Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for the responses. Definitely seems like a nono to me. I just finished off my can of tightgroup, which worked great, but was hoping for something cleaner.
  2. Shooting 180 grain Berry's, by the way. Also, I was trying to get away with using the same powder for major and minor since it's cheaper to buy bulk.
  3. I bought some Clay's (regular) for my Glock 35. The only reloading manual in the store was the Sierra manual. It had max load at 5.0 gr @ 1000fps. So I thought I was good to go. The Hodgdon manual I have home lists a max load of 3.5 gr at less than 900 fps. I want to be able to make major pf, but don't know if it's safe to go that high. Any one here use Clay's at about 4.5 gr to get about 950 fps? Should I just use the Clay's for minor and get Universal Clay's for major? I wanted a cleaner powder than the Tightgroup I was using. I didn't see Clay's listed in the Maas load list.
  4. Lots of good advice. I've been wanting the Burkett videos, but I'm wanting to allocate my money wisely so I'm looking for the best starting point. There are a couple of "A" class shooters around and I think I could get them to do some one on one training. My weaknesses seem to be target acquisition/ decision making and getting the front sight lined up quickly and calling the shot and shooting a make up or moving on. I look for the hole before reengaging. I do okay moving forward or side to side, but suck going backwards. Reloads could use a bit of work too. I take my eyes off target to reload then have to find my target again before going bang. Lots of excess movement around barricades wasting time. Wow, when I list them all like that, I suck. No wonder I'm a struggling "C". I'll be at the range.
  5. I'm in SE VA so I have Blackwater and Tactical Shooting Acadamy around here. I know some people that have been to both and they recommend TSA. I have shot with Todd Jarret, John Benton and Daniel Horner, and they have given me pointers that helped out a bit, but I think several hours of intesive training would help. Thanks, I think I'll be signing up for a class once I get my work schedule figured out. Brian
  6. I've shot in 3 USPSA matches and I generally end up at about 54% which I guess is "C" class. I would like to take a training class but that's alot of money. Would I be better off buying a couple cases of ammo and practicing on my own, working the basics. Or should I just take a 3-5 day couse. Which is going to help the most? I've been shooting for about 10 years, the last 4 pretty regularly, at least once per week. I really enjoy IPSC, but I think I'll get discouraged and stop going if I don't get better.
  7. I found some 165 grain plated bullets and loaded some up. The manual I looked at in the store had a max of 5.7 gr of tightgroup. I loaded 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, an 5.5 I think that the only one that might be close to major is the 5.5 but I'll try the others out for minor. I don't recall what the velocity was for the 5.7 and my manuals don't even list tightgroup for 165 gr. Is there an online resource for this data?
  8. Thanks, Sounds like good advice to me. I appreciate your help. Brian
  9. Hi, I'm new on this board. Seems like I've been spending too much time learning from the vast knowlege on this board and not enough time talking. Anyway. I recently purchased a Glock 35 for Limited USPSA (currently shoot IDPA but switching, I want to focus on shooting, not being "tactikewl" ) usage and I'm trying to develop a load for it. I wanted to use 180 grain bullets but the store I shop at was out, so I got some 190 grain Sierra Tournament Masters. I got a can of tightgroup, which seems to work well for most folks, but couldn't find load data for 190s. I estimated that 4.2gr should be my max load by spliting the difference between the 180gr data and 200. I figure that a good starting load would be 3.8. Does that sound safe? Any idea what the velocity would be at this charge? I want to develop a load for major PF for Limited and minor PF for Production. I will be going to 180 grain bullets when I find a store with some in stock since there is plenty of data for them. Any recommended loads for 190 gr and tightgroup for Major and minor? I have some Universal Clays but not much, if you'd recommend that for the 190s. It seems that more folks prefer TG. Thanks in advance. Brian
