  1. Loaded a ton of bullets with a Lee progressive... had my share of heartaches and broken parts, but was what I could afford back then. Went to a Dillon 550 and wished I did it years earlier. Have had no issues using my Lee dies, but I only load pistol. Great product and well made !

BS.  Caspian slides are fine.  I've got two with 70,000+ rounds of Major Open loads on each.

Is this a single-stack Open gun?

Yes, ... NYS. This will be my first venture into open. If I get to the point where I go to out of state matches, it will be a good excuse for a new gun..

  3. Putting together my first 1911 open build. So far, was thinking, a Caspian / Foster frame, Clark barrel and comp with a Heavy armor division slide. I’m going 38 super as I already reload same and have brass, mags, leather ect. I have not been able to find much info on the slide. Is anyone familiar or had any experience ? It is at a lower price point which kind of worry’s me, but the few reviews I’ve found seem good. Most reviews are on their Glock slides and folks seem happy with the quality.

Suggestions or opinions on any of the above ?

  4. Long time lurker here.. I’m currently shooting CO with my 1911 in 38 Super. I’m ready to move to open and, of course, on a budget. My thoughts were to build up what I have. Single stack is not a problem for me as I live in NY, and I’m guessing if I get to the point of shooting out of state matches, I’d prob move into a new gun. My other option is to find an old single stack 1911 open gun, but I worry about them being beat or having issues.. ..thoughts and opinions ?

  5. I've been using Wilson Combat 38Super 10 rd mags. They feed flawlessly but after a ton of rounds, they very seldom lock back after the last round. I replaced the Wilson spring and plastic follower with Tripp Research spring and metal follower and they are back to like new... $8.95 apiece was a lot cheaper than new mags..

  6. I got a Lee progressive many years ago and it has produced a lot of bullets along with a lot of aggravation. It was all I could afford and without it I never would have been able to shoot as much as I do. That being said, as soon as I can afford it, Ill be moving up to a Dillon.

  7. I didn't want to hijack the other thread, just a similar question..

I want to load 38 super with 145gr rn lead with Power Pistol but I cant find any data. I want to use this combo as I have all those components on hand. I will be using these to get some trigger time, not for any competition. Any weight suggestions for powder ?

  8. I shipped a 300 dollor case with a glass door via UPS. On Christmas eve, someone put a set of forks off a lift truck through the box. UPS deemed it only worth 100 dollors and thats all they payed. A lot of phone calls and fighting got me nowhere but aggrivated !

  9. How about whatever fits your hand the best?

A Glock fits me better than a 1911.

Anything with bullets fits my hand..lol

For now, Im shooting my 38 super in a single stack class to get the feel for it again. My glock is the same as my duty gun, and is very comfortable. I think when the time comes, it may get some toys...Thanks all for your advise !

  10. I bought the Wilson barrel to replace the damaged barrel that was in the gun when I bought it a few years back. The previous owner shot a bunch of lead through the stock barrel and damaged it. Picked it up for a song and put in a new barrel. Thanks for all the advice..points well taken...

  11. I probably should've stated in the first post that I already have the guns listed...sorry

Thanks all...no matter what I decide, Ill be starting shooting this month. My club does a single stack / stock thing. I think Ill shoot the 38 super there and start to save my pennies to build the glock. Id love to buy a gun thats used and finished, but $$$$...

  12. Ive been a lurker around here for some time now, so thought Id jump in. I shot in a league 7 or 8 years ago with a stock 1911 38 super. Im now finally in a position to get back into the sport, but I know how things change. My question is...Im ready to start building a gun. It'll be a little at a time as money permits and I have three choices of which to invest my money in..

    1. Glock 22 40cal with a fitted Wilson Combat barrel

    2. 1911 in 38 super (trigger job and magwell)

    3. 1911 45 cal (stock) remington...

    Opinions..?

  13. I shipped an item I sold on e-bay a few weeks before Christmas. The purchaser got a steal on it (payed $130., it was worth at least $500. replacement was $850.) I insured it for $300 and it was returned to the shipper 48 hours after it left completely destroyed. An appraiser was sent down to look at it. I produced documentation on the replacement valu, but they would not pay off till I produced an invoice. They only payed the $130. and would not pay any other fees that it cost me. Ill never be talked into the insurance thing again and Ill probably only use UPS as a last resort !

  14. First, Id like to say thanks to everyone on the tips. I'm just starting shooting in IPSC after a 5 year break and theres a lot of ideas Ill be trying. My question is, does anyone know of any video clips on the internet showing some "classic" reloads ? Theres one going around the e-mail now that shows a revolver reload and fast shooting ( I think it was from the discovery channel). The last video I saw was the one spoke of here..Shooter Ready !
