  1. Thanks for all the help. I did get it apart the other night. Also had the alignment tool and followed the instructions. All works great now. Very pleased with this machine. Even for someone new to reloading, I can tell this dillon stuff is the way to go!
  2. Thanks guys, I'll try driving the pins out myself like nighthawk mentioned first. If that doesnt go well. maybe sending the basic press back for service would be a good idea anyways. Didnt realize they did that service for people. Thanks again!
  3. Hi there. I've already read all the threads on lubing the 550. I just dont know where to begin with getting the black pivot pins out of the main piston linkage. Its an older machine that I just picked up used but it still looks new. However after loading a couple hundred rounds, it feels very stiff all of a sudden. I'd like to remove all the linkage and clean and lube it all. How do you get the pins out which look splined? Any one know what I'm talking about? Please help. You're advice is appreciated. thanks guys, Mike
  4. Damn, I look stupid now. And I do remember seeing that set screw now. Sorry guys. I should be good to go now. Thanks for setting me straight.
  5. Hi there. I'm just starting off reloading and got a great deal on a 550b. I've gotten everything I need now to start. However, when I installed my shellplate for my first caliber, the center bolt keeps tightening up with each turn of the indexing wheel to the point where it wont even spin. How do I keep that bolt from turning in as the shells index? Someone out there must have this same thing happening. It doesnt appear that I'm missing any pieces or a washer. should I try locktite, or put something down the hole so It cant turn in all the way? I'm stumped. I appreciate any advice you guys can offer. thanks, Mike
  6. Hi, My name is Mike McCarthy and I live in Eden, NY just south of Buffalo. I have been looking into reloading for some time now and have been researching presses and equipment for weeks. I came across a used Dillon RL550b at my local gun shop and had to have it. It looks new but I'm sure it's a few years old as it does have the old single style lever for the powder measure. However it was well taken care of. I'm still in need of some dies and tool heads. If I am correct, the powder die is the same for each caliber, which is why dies are sold in sets of three? I need an extra powder die for each tool head caliber I leave setup? So I spent a bit more on a starter press but I think it was a good move. I'll have this for a long time and should be quite productive once I get it setup and running. Looking forward to learning alot about this hobby through this forum. Thanks, Mike
