  1. That accuracy result is not acceptable to us in any form and were here to help.

Please send me an email so we can help troubleshoot. Often, the issue is not the barrel, but if it is, we'll make it right.

  2. Can a standard Front Sight Base work on the Gunner barrels, or is it gas block only? Also, any reliability (undergassed) issues on the rifle gas 18"?

The original GUNNER series was designed for a low-profile block. The latest batches (shipped to various dealers) has a 1.9" gas block journal to accommodate .625" FSBs.

  3. My boys have DR comps on their ARs. Seekins is another that is less concussive.

I have a Seekins on the 16" one my grand daughter shot and it seems to keep the concussion away from her. She went with me to a 3-gun match Saturday to watch and I had her shoot a few of the stages partially with her pistol and my rifle to get her started. She shot 8 rifle targets with hard cover, head shots, and no shoots with no problems. All of the shots were A zone. No flinching.

The other LW rifle I built for her has a Faxon pencil barrel with a Taccom triangular comp on it and it directs more of the blast back towards the shooter. She does not like that one as well and I will probably change it. Try to find a .625 OD comp that will work.

We have found the JBillet comp to be very effective in this regard.

  4. I just put an ALG on an ultralight build with a Faxon barrel. Installation with the magic wrench was easy peasy - and the way it mounts is solid. Really nice product.

    Pics, please!

Just an AR :) Vortex prism 1x, Faxon, TacCom... we'll see how it works out. Most of the matches here are 100 yards and in - and (shhhh....) it's mostly for the wife since she doesn't care for the weight of the 20" HBAR contour I've been running. I 'might' have to get it painted all pretty 'n stuff.

    Thanks!

  5. Nathan is a class act. If I were in the market for a barrel, Faxon would be one of a small # I would look at. Wish they made a 16" with intermediate gas...

I am flattered beyond measure. I just hope I can keep this up as the company grows!

A BCM upper will cure that problem, they are all I use now.

The barrel hole is purposely made slightly undersize. The spigot is heated to around 250 or 300 degrees (I use a heat gun) and the barrel will slide in. After cooling there will be a tight fit with no play, no messy compounds and no shims.

    I also use Faxon barrels.

    Great suggestion!

  6. Purchased a Faxon gunner barrel. I really like the barrel, and how it handles in the gun. I am having a problem with a wandering zero. I am using a seekins triangular handguard. I am also using an older m&p upper. The barrel extension did not feel super tight sliding into the upper. Could shimming the barrel fix my problem? The barrel seems to shoot well, but the groups wander. The picture is a group I shot prone with a block of wood as a brace under the forearm at 200 yards. Problem is it is not where I was aiming! Does anyone have experience with this problem?

    Thanks

It sounds like to us that its an issue with the interface of the barrel to receiver to extension. There are a couple things that may be the issue.

What I can comment on is our extensions. We test each one using hardened steel gauges to ensure perpendicularity on the front and rear of the flange. Only barrels that pass are allowed to make it to the field. While this does not absolve us, my reasonable assumption is the issue is outside the barrel.

    1. We understand that the upper previously had another barrel installed on it. The receiver and barrels (especially if there was high round rounds) can "mate" to one another through repeated compression (especially on the aluminum side). We would encourage you to look at the receiver and place on a very flat surface. See if it is anything but perfectly straight up and down or if there are light gaps. That would indicate an out of spec upper.

*On a side note, I am inclined to lean towards this as when you increased compression on the barrel, it tightened up.

    2. Likewise, the barrel nut can also have the same issue but it is very difficult to test. Considering its material (either steel or titanium), it is unlikely it is an issue if your previously barrel worked well.

Now, if the issue does turn out to be the barrel, I will gladly replace it.

  7. I'm seriously considering building a 300 BO for shooting suppressed. Would probably be 90% sub-sonic but will retain the ability to shoot supersonic as well. I will not be reloading and would most likely shoot Freedom Munitions ammo. I have a host upper I would cannibalize for the build.

All I need to swap out on a .223 upper is the barrel, correct? I can continue to use my JP LMOS BCG with JP Bolt, correct? I would probably go with a SLR or SYRAC adjustable gas block.

I don't want to wait on another stamp, so I'm thinking a Faxon or Odinworks 16" barrel with carbine gas. Any other suggestions on barrel choices or other build considerations?

Nope. Think you are good! ;)

  8. Take a look at the Faxon pencil barrel a very nice looking barrel.

    I have 2 16" 416R versions and couldn't be happier.

    Great customer service too.

We're honored to hear the compliment.

Our "light" barrels are finally nearing assembly. Available in 14.5", 18" and 20" to start.

Gov't profile behind the gas block, .625" gas block, and pencil profile from there forward.

I personally cant wait for them to be done along with our 18" FLAME barrels. Been shooting our 16" so far this season and have been looking for the extra velocity.

  9. Thanks, found this one from Faxon Firearms: http://www.faxonfirearms.com/p/98/18-556-ar-15-4150-black-qpq-govtsocom-rifle-gas

18", rifle gas, 1.95 lbs/ 885 grams. Look really cheap at MSRP $179, but how is the quality?

ISO:9008 Certified, AS:9100 pending, TS Certified.

He're our guarantee: if you have an issue, we fix it or make it right.

    Its that simple.

Forgot to add our "light" barrels are nearing final assembly. Its gov't behind the gas block, .625" gas block, and pencil from there forward. I estimate about 1.75 lbs with our normal accuracy.

  10. I just built a 16" mid gas, 1-8 twist, Faxon pencil barrel lightweight with a Taccom light buffer, Taccom comp, RCA Adjustable gas key, light carbine spring, Mission 1st Tactical stock, and PM 1-6 that weighs about 7lbs. Very fast, light, flat, soft, and shoots extremely accurate for hoser matches. Might be another way to go without pinning or welding. I have shot it out to 450 yards with excellent results.

    gerritm

We have a 14.5" pencil coming shortly. ETA 2-3 weeks. Trying to keep them under a pound.

  11. You also cant have a rifle gas system on a 14.5 so i am not sure where you noticed this barrel for sale; you can do carbine or mid on a 14.5. I don't see this as an issue but your going to spend big money on that barrel. I think that it will far exceed your needs. If it was me, i would opt for a less expensive and more durable barrel.

If you are looking on the Obermyer page and barrel prices, your going to pay much more then that listed price for a barrel to have it chambered etc.

I would look at a lightweight CHF 16 with midlength or rifle gas. Weight gain over a 14.5 is marginal and you can change comps around if you don't like it.

I would look at Faxon, Voodoo, or Ranier for a barrel. There are lots and lots of choices.

    Thanks for thinking of us!

  12. I just built a new upper using a faxon 18 rifle length gas barrel and a nordic tactical comp. My previous experience is with a 16 inch carbine barrel with the same nordic tactical comp. with the old carbine upper it was so violent that tracking the sights was difficult, the comp worked and softened and flattened the gun but was hard to tell exactly what the sights were doing. With the new rifle length upper it is so much smoother that I can easily track the sights. Now when shooting the gun the sights track straight to the right, no up or down movement.

So on this comp how would you stop the right movement. Would you open up the right 45 degree port or would you drill a new hole at 90 degrees . Opening the 45 port seems like it would work but may cause the gun to dip slightly too.

Here is a picture of the comp.

Thanks for choosing us! Look forward to a range report.

  13. I would give the Faxon 16 inch barrel a look if I was building an upper. We have several in the shop and they look very well made. Other shooter have posted good results with there barrels.

    Thank you for the recommendation!

We choose 1/8 twist and have found it ideal for the mentioned applications. Robar Arms has been posting targets with their firearms. We think you will like the results.

Here's our guarantee: You don't like it, we fix it or make it right.

  14. I bought a case of this and it ran and had no issues out of my 18" Nordic barrel with standard gas block.

I used it to zero my lightweight 16" Faxon barrel with the RCA gas key on a 70 degree day and set the key for that with a 1/2 turn out extra. Cycled the gun and was accurate. Went to do some longer range shooting the next day and the temp had dropped into the mid 40's and rainy. I had several issues with it being consistent. About 1 or 2 out of every mag would not eject completely or cycle the gun. I am going to retest again in warmer weather, but I have read some reviews on this ammo and they have said it has some consistency issues.

    gerritm

We can assure you it is not the barrel. We pulled the certs from the recent batches of pencils and the steel was appropriately treated and stress-relieved.

  15. Just finished the lightweight build. Final weight, just over 7lbs. My normal Seekins build with Nordic 18" barrel, Vltor stock, Vortex Razor HD scope weighs 10.2lbs.

    NIB coated upper: Stock lower.

    CMC trigger:

Faxon 16" pencil barrel, 1-8 twist

    Vltor .625 gas block

    Taccom .625 comp

    Taccom light carbine buffer/spring

Stock weight BCG with RCA adjustable key

    Sampsom Evo Handguard

    Battlelink minimalist stock

Primary Arms 1x6 scope and mount

Weather was cold/rainy, for SE Texas-- mid 40's. 55gr Federal XM193, Independence XM193, Zeroed at 50 yards. Group was touching. Ran it from 120 to 450 yards. Hit everything in between. Very accurate with no problems. I did not get a chance to do much fast/double tap shooting, yet. So far it seems to be fast and fairly flat.

Interesting problem with the Independence ammo. Set the RCA gas adjustment to this ammo. Ran the Federal 100%, ran my 69gr reloads 100%, but had several FTE, FTF's with this ammo. Very inconsistent. Not sure if it was the cold. Didn't cycle completely.

    gerritm

That's exactly the performance we would expect for accuracy.

The Independence is not surprising either. I had issues with a spattering of the ammo in an ARAK awhile back. It decided to crop up during a 3-gun championship match.

    Never trusting it again...

  16. Would that be a good idea for a thin barrel? Flexing might be an issue?

That is what I was thinking it might be too heavy. Need light and small. I have a Nordic Tact comp on another lightweight rifle, but it is not a pencil barrel. But it may work.

    I will contact Tim. Thanks.

    gerritm

MAG Tactical has a good come that they use on their pencil barrels. IV8888 has had some good things to say about the system.
