Most matches have you carry the bagged rifle to the Line or a berm to unbag. I don't keep anything in the gun case other than the gun for that reason. My range bag with everything else rides in the wagon.

That's a good point, that may cause me to go a little more minimalist.

  2. Which soft case for a 16" PCC AR-9?  Looking for something minimalist to carry at matches.  Cost not a concern.  Wouldn't be averse to something that can be slung like a backpack...  pics would be awesome if anyone has a favorite.

Hello: I have a QC10 Glock lower and it works great. One thing is buy good parts to build it up with--don't cheap out or you will be buying stuff twice. That is what I have seen with quite a few PCC builds around here. On mine I am using a Hiperfire 24C trigger, RRA selector, Ergo grip, Strike Industries bolt release, Mil Spec buffer tube and a Mission First Tactical stock. If you are going to spend the money buy a good trigger that is known to work with a PCC. That will be money well spent. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric

Thanks that's good feedback.  I intend to go with a JP complete upper and a AR Gold or Hyperfire trigger, with the JP piston buffer.  Saves about $500 over the cost of a complete JP rifle.

Um.  Accuracy doesn't depend on barrel length.  (It might depend on sight radius for many people in terms of precision, but with a dot that's not an issue.)  Similarly, "consistent grouping" doesn't depend on barrel length.

Open guns tend to have longer barrels because it makes it easier to make major (longer barrel = more velocity).  Similarly, it is easier to make Minor with low-power loads using a G34 compared to a G17.  (As an example.)

Mass, and placement of mass, I agree, can assist in recoil management (or at least change the recoil impulse).

I don't believe I've ever run into anyone who said the longer barrel on their Open gun helped them be more accurate, or more consistent in their group sizes.

You should definitely mount your Optic to an M&P shield compact.

The damn pics were there when I hit submit.

I can't get these pics to load and it's not worth its if you would like to see these pics on me.

I have 4 popple holes in my Hybrid barrel and I have no issues with a dirty lens using an Everglades mount. Plus it's centered far better than the Cheely mount.

The holes in the frame from the Arradondo to the Cheely are the same as the Everglades mount.  I have found It's a standard setting between most builders.

    Good to know thanks!

  6. Built an M&P core pro with a Leupold DP Pro.  If I had it to do over again I would have gone with the new Sig P320 X5 with a Romeo 1.

As to your question about long slide guns when using an optic...the fundamentals of design don't change when you bolt on a dot.  Longer barrels equal more accuracy, consistent groupings, and more total mass which assists recoil management.  Look at the length of a quality open gun...

I ran an arrendondo mount with a vortex and never ever ever had anything on the glass. Switched to a cheely mount and a DPP and my glass is black after 300 rounds. Freaking sucks.

I don't have your problem though, I leave my dot on all day for the match. I dry fired, live fired, and shot ~8 matches in a month and only changed the battery because I was going to area 6.

I would be mad mad if I had to turn this thing on and off every stage. That's my one, rather large complaint with the DPP, it's a major pain to turn on and off, and adjust.

Agreed it's a pain, Love the sight itself, when it works it works well...but I'm about 5 minutes from going back to a cmore.

  8. Has anyone seen a removable blast shield for the DP Pro?  Having some issues with carbon messing with the motion sensor hole.  I've temporarily solved it by putting a paster over the hole and turning my dot on and off manually each stage but need a permanent fix. Was wondering if there's something out there that could be slipped between the mount and the dot was t able to find anything though.  Currently running the arrendondo mount, and have Atlas Gunworksnmakingnme an new one with a blast shield but that will be some weeks.

I'm in the Lucas Oil Outdoor Line camp.

Primarily I use the extreme duty gun oil and I think that's all I have on this right now. Sometimes I use extreme duty gun grease on the rails and usually it in the trigger components since it stays well in there.

I've tried some Mili-Tec products in a few of my guns with very good results on break in.  I use Lucas Oil or CLP day to day...but the militec seems to dramatically reduce breaking in time...fire a few rounds get the gun heated up and drown it in the stuff, then shoot a bunch of Bill drills, let it cool and repeat.
