  1. Well, I finally got to shot a match this weekend. Still had a few inches of snow on the ground, but it was sunny and warm. Yahoo!! I put the stock spring back in and no problems. I didn't notice any difference in trigger pull.....
  2. Between the snow, ice, sub-zero weather ( puttin' my plow truck in the ditch lol ) lately, I haven't had a chance to shoot much. Our monthly steel challenge for tomorrow has already been cancelled....
  3. Thermo... Yea, I didn't see much difference between the springs as far as pull weight goes. High lord... No apex sear. I'm basically a cheapskate, so I just bought the parts mentioned and smoothed out the rest of the stuff. Sarge.. It's possible I may have had a high primer or two but I don't think I had that many. I've never had a problem with this gun before. About 1200 rounds prior to last weekend. I'll pass on the Glock.. They are kinda' fugly to me. lol Steathly.. I just happen to have some lighter recoil springs on the way here. I was messing with light loads a couple of weeks ago and I got to the point where they wouldn't cycle, hence ordering some springs. When I get them, I'll try it with both of the lighter springs and see what happens. There is a gun show this weekend close to me and I;m gonna see about tradin' my XDM 40 for an M&P 40.....
  4. I shot around 200 rounds this weekend with a newly installed reduced power striker spring, apex competition spring kit and apex poly trigger (9mm Pro). In the first 100 rounds or so, I had 4-5 light strikes and then maybe 1-2 the second 100 rounds. I had a mixture of CCI and S&B primers in my reloads. It seems like the CCI had more trouble then the S&B, but I know for sure that 2 of them were S&B. I tried reshooting a few of them and most of them went bang on the second try. My main goal in trying the spring was to lower the trigger pull and after reinstalling the factory I found the difference between the two springs was only around 4 ounces..... My average 5 pull weight with the new parts is 4.1 oz (6.5 oz before the work was done) and 4.5 oz with the original striker spring.
  5. Lot's of good information here, Thanks! Several folks have mentioned Clays. I have never used it nor have I seen it in any of the places I buy stuff from. So, any loads with that are out of the question. I went to the local LGS to get some 115's and you guessed it, "we just sold the last box".... maybe next week.
  6. If I remember correctly, my 115 load was about 4-4.3 ish... I haven't tried a light powder charge with that bullet yet. I'll try and get some this week. What difference do you see between the light vs. heavy bullet with the same powder charge?
  7. I'm just playing with 147's cause I have on bunch on-hand right now.... The load at 3.0 is very accurate, but, the gun "feels" better at 3.2 or 3.3. Does that make sense? Thermo mentioned that I shouldn't take the recoil spring below 15lbs. Any specific reason for that? Is it hard on the slide/frame or something like that?
  8. I've been messin' with different loads for Steel Challenge. I'm was wondering how low a powder charge you can use with a 147 plated bullet. My best load for POA and POI is 3.0 grs. at 1.15 oal. I have tried 2.7, and the spend casings just barely clear the gun (M&P 4.25). If I lower the recoil spring weight, will it cycle better, or is that just to low a charge?
  9. The only rifle I've been reloading for was a 22-250 and I traded it for an AR. The only rifle powder I have on hand is H-380. I haven't seen any published loads for this powder in new books, but, i've heard it is listed in older manuals. Is anyone using this powder ?
  10. Just shot my second Steel match with my M&P 22. Not one hiccup in either match. I ran a 22/45 last year and it had it share of problems. I went the El cheapo route, and used a Mako mount, a Bushnell fastfire, an 1/2X28 thread adapter and a clocked comp. All together less then $200. I've never shot open class before and was a little nervous about using a dot... This is the first one i've used on a pistol. One thing I like about the Mako mount is the sights are still available to use. I still use the regular sights on smoke and hope....
