124gr RN xtreme or berry's over 4.2gr of TG with a 1.135 OAL. Feed reliably and recoil isn't a factor on splits. Gonna work on some different OAL and see what happens.

What power factor do you get out of that?  I'm still shooting 115gr and am looking to move to 124gr.  Your formula is almost exactly what I was going to go with.

  2. I have an $8 reading lamp clamped to my press. Tons of light and no wiring on the press to hassle with.

But if you need LED strips by all means make your own.

Same here works great and is easy to remove and use for extra light when cleaning or smithing. Use incandescent bulbs so it doesn't get hot.

That makes 3. I have the same thing.

  3. Just got word today that our annual sales meeting is at the plant in Grand Rapids. Not looking forward to going that far north in the winter. And being gone all week for meetings. :angry2:

Believe it or not, some of us actually live here :) If you're interesting in meeting up with a fellow benos member, let me know. I don't know where in town you will be, but I'm sure we can find a place for lunch or something. Or, if you want to go shooting, we have several indoor ranges.

This Texas boy is not looking forward to going there in the winter. I'll be at the HME plant and they haven't sent us a schedule yet so I'm not sure about most of it. I'll send you a PM when I know more.

Sounds good. If it is the HME plant on Chicago Dr., it is literally 5 minutes from my office! Hopefully we'll get to meet up.

  4. Well guys...the unexpected happened. She came home from work tonight, said she should have never sprung that on me, she takes it all back, that it was unfair for her to ask me to give up one of my passions and that she is going to be completely supportive going forward....mind blown

That is fantastic! Looks like you have your immediate answer. BUT, I think the advice that was given, particularly the most recent advice from Nimitz in post #52 is still spot on. Just because the issue ended up not being pushed doesn't mean it won't at some point. It's a good idea to talk about everything and to talk about it now. And when you talk, make sure you let her know you truly appreciate what she said. She sounds like a wise woman, and you need to be a wise man by letting her know you appreciate that :)

    Signed,

    Happily married with 2 kids

  6. the real lesson here is: after shooting I take all my mags straight off my belt. UNLOAD them all, then reload them all and either put them ready in my bag, or back on the belt. even if I'm the last shooter on stage. in that case after shooting stage 1, take all mags off and dump in bag. when I get to stage 2 and hand in my score sheet I'll go and prepare my mags, check over gun etc while the first few shooters are running through;. given you were last on stage 1 you were second last on stage 2 so even with rotating RO duties etc you still need to make time to run through your routine. routine routine routine. don't deviate from it. it's when we get burned!

This is exactly what I do. I am an incredibly forgetful person. If I did not follow this procedure, I would likely have your experience on every stage.

  7. This one has been fun to read :) My thought, which doesn't add much, is that Steel Challenge does seem to be waning (I would not say "dying"), but steel shooting continues to be popular. This from a guy who shoots at the SC matches. Our local one worked in a "fun" stage last month to change it up a little bit and received very positive feedback on the concept.
