  1. I have a Para P16 .40 limited that I built out for Limited years ago. All new internals, magwell, bull barrel etc. Im wondering if the frame can accept the Para p18 9mm/38super mags and I could put a 9mm open top end on it. Does anyone have any experience with a conversion similar to this or have any guidance? I figure since I have the para frame with nice internals, and a holster setup for Para, it may be worth building an open top end for it.... Thanks for any help you guys can offer. There also just happens to be someone in the classifieds selling a 9mm open top end with a para barrel cut...
  2. lets not forget about costs in the equation too. The RTS2 costs $200+- more than the slide ride, has a smaller window, and sits a little higher than the 90 deg slide ride. Besides the small* weight reduction, Im having a hard time seeing the advantage to the RTS2....
  3. i too have been running a 90deg cmore and have really gotten into the groove of the low center of dot over the barrel. I like the look of the RTS2 but Im not sure what the "D" shaped viewing window would feel like when its turned on its side. Might take some getting used to. Also, with the RTS2 being slightly more compact, I wonder how a vertical RTS2 compares to a 90 deg cmore with regards to "height of dot over center of bore". They might not be too far off...
  4. Sorry, but I do not, The first time I saw one was on fred5876r's post above. I wasn't aware anybody other than TacSol made 2011-22 uppers/mags. I got the railed/threaded version. It fits well on several 1911 frames I have (kimber/RIA/etc). I bought it from Shooter's Connection and they shipped fast. Price wise it was a LOT more than the Nelson base unit, but at nearly $100 each, the mags are really making me not like it quite as much. As somebody mentioned in another thread, I tried GSG mags in a single-stack frame and they do not feed for this conversion. So a quick comparison: TacSol Threaded upper: $550 Nelson threaded upper: $450 + 129 for sight/rail combo = $579, for true apples/apples comparison. Tacsol double-stack mag: $93 Nelson double-stack mag: $40 Tac Sol single-stack mag: $97 Nelson single stack mag $25 So you pay more for the Nelson up front, but you can recoup that on the back end in mags assuming you want more than one. Anybody have any more input on the Nelson offering and mag compatability? Thanks for the input, I suppose to throw another on in the mix: Marvel Unit 1 Target with combo rail and threaded: $630 Wide stack magazine: $63 Single stack mag: $38 Thats why I was curious about the Nelson because Ive often heard the Marvel referred to as the gold standard for accuracy on these conversions. Another, even more interesting comparison, would be the Advantage Arms Target conversion. It looks like an identical design as the Marvel and tacsol units but much less expensive. Curious how it stacks up on accuracy/reliability.
  5. I bought screws from the guy mentioned by Ekujustice above. Great deal and the screws work great in the pac lite upper. He sells Torx head stuff as well. As soon as I get everything mounted up, I will post some eye candy. bluesman2a: do you know anything about the Nelson conversion? How do they stack up to the Tacsol and Marvel target units? Im looking to buy a 22 1911 setup if anyone has one they are selling. Prefer the brands just mentioned on a decent 1911 or 2011 frame. Thanks.
  6. Whew, thanks for that info. Where were you able to buy the tacsol 6/40 screws?
  7. hey guys, i have a tacsol pac lite upper on a new Volquartsen frame. I noticed the drilled holes on the pac lite receiver match that of a standard ruger but when I tried to take the weaver rail off my factory upper, and put in on the pac lite upper, the screws would turn in maybe one two threads then get so tight they would stop and i didnt want to force it. Do the tacsol pac lite receivers have a different thread pattern than the factory ruger? Are you only able to use tacsol scope rails for this reason? Let me know, i dont want to force it and strip threads but I really want to use a non-tacsol scope rail if possible.Thanks.
  8. I'm going to snap some pics tonight. I just got a factory ruger mkiii mag delivered so I'm going to try it and see if it's and issue specific to the majestic arms mags or if it's related to the frame. The majestic arms are made for mkiii pistols so I'm not sure why it would matter but I want to try a factory ruger mag in the process of elimination. I've also seen guys at rimfire steel shoots using the majestic mags in the volquartsen frame. Maybe they had to do some modifying or maybe my frame does have some issues. Stay tuned.
  9. Hey guys, I recently got a new VQ VC target frame that comes complete with VQ's internal parts. My first trouble was its awful fitment with both a factory 5" bull barrel and a PAC lite upper. Finally got the lugs to fit and the upper fits now but extremely tight Now I just bought some brand new majestic arms mags so I could shoot it and it will not even come close to seating the mags? Anyone have any advice or smiikar experience with one of these.? So far very unimpressed.... The vc frame is designed for mkIII mags but the majestic arms mags are for both mkII And mkIII. Is there a secret I don't know like you can only use factory ruger mkiii mags and not majestic arms.? Thanks for any help.
  10. Thanks for the input, I guess while we are at it, what scope mounts do you guys like with these scopes??
  11. Just looking to get some feedback on a good entry level AR 3gun scope? I see a fair amount of the Burris 1-4x scopes (different models) and some Bushnells. What is everyones experience? Id like to get into some rifle competition but a Swarovski etc isnt in the budget yet. Under $400 would be ideal to start. Thanks in advance for your input.
  12. Hey guys, Forgive me if this topic is covered elsewhere but I am new to the forum and am learning the ropes. I used to shoot USPSA 10 years ago then went away to college and got a job so Ive been away from it for about 8 years and have the itch to get back into it. Im noticing a trend towards 9mm major more than 10 years ago when it was considered a wildcat round and 38 super and supercomp dominated. My question is, I was looking at a used open gun the other week from a used gun dealer who knew nothing about the gun. The barrel was marked 9x19 but I was wondering if there is any way of telling whether a gun was set up to shoot 9mm minor/factory (steel gun) or was set up to shoot 9mm major for a major power factor uspsa gun? I guess perhaps a more general question is whether or not there is a difference in the "gun setup" between the two loads or is it simply a difference in the ammunition? Thanks in advance for all your help.
