDPA demands that. They can't make the targets shoot back (or most wounldn't participate if they did). The cover call is the equivalent of giving your opponent too much of an advantage. There should be a consequence to that. What advantage the "line rider" gains in time sometimes, will cost him other times. It all equals out over time. Maybe not during a single match, but over a season.

Just the way I look at it. But I agree that the individual SO should call cover consistently with ALL shooters to the best of their ability. Anything less or biased is not acceptable.

  14. I'm new to the game, but here is my thought on the cover rule and application of it. These are based on my interpretations of the stated goals of IDPA in general.

The cover line is the LIMIT of your exposure to the target. It is not meant to be the EXACT position for engaging a target. The fact that it is somewhat subjective to the perception of each individual SO is OK. In a real life scenario, that cover line could also be fluid and not well defined. The point is to slow down and find the point that YOU can engage the target without exposing yourself to the target. Because the lines are open to the interpretation of the SO, those that try to run right to the very LIMIT of the line will find themselves crossing it on occasion. Those that slow down and approach the line with care, as in real life, will fare better in the long run. It all equals out. Of course, I rodeo'd a little in my youth, so a judge's interpretation and perception, as well as luck of the draw, are an acceptable concept to me.

The point I'm making is; don't worry so much about each SOs interpretation. The concept behind the rule is more important, IMHO, YMMV, etc.

  15. If nothing else, I'll say this developers CS is top notch! I emailed him today asking about the progress of a fix. He replied within a few minutes saying that the update had been submitted for Apple approval 5 days ago. I've never tried to reach a developer before, but this level of communication is nothing short of amazing.
