  1. I shoot Rev almost every match (625).

While I like the idea of letting an 8 shot in, I think they should just put it with current rules, let them load 8 but only shoot 6 before a reload. This however would require a reload with retention each time they reloaded.

    Yet another circular firing squad.

If you want to talk about an obvious need for a rule change (slight hijack of thread) let CDP be 40 cal if it makes PF.

  2. I agree the 625 PF is not an issue if you reload. If you have to shoot factory, the 38 recoil is a big advantage.

You can reload just as fast with speed loaders as moon clips. However a bad moon clip reload is just bothersome. A bad speed loader reload can be very bad.

I have a 686SSR and 625PC. I can shoot the 686 slightly quicker but shoot the 625 almost exclusively in IDPA for the reload insurance, ease of retrieving my brass, and since I use moon clips in USPSA.

  3. This is year of the Revolver for me. I have been shooting a 625 in IDPA and 627 in USPSA with only two exceptions this year (5 or 6 local matches a month). Usually I just shoot the 625 in the winter and go to single stack for USPSA and IDPA in the spring, summer, and fall.

The rule change for the 8 shot actually got me to go Revo in USPSA. Seems that puts me in the minority but I hated the standing reloads I frequently had to make with a 6 shot.

  4. Year of the Revolver for me. I normally shoot my 625 in the winter but this year it is all I am shooting in IDPA and I bought a 627 and gear just for USPSA.

It is fun and some of the looks I get when I place above some other people are priceless. Get the trigger(s) down to 7-8 pounds and smoothe. You can go plenty fast from there.

Now if I could just find a cowboy hat that had holes for my muffs...

  5. My Trojan 40 loaded to minor (about 134) is a great ESP gun. It has a Dawson mag well, good sights, a good trigger, and my minor 200 grain 40 load feels lighter than my 124 9mm load (130).

I have been tempted to buy a SP01 and do some Cajun magic to it but just cannot see how it is better than my 9mm 1911 or 40 cal Trojan.

  6. I hate to say it this way but "settling for second place" keeps me from burning out.

I shoot a small match every week, a larger club match 2 or 3 times per month, and 3 or 4 major matches each year. I never care if I win or not. I have expectations to finish at a certain place and be beaten by certain shooters. As long as I do that well or better, I am happy and have fun at matches. If I practiced a lot and made it my goal to win everything, I am sure I would burn out in a year or less.

  7. I just received my Blade Tech Revolution holster for my M&P Pro and the holster has a pretty drastic cant into my body at the top above my belt. Is this normal?

Mine are not the Revolution model but none of them do that. Is your belt above your hips? Does your body overflow your belt in that area? ;-)

  8. 357 Mag (they can shoot all the 38 Special in it they desire)

    3"-5" barrel

    all steel frame

Any new or used Smith and Wesson double action

Ruger double action would be a close second

If they just won't spend the money, there are still a lot of S&W mod 10 used police guns out there. While I would prefer the option for 357 mag, 38 Special +P would get the job done.

They need to get some speed loaders and learn how to use them for whatever revolver they settle on.

  9. snip... it is a sport or game ... It is not training in any way shape or form. ...snip

Pretty sure those two little gems are the secret to having fun shooting IDPA. I will say the other items are valid points as well but I really see these two insights as the key.

  10. I shoot IDPA to compete, burn powder, have fun giving grief to my friends, and to improve my skills.

I really do not understand the issues people have with IDPA. Yes some of the rules are burdensome to maybe stupid but who cares? It is just a game. I only shoot 2 or 3 big matches a year but I shoot 5 local matches each month. Maybe the rules would matter more to me if I shot more major matches and spent more money, time and effort to travel. As it is, IDPA is very economical with lower round count matches and limited equipment required to be competitive.

  11. You might also want to look for steel matches nearby. Usually there is no movement or very little and you can have a ball running revolvers. There is also no reloading on the clock so all the brass gets dumped in your bag with no bending over.

Keep up the PT at 110%. I have witnessed 5 knee replacements and 2 hips on friends and family. Their effort in PT made all the difference.

  12. Really depends on the gun for me.

My 627 really likes the coated BBI over the plated Xtreme.

My 9mm 1911 shoots coated, plated and jacketed pretty much the same

My 625 hates plated and does not like some jacketed. It likes coated, normal lead, and Zero.

  13. I resize on a rock chucker after they are cleaned then firmly seat primers with a RCBS hand priming tool. I then store the cases for future loading. When I load them later on the Hornady, position one is empty. I do this for all pistol cases.

I find the Hornady just seats to flush instead of slightly beyond flush. When I called them about it, I was told it is supposed to seat primers flush???

  14. I have to agree a 627, 929, or R8 would likely make it more fun (unless you really like reloading while standing still). Most stages are designed to allow 8 shots from any position for SS shooters.

Once you get the gun you can then go down the road to 38 Short Colt and Hearthco or TK moon clips.

  15. TK and Hearthco moons are made for specific brass so performance will vary based on what brass you are using.

Since you say loading speed is not an issue and you found the Ranch clips good enough, I would just go with the Ranch clips. They will function fine until they don't and then you can just buy some more at that point plus they will load and unload with no tools. That and the price should be a plus.
