Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Ok, I had a XL650 for 10 years and did not have this problem. I just purchased a Super 1050 used, only loaded 45ACP. I converted to 30-06 and started to reload using IMR4895 (before we start, I know IMR 4895 is not a friendly powder for the Dillon powder measure but I used it for years without the issue I have now) To preface, when I got the 1050, I completely disassembled it and cleaned it thoroughly as it was very dirty. I checked for burrs and tuned it using all of the info on the internet from Dillon to other sources. It is tight/no play on the shell plate and indexes precisely. The powder measure is the one that came with the machine and I torn it down and polished the funnel and drop tube, slicked up the powder bar also. The polishing was done after cleaning and running into the issue I have now. I first ran cases through one at a time and adjusted the powder measure and was getting some drift ie; about a .5 gr so, I disassemble the measure and did all of the polishing etc. and still had the same drift. I had already inserted a piece of dryer sheet with no avail. I then installed a baffle with no difference and then a airpump and still get the same drift results. To add, when I got within about .2 or .3 gr drift, I began loading the press up to full shell plate population and then I began getting a 1 gr higher load than with the shell plate empty and that would drift about the same .5 gr. Everything is tight, powder measure is not loose, I even switched to a magnum powder bar but that didn't help. I then removed the large powder bar slide and installed it in the magnum bar with same issue. I don't know where to go from here. I also changed the fail safe mechanism with a new one off of a new powder measure. The fail safe swap didn't work so I re installed the new parts on the new powder measure without polishing the funnel etc. on it, installed it and still have the issue. I then polished the new powder measure to no avail. I also get a kernal of powder that drops out every so often, not every charge but enough to stop and clean after a 100 rds or so. I also run slow and count to five before cycling the handle back up slowly. The powder measure does not have any slop in it that I can measure either. Any ideas?? BTW the charge I'm looking for is 47.5 IMR4895 for a Garand. At this point I guess I have to live with the drift since the ammo is for target practice and a simple old military rifle match, no one is that good in the match anyway.
