  1. Made up a nice e3 load for 38 special and thought I'd share. Using hole #.57 in the Lee Pro Auto Disk setup, I consistently dropped 3.5 grains topped off with Ringer's TCFP 125 grain coated bullets. Seated & crimped on the bullet crimp line using the Lee FCD.  With my Taurus Poly Protector 605 snubby I obtained 756 fps. Recoil was very manageable and accuracy impressive. No flyers or keyholers and target paper was cleanly punched. Brass was once-fired range brass and primers  Remington spp.

  2. I'm a plinker loading A#5 6.1 grains Eggleston 115 cnbb (0.357) and 7625 4.2 grains Darda's 124 non-shouldered lrn (0.357) in range brass. Using not enough crimp, the bullets walk/creep and some have even exited the casing while in the cylinder. With max crimp I get bullet tumble/keyholing and even a slight bit of walking (several thousandths of an inch, but usually less than 10). My starting COL is around 1.100. I use the Lee carbide dies, including the FCD, but have replaced the decapper/sizing die with a EGW undersize die (which is made by Lee for EGW).

My thoughts at this point of frustration: Back off on the max crimp to alleviate tumble, lessen the COL a bit to compensate for walking and just "put up" with some bullet creep and call it a day. But I'm open to suggestions on how to get this right.

  3. vnboileau...Sorry I'm late to my own party! I use the Lee auto disk setup and I attach a small Walmart cheapo aquarium  pump via rubber bands to the powder hopper/tower. The vibration from the pump allows the e3 to dispense evenly.

  4. Thanks for the reply Brewski...I run 3.5 grains using conical or lrn coated 124's with a COL @ 1.120. I like Eggleston and Ibejiheads bullets. For plain lead I like Darda's. I like the 0.357 diameter.

  5. Tried the search feature for this powder but nothing came up. Going back a couple of years there were a number of posts on it. Just curious as to how people are doing with it re general plinking.

  6. Surprised nobody got back to you on this. I use 9mm range brass and Lee dies. Have found a couple of fatties along the way. I bought the EGW u-die to replace the std. Lee sizer. It is made by Lee and seems to work well.

  7. I did get a response back yesterday from Nathan @ bluebullets. He said the different diameters are not a stock item (only 0.355's) but that they could special order them. He then asked me why I wanted the larger diameters. I emailed him back (because of barrel slugging outcomes) and am awaiting a reply.

Two years ago I bought some lead balls from Darda's, slugged my barrels, and sent them back for measuring. My M&P fs came in @ 0.356 and I bought 0.357's from him. Since he doesn't do coated, I have purchased from the above mentioned suppliers (Bayou, B & B, Ibejiheads, & Lucky 13). I have a sample pack coming from Eggleston. Interesting is that on the Lucky 13 & Eggleston sites, 0.357 is recommended. Of the 4 manufacturers listed above, their products are excellent and have been good to do business with.

What prompted my thread was that I wanted to try some 0.357's from bluebullets, blackbullets, and acme. And that the simple task of calling is not a preferred option for me.

    Thanks for the above responses.

  8. This may be an unanswerable question (for here) and I've recently inquired (email) of several coated bullet makers as to why only one diameter choice. Per my barrel slugging, my Taurus 9mm G2 & Walther 9mm PPX need 0.357's. One website says "call" for other diameters while several have the option built in to the online order process. I really don't want to call as I have "voice issues" (paralyzed vocal cord). You should here me at a fast food drive-thru speaker box. I'm the guy in front of you that holds the line up. I would think that with the necessity of barrel slugging, all makers would offer diameter choice up front.

  9. Thanks for sharing Smitty. Too bad 7625 is on its last lap. I concur with your SNS 125 RN load, that's closest to what I shoot. When I was doing my testing, it was a toss up between 4.3 grains and 4.5. Both were accurate but the 4.3 was a little limp on the brass ejection. I settled for the 4.5. I shoot non-shouldered Darda's 124 lrn 0.357's through my M&P FS 9mm. The recoil is sweet, maybe a tad smokey, but the ejected brass is clean. I was out shooting this morning and remarked at how good they felt to shoot.
