I ended up finding M4-.7 x 6mm flat head machine screws at a local industrial hardware supply store that a gunsmith told me about. They work perfectly. The only issue is there are silver instead of black. It saved me time and money over cutting down the factory screws that came with the gun and with the thumb rests I bought.

    Looks like they're $.65 for a 3-pack on Home Depot's website.

The thumb rest is now perfectly positioned for me and the thumb rest below allows me to put my thumb along the frame like with a regular two-handed grip.

I know this is like pulling up a zombie thread, but I am pretty desperate to find where you got that thumb rest. I want the exact same thing for my TSO. Thanks!

Tornado Technology will turn down the end of your barrel, cut a male thread and add a treaded extension: http://www.tornado-technologies.com/category/BRTH/Barrel-Threading/1.html

Except I have been informed this won't work with a tapered barrel that matches to the bushing so tightly like the TS.

I am familiar eith tornado technologies for threading kadet kits. I just don't know if there is even enough barrel meat left in day the .40 caliber barrel at the muzzle to thread a tapered extension.

  3. I am sure this has come up before, but I wanted to see if anyone knew of a smith or barrel maker capable of making what I am looking for.

Essentially, I want a threaded barrel for my TS orange. No one makes this, though I believe it is possible to accomplish. As far as I understand it, the barrel width and engagement with the bushing would not be impacted by extending the barrel past this point and threading it. So the problem then is a barrel long enough to accomplish this as the stock TS barrel is 5.2" in length.

Enter Novo Precision. http://www.novoprecision.com/products/pistol-barrel-blanks/  They can make a custom barrel blank at up to 7" in length, which is more than the size needed.

What I am looking for is a smith or barrel shop willing to take custom orders, and has the capability to machine the breech, chamber, feed ramp, barrel taper etc. on a blank from Novo.

Before the suggestions come in, I will let you know where I have already asked: CZ Customs and Cajun Gun Works. The former could not lose the production time due to retooling to do it, and the latter said they do not make their own barrels in house. So since Stuart and Micah don't have the ability right now to do this, is there anyone out there who does?

I am open to any / all suggestions if you feel the smith is competent or has previous experience with custom barrels. Especially if they have experience with CZ barrels.

    Thanks all!

  4. I wanted the base pad in black, but alas CZ custom was sold out of black. May still anodize it orange or black. Gun is fun, but that thumb rest makes me go :( Too small for my hands. Actually debating buying a czechmate scope mount and hacking it off to be even with the frame top because it fits the notch in the frame the thumb rest sits in. That way I can have a flat surface to mount a better thumb rest into, as well as further forward on the gun.

  5. Personally I find the thumb rest a bit small. It's better with the pin vs the slide stop as you can get more meat on it, but I still find my thumb hanging off it. Feels fine in dry fire, live fire is a different story. Have one of these on my czechmate, have one on the way for the TSO. Not 100% sure it will fit in the inset on the frame, and really don't want to take apart my scope on the CM to find out.

    https://cpwsa.com/collections/pistol-accessories/products/cz-czechmate-and-ts-thumb-rest

The thing with the TSO is the thumb rest is machined for that notch. That thumb rest you linked to is not, just supposed to sit over he czechmate scope mount. I would have loved if CZ made the same thumb rest, but at least made it in 3 different models. Each one would utilize a different variation of the three screw holes in the frame relative to the thumb rest. The default on the TSO uses the two foward most screw holes and the thumbrest is forged over the last one. If they offered options to cover hole 2 and hole 1 with the thumb rest forging, pushing the thumb rest further forward, it would work better for more peope's hands.

Having long fingers, the current location is not ideal and forces a significant grip change from my production shadow for my support hand.

  6. Anyone know if there is an alternative to the TS slide release that comes with the TS orange? I had a hard time utilizing the thumb rest wtih the slide release in the way. I do not care to be able to send the slide home as it will be a limited gun. I feel the thumb rest is a bit undersized, and not very far forward.

Many of the surfaces were quite sharp. I ended up drawing blood on my support hand thumb due to the sharp corners. Anyone got anything to replace the slide stop with a flush fitting pin?

  7. I want hear range reports. From what I can tell, there is nothing to improve upon with this pistol.

Could probably use some slide lightening.

I agree with this. I got mine today, and it is quite the gun. The slide could use a bit of chop, but honestly, it feels like a chechmate with iron sights. Insanely good.

  8. So, my local dealer just heard that CZ USA got in a shipment of 21 TS Oranges! Should be some excited folks that pre-ordered!!

Who is the dealer? I would like to buy one that is not spoken for if there are any.

  9. TS Orange adds to basic TS:

    - Hand fitted and polished barrel

    - New barrel design (link area?) and more durable material

    - Hand fitted slide to frame

    - Black frame

    - Enhanced Czechmate-style grip and triggerguard

    - Beefier dust cover

    - Thumb rest

    - Competition hammer

    - Trigger job

    - ø1.0 mm fiber optic front sight

    - Hight adjustable rear sight (not sure about the .40 model)

    - Al grip panels

    - Al magazine pads x3

    - Large case (same as with Czechmate)

This not for the builders, there nothing left to desire :). I think it would worth of the additional price. Mine should be coming in few weeks.'m Im

I'm sorry... Yours should be coming in a few weeks?!?!?! WHAT!?! WHERE?! HOW!?! WHO!?! SHARE DETAILS MAN!?!!

I've got a project in mind using a 6" barrel and the full length of a TS slide, taking inspiration for lightening from this pair built by a friend on the other side of the world:

Tell me who did the work for that bottom gun? I am 100% certain I want to turn my shadow frame into that beauty exactly.

  10. I worked the chrono stage on Thursday while staff shot, the box is certainly metal. It's the offical USPSA box with hinged metal lid. We had atleast 5 SP01's and shadows come through while I was there that all passed. My own SP01 Shadow Target with factory shadow mag fit as well. The box that's being used was on the uspsa store prior to them 'closing it for renovations', not sure who the manufacturer is.

"Handgun with empty magazines inserted must fit wholly within a box with internal dimensions of 8 15/16” x 6” x 1 5/8” (tolerance +1/16”, -0”) (USPSA Rules, Feb 2014)"

Simple check, draw a box on paper, see if you can place gun with your magazine combo fully within your lines looking down on all edges. I did this on the back side of my cleaning mat on the gun bench when I started shooting a grand power in production, as it didn't look like it'd fit (but did, passing my test and the box at A6 in April). Sorry it happened at a major match though.

Then they might have used a different box the day I shot. It was absolutely 100% not metal to the touch when I was at the tent. If it was painted/ coated in something that made it feel plastic, then OK, but it did not appear that way from my limited interaction with it.

  11. Problem #1 you have a variety of magazines. This is just setting you up to fail. The fix= get rid of all the magazine/base pad that don't fit the box, replace with ones that fit the box. This way there will be no mistakes of I grab the wrong mag from my belt in the future.

I am not disagreeing with you on the magazine variety being a non-ideal situation. I was ordering them as I could based on budget. I had the three I got with the gun, and had some mecgars as well. I had gotten springer base pads to make them all the same height, as you can order them for each mag to make them match. Springer did not have enough bare aluminum base pads to fulfill my order so I only had them on 4 out of 6 magazines by the time I left for area 8. Otherwise, i would have had them all the same.

  12. Do you have a set of calipers available to check the actual height of the rear sight (from the top flat of the slide)?

I measured the rear sight from the top of the slide: measurements are in inches and only approximate as the sight orientation doesn't allow for easy measurement from the top of the slide: Using Frankford arsenal calipers I get 0.352 from the slide top to the top of the read sight.

  13. My Shadow sp01 and my daughters sp01 passed. We are using sp base pads. Both were very close, but they always are really close. I am pretty sure the box was polymer. I can look tomorrow and try to measure with pictures.

That would be great if you could do that for me. Thanks!

  14. I have a CZ 75 SP01 Shadow by CZ Custom. It has adjustable sights. I use MecGar 17-rd mags with Springer base pads; they're the same height as the stock CZ 18-round mags that come with the CZ Custom gun. At Area 8 it dropped right into the box and had room to wiggle around, no "press fit" or whatever. Other CZs in my squad passed the box in the same manner.

Not sure what happened to OP. Could he have mistakenly been using mags with extended base pads (which CZ-C sells and are handy for Limited, but won't pass Production?)

BTW, did the MD actually *say* "tough nuggies"?

Agree with having measuring tools, just in case.

My gun does not have adjustable sights. The sights have no been touched since leaving the factory.

I shoot with a friend who had a shadow as well. He had no problems with any of the mags we tested. Both the Mecgar and the CZ stock mags that came with the gun failed to pass. This is not a case of mistaken mags. The are mag I received WTIH THE GUN di not work. A Mecgar mag that worked without a problem in his gun, the same one you talk about, failed in my gun to fit in the box. All of this leads me to beleive the rear sight, which for some reason is different than his, is too high.

  15. Which magazines are you using? CZ 18 round, MecGar 17 Round, MecGar 19 round, etc.

I tried several mags, as I have a variety. The CZ 18 round mags with springer base pads worked fine. The Mecgar 19 round failed (but worked fine in my friends shadow). Stock CZ 18 round magazine with base pad I got with the gun failed.

  16. Was it a wood or metal box? You probably should have demanded that the box be measure to know if it was in spec size. There is a tolerance for the size of the box also that even if the box was sized correctly you could get an allowance for the additional 1/8".

The box was polymer. If I am allowed another 1/* of an inch I easily would have passed. This is good to know.

  17. My Shadow sp01 and my daughters sp01 passed. We are using sp base pads. Both were very close, but they always are really close. I am pretty sure the box was polymer. I can look tomorrow and try to measure with pictures.

I have several mags with springer precision base pads. All of those passed. The mag I handed him was a stock mag, unmodified because I just grabbed the last one in my rig on instinct.

  18. And I don't understand the comment about the incentive for the match director not admitting the box is out is spec. It either is or isn't, to say it is when it isn't would be a lie.

I mean to say, if I challenge it, and he has a bad box, then he has to go back and fix all the other guns that got bumped, which I would imagine is a huge hassle for a 5 day long match where competitors are not local. I would think that is incentive to... ignore a bad box. Not saying one would, but that the situation would lead itself to incentivizing a lie even if the challenge was successful.
