I'm in a similar situation, got into USPSA late at 48. Now at 54 it seems I need a new eye prescription every season. Thinking of polishing up the golf clubs now or resuming archery. And fyi compound bows are the PCC of archery.
Hahahaha... fuse lit

I use a Vortex venom 3 moa on my Q5. It has been completely reliable, I only changed the battery twice just before major matches only because it's a good habit, not that the battery died. Some say the window is small, but i believe window size is irrelevant. Glass size increases with practice.

My .02 from a fellow C ... after engaging first array, just turn and shoot array on the right eliminating the 3 steps. Take the 3 far right targets while moving into left port, eliminating the need to go last port all together.
Have fun.

From what I've read, I believe back in 2009 the main culprit in reliability for the Limited were the followers on the mags. I shoot a 2015 manufactured Limited using mecgar K40 mags and have no issues at all with any type of factory ammo. I can't speak to 140mm mags setup, I'm stuck in mag restricted state. I would try a mecgar mag to get her going again.

Never saw one that small.. You can just remove the caps when your ready to shoot , put back on when done.

I feel I could go ahead and make all these upgrades and still be the same lame C class shooter that i am, currently. I have realized practice and dry fire is the low hanging fruit for the USPSA game. Non of this matters to me as a shooter and helps relieve some equity burden as an RO i guess. Now i can focus on half-cock vs fully de-cocked at MR...

just started using the Walther Q5 w/ Vortex venom 3moa in CO. Starting to make the adjustment to the dot coming from Limited. Would like to see a CO forum also.
Thank You!

Based on what the OP describes, no DQ... Shoot on.
-
looks really nice!
-
OP says DQ occurred while REMOVING the pistol from it's case, not while it was being unzipped, big difference IMO.

DQ... Rule #1 " All Guns are Always Loaded".. new shooter or not. RO could have coached the shooter through the make ready process if she was in fact new to the game. People don't forget the lesson of the DQ.. ever.

I suspend them in the plastic tray and hit them with a hair dryer and let it drip off. Mini Mags particularly.

Using an old safariland 5197 holster on a boss hanger for now, but looking to get a RHT at some point.

I use the DAA Alpha X holster with my Limited. when i first got it , it was very tight in the block. gun would get hung up on the draw sometimes but not every time. I assumed i was trying to rip the gun out toward the target and not lifting enough, even after a few hundred draws but that was not the case. I noticed some roughness or burs on the trigger guard as it was scrapping derlin out of the block. Took a fine file to the guard while test fitting often, all is well now , smooth.

I played with one setup like that at the last match. It’s noticeably better than the Home Depot spring. However, I still prefer the factory spring and trigger. It’s cleaner, and you’ll shoot the same size group at 25yd or the same bill drill either way.
I chased 4 different trigger kits in my original G34. APEX’d the hell out of an M&P at 2.75lbs. Then ran $350 worth of aftermarket parts in a Tanfoglio with a 2.1lb trigger as short and clean as a 1911.
Compared to the Q5? I shoot them all the same. Leave the trigger alone and shoot/dryfire the gun as often as you can.
can't argue with that logic , I went ahead and ordered those springs Britin linked. The easy access to to spring makes it too tempting lol.. But i too will most likely revert back to stock if it seems too mushy. This is a winter project i'm assembling parts for , still shooting my Tanfo Limited Custom to finish out the season.
thanks for the help!

perfect, thank you sir

Thank you for all this great info on the Q5 , I just picked one up a few weeks ago and plan to use it for CO at some point next year. I read the whole thread and saw where you mentioned the Home Depot springs and you decided to stick with the stock springs. Did you go back to the aftermarket springs to achieve the 2 plus pound trigger with the appropriate polishing of the sear and such?

Give Henning a try .. he has some parts kits but look to be back ordered ... i would give him a call, he has been helpful in my experience.

i think edge hits should stay as is. Not all, but some shooters rely on the report of the steel even though edge hits report is reduced, it's still audible.
Are RO's are going to start making "hit" calls? Or maybe just make them knockdown plates with calibration zones, but we have that game already.

i have a Limited in .40 and i use my CR speed mag pouches with the largest shim and added a 3/8 washer, works great. Seated all the way with room for tension adjustment.

this year i plan on shooting budget Limited division with a Tanfo Limited and purchased an DAA alpha-x holster for it. Dry fire with it has been somewhat of a challenge because race holsters are new to me, and plan on giving the test this weekend at a match. Although i don't have complete confidence it the new holster i'll give it a whirl. you may see it in the classifieds soon, i think i'm faster with kydex.

I found some time this weekend to fit my Henning contour grips on my new Limited and take a range trip. I was braced for a battle with the grips to get a proper fit, had a file and dremel ready. Turns out all i needed was a torx wrench. They slide right on and holes lined up perfectly. I just got the gun a week ago and fired 200rds of factory white box and some PMC. Gun ran great , but had 1 mag stick and it was the one that came with the gun. Going to give it a squeeze in the vice , all other MecGar mags with Henning base pads worked perfectly, no hangups and fed great.

I just received an Alpha -X holster for my Tanfo Limited in .40, I'm new to the Race-type holsters and while in dry fire practice i noticed i am able to re-holster very smoothly and retention is great under lock with no play whatsoever. The draw is sticking a little bit , gun eases right out when going slow but seizes up just enough while going fast to stick a little and throw me off. Possible user error in twisting the gun while fast draw? Is just a little filing the answer here? Any input greatly appreciated.
.40 cal in CO?
in Tanfoglio (EAA / IFG)

I know some who shoot .40 in production, but that's just for the bigger grease ring. Just not cost effective if your concerned about that.
Have fun
