  1. My big problem trying to be a crossover IDPA shooter is that if I'm not way down in the order, I will always drop a loaded mag leaving a position where I've engaged 3-4 targets.  Would be cool to not get penalized for that. Not going to happen, but would be nice!

  2. if you are studly, you can drive the pin out with a punch from one side, then feed the FTP in from the other side as you withdraw the punch, of course that's given you aren't replacing the TRS which most of the time you should.

Well.  My USPSA indoctrination is complete.  I went back and shot the IDPA match I used to help MD last night. I just couldn't get back on board with the IDPA rule set once getting used to the USPSA rules and approach to stage planning.  I recognize the rules are the same to everybody, but I have a hard time going from "what is the most efficient way to engage this position and get to the next position" to "I have to shoot the targets in this prescribed order and only begin doing this thing once this thing is done".  I know lots of dudes who enjoy it and shoot both, but as I discovered last night, i don't think I'm one of those dudes.  I hereby commit to be an ambassador of shooting sports who won't diminish other dude's preferred sport.

Your method is subjective (handheld). An objective method is required for true comparison. This means shooting from a mechanical device, such as a Ransom Rest, and making measurements of gun (rocker arm) movement.

I'm more interested in determining if it's an exploitable advantage.  If I can't realize the benefit on the clock, then is it really a benefit at all other than bragging rights?

  5. Does frame weight really affect recoil control?  I posted this video testing it with my different production guns to see.  Maybe results are different with a 40/38sc.  What am I missing here?  It doesn't seem to, IMO.  What are other ways to test it?

Testing the difference between a CZ 75B vs. CZ SP01 Shadow Custom vs. CZ AccuShadow

No, not necessarily.  This is all very confusing if you ask me.  Mine is a CZC model #91735 from 2016.  I think that the custom fit match barrel was an option that increased the price $150 or so.  I was thinking that this was what made it a "CZC SP-01 Accushadow Black", but I could be wrong.  the only definite way I could discern between models was to use the model number.   The barrel is stainless and is a tad longer than stock, so it protrudes from the accu bushing about a 1/4" or maybe a bit more.  It looks about the same length as the Australian barrels I used to see.  Supposedly, and I think I read this on enos forums, the czc match barrels had saami spec chambers instead of nato spec like the stock barrels.  I notice more forgiveness over my stock shadow, but it is still shorter than I would like.  I am pretty nervous to have it reamed, because I shoot this one a LOT better than my other Shadow and that Shadow had a full CGW trigger parts workover, so it definitely isn't the trigger.

Oh good grief, they need an index.

I recently got a CZ Accushadow Black and it's CZ Custom match barrel chamber/throat is longer, but I can still only load out to about 1.130 with the CMJs.  I like the pistol enough that I may just load everything shorter, but I would really love to have a little more room.  I feel like I had heard/read mixed results from reaming the barrel

I have an Accu that left CZC in 2015 and it has a standard barrel that was fit to the bushing, are the new ones fit with all new barrels?

  8. I would be curious to know how big a market the US is for CZUB, sure seems like we're the red headed step child.  AUS and CAN all have their Shadow 2s and are off to the races.

  9. Back in the day... Int the beginning, I practiced mag changes a LOT. Robbie and I would stand next to each other with pistols aimed at the wall, and his brother would say "go." Racing against each other to get the mag changed and the pistol back to the index position was good stuff. And even though after about a couple years of religious mag change practice - I could probably change mags about as fast as I ever could - I never stopped regularly practicing mag changes for the 20 years I competed.

It's just a grind, you make progress in an area to see the extent of the progress yet to make

Doing some testing of my new load and figured I'd give it a chance to try my hand at discerning a difference in practical performance of my different CZ 75 platform guns.  SP01 Accu, SP01 Shadow Custom, 75B (springs & pin), 75 Compact (springs & pin).  The drill is to send a target out to 10 yards take one site picture, run the trigger twice.

My practice gun (SP01SC) has a worn out RS - approx 7k rds since last change.  My Accu Shadow has a pretty fresh RS - approx 1k rds.  Both the compact and the 75B is about halfway through their spec life cycle - which is to say OEM spring weight.

The drill is simple.  Send a USPSA metric target out to 10 yards, take one sight picture and run the trigger twice as fast as I can.  I repeated this drill 24 times with each gun.  I kept a shot timer on to observe the split times for comparison sake.  With a good grip you should realize 2A's 80%+ of the time.  The point of the drill is to see just how consistently the gun comes back to POA on a big easy target.  I taped a scaled "A" zone on to the IDPA targets I had. I didn't aim hard at the paster in the center of the A zone, just kind of waved the gun up in the A zone, confirmed a red dot in the rear notch and let 'er rip, similar to how I'd shoot a match.  I probably need to index a little bit higher on the A zones - so that's good info for practice.  In matches I find myself "over aiming" at targets at 10 yards when really i can just rip the trigger twice and have a very high probability of 2A's if my initial hold was where it needed to be. The other "bonus" bit of the drill was to watch the front sight bob up and down and attempt to call shots.  i didn't get much done in that regard on this, LOL.

The results were about as you would imagine.  in the order I shot them.

    SP01SC.jpg

SP01 Shadow Custom - Dropped 4 shots outside

    SP01Accu.jpg

AccuShadow - 8 Shots out (eigth is low  just outside the A, you can't see from this perspective).  I think if I had shot the lighter sprung SP01 second the results would have been different, favoring the Accu.

    75B.jpg

    75B - full size 5/48 dropped.

    75C.jpg

    75 Compact - 7/48 dropped.

So there you have it.  The SP01 frame, in my hands, doesn't do anything for me on the gun coming back to zero, as evidenced by shooting the 75B about the same.  The ONE difference that is arguably appreciable is the fact my split times on the B guns were .23-.24 running the trigger as fast as I can.  versus .21-.22 on the Shadows.  That's it.  Probably not going to lose you a stage.

I'll make a video compiling the video I took of the 4 guns in recoil and post it as a follow up.

  11. Yeah comparing the two videos i can see I am moving a lot of unnecessary stuff.  But more aggression is how I roll (you actually struck a chord.  My default position of trying to push speed is to do it more aggressively, which is another way of saying adding tension which is counter intuitive to speed.

Draw is another one I need to work on I know I waste movement on that as well.

It's good info, humbling, but good.

  12. Jumping back a few frames... I have a G19 & a 43 both gen 4's. Any experience with these or Glocks over all regarding RN or FN preferences and why? I like the 147 gr and I've loaded mostly RN due to cost but also have loaded Rainier which is FN. Not sure I could tell a difference? Could there be more of a difference between a FN & RN in a coated bullet?

Why not try sample packs from those companies you are considering? Reduce whatever charge you have been using with plated by 10% and you should be close

  13. I've been hitting reloads hard for quite a while.  I dry fire pretty much every day for a half hour. I will devote a couple weeks every couiple months to just reloads.  My reloads aren't the best.  My 4 Aces time at 10 yards is like 3.9 and my typical reload is 1.5-1.7 shot to shot.  I do burkett loads.  i've played with how I present the mag well, i think i've figured out how to do that to most consistently insert the mag, but I still just am not there on speed.  How long does it take to burn it in?

I'm a (fairly rapidly) improving 67% shooter.  With the way I've been shooting it'll be a matter of time until I hit A class (shot 72.22% of Sal Luna at GA State)I know my reload is going to be something holding me back from getting through A class.

How long did it take you?  What drills did you find most helpful in dryfire/live fire?

  14. As mentioned, the FPRP is worth inspecting, eventually as the Factory pin wares out it can cause issues. CGW offers an improved replacement pin. I would be keeping an eye on the primers of your fired cases as well.

This is the CGW FP and FPRP that I am having this issue with. Not excessive dry fire either and almost always with an O ring

    Thanks for the tip's.

I have a list of the minimum must do enhancements that I'm going to do, once I have one.

Thankfully, Most of these enhancements are cheap and easy to do.

The shoot a ton instead of polishing method is right up my ally.

Another "nice to have" Item is the Cajun Gun Works floating trigger pin.  If you shoot a ton, you'll break trigger return springs.  The stock pin takes a beating to get out, the floating trigger pin you can punch out usually without a hammer, just a punch.

  17. So my 75C, when I initially installed the Cajun SRS 2 would not let a pencil leave the barrel.  Fast forward approx 500 rounds and about a year later and now I can throw pencils a few feet clear of the barrel - almost like my shadows.  Is this normal?  All I can think of is the act of firing the B gun has caused the Cajun  FPRP to warp somewhat to allow more forward movement.

    Anyone else experience this?

  18. I also see the finer granulars in my Dillion powder measure but my loads chrono very consistent.

I've shot just st 1000 rounds with this powder and I must say it's the cleanest burning powder I've ever used. Especially for 9mm minor.

I am amazed how clean it shoots. It's like the perfect powder for coated lead in 9mm minor
