Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. No it was purchased from a local Dillon retailer. Trimmer has never been used, went to thread it on yesterday and ran into this issue. But the picture above is in fact a 1500 with the longer shaft, correct?
  2. Just got off the phone with Dillon and they seemed to be as confused as I am. They are just having me send it in to see what the deal is but I'm pretty sure they're just going to swap the cutter shafts.
  3. Strange yeah the shank looks much longer than it should be but the motor is clearly labeled RT1500 and part number 61500 so everything looks right except the cutter shank. And even the looks its obviously a 1500 motor and not a 1200 (no silver on the body, much bigger).
  4. Looking at the instructions it looks like the shaft on the trimmer is longer than depicted. I'd say twice as long. Thoughts?
  5. Got a new RT1500 from the wife as well as a 223 trim die so I can get into some more efficient trimming of cases. Well I have the die all set up but when I go to thread the cutter on to the die the cutter shaft is too long for the die itself and it bottoms out on the inside of the trimmer die before the body even gets to the threads. Am I missing something with this? Is there an adjustment for how far the shaft sticks out of the motor? All parts are Dillon (toolhead is normal thickness, Dillon trim die and Dillon motor) Edited to upload photo
  6. I placed an order this afternoon only to find out my wife already purchased most of the things on the order for my birthday so now I'll have duplicates. How would I go about cancelling an order to avoid my credit card being authorized to try to prevent the 10% restocking fee?

  8. That sounds fantastic, but based on my quantity (I dont even own a 5 gal bucket worth of 223 brass) of around 300 rounds/month, would you say the extra cost of not having to handle brass is worth it? I understand that when you look at a quantity in the thousands the time difference is probably significant. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of advantage I'd see with my small volume.
  9. Thats what I figured, and even with slight burrs I can tumble after to remove those and the lube. So really at this point its down to the cost of a $450 trim setup (just for 300BLK, add another trim die for 223 so $490 total) or a Trim-It for around $180 set up for both 300 and 223. Decisions...
  10. I recently got my XL650 set up to reload 10mm, and I couldn't be happier with how it works. But I initially purchased the 650 to reload higher volume rifle brass like 223 Rem and 300 BLK. I will be shooting around 500-1000 rounds per month TOTAL (all calibers) so maybe 300 of either 223 or 300 in a month. Yesterday I purchased a Trim-It II set up for both calibers with the intent on using a jig to cut down the 223 brass, size it on the first toolhead and then trim with the Trim-It II. The trimmer is a 3 way so no chamfur/deburr needed after, although cut brass will certainly get a quick hit with my hand chamfur/deburr tool prior to going into the sizer. Browsing youtube last night I saw a video of the RT1500 trimming 223 brass straight to 300blk size and not skipping a beat. That looks so amazing I cancelled my order for the Trim-It. My question is: Is it worth it? I also reload 30-30, 30-06, and 308 but not at the volume of 223 or 300 (maybe doing more 308 if I get a semi-auto). Based on this, would I be better suited to get the RT1500 or the Trim-It? If I got the RT1500 I would likely continue to trim the 30-06 and 30-30 brass on a rotary hand trimmer since the volume is so much lower.
  11. Took everyone's advice and got the 650 up and running loading 10mm. The press works very well for the first batch I churned out and loads quite quickly. Not sure how much faster I was with it vs my SDB, basically however long it takes me to place a piece of brass on the press x100 for the run I did. Next I'll probably set up for some sort of rifle round (either 223 or 300blk) and see how much of a difference that makes.
  12. So here is the other problem I'm running into and I completely forgot about this issue. The end of the handle at the top of the ram's stroke finished directly underneath one of the mounting bolts. Due to the thickness of my bench the bolt is what is actually interfering. I can drill the 1 1/2" hole for a relief for the handle but then the bolt would have to be recessed into that even further. Has anyone had this issue with a thicker front edge of a bench?
  13. Decided to give the 650 a swing. Going to order everything to load 10mm on it since I already have dies for that. Went and got thicker ply for the bench top and then going to bevel the front bottom board and relief cut it with a forstner bit. I'll keep the SDB for good and devise some quick swap system to trade it out with a single stage for low-quantity rifle reloading. I'll post updates as I go
  14. that makes complete sense. I'll give that a shot and see if I can make it work. Found a good bit of it when I was back up in NC. They had both W231 and HP38 on the shelves. I picked up 3 of each. I appreciate the advice! I don't really know what I'm looking to hear, so that was really helpful. I have to ask why the 550 over the 650 at this point, however. I do not have any of the standard size dies for the pistol calibers except 40/10mm so the only difference in expense would be the caliber conversion kits, is this correct? I guess that and the case feeder wheels. Is the swap time between calibers on the 550 much easier than the 650 to make it worth selling this and investing in a 550? And that putting my ultimate setup with just the 550 and a single stage for small batch stuff that I cant justify the caliber conversion due to quantity (30-30, 30-06, etc)?
