  1. Anyone have any "must" or "go to" shotgun 3gun drills?

I've really been focusing on mastering the shotty as of late and haven't had a lot of luck finding 3gun shotty drills.

I have read lots of Pat Kellys stuff and was curious what eveyone else does.

I focus heavily on quad loading, shooting on move, reloading from empty, speed on plate racks, speed of first shot, and lots of accuracy on steel, so anyone have any specific stuff?

Oh and I shoot spinners in practice here and there. I really need to get one for home. Perhaps next year.

    Thanks

  2. Couple times per year detailed. Upper usually once per week.

    +1. Yep, me too.

    Yep.

Once the season gets going, I shoot about a thousand rounds a week, so I clean my slide every Friday.

I usually completely disassemble 2 or 3 times a year.

  3. For anyone who hasn't tried the dot drill, I highly recommend it.

In the North country I don't shoot all winter and I am using the dot drill to knock the rust off of my pistol shooting.

This is an excellent drill that forces you to track that front sight and get back to calling those shots.

In my opinion, it works wonders.

  4. Why would you want a builder who put his name on that to fix the gun? I don't have any full custom pistols, but if I did, I would expect them to be painstakingly hand fit in every imaginable dimension. Any shop that is selling something less than that as a "custom" gun at custom prices wouldn't be getting my business.

You would think this but lots of corner cutting by big name custom gunsmiths.

If you follow this site a lot, you will see plenty of $4k to $5k guns with some half assed gunsmithing.

Its sad but quality is hard to find, even when spending top dollar.

I have owned several high end custom guns, whether precision rifles or 2011s, and have sent back several of them for bad gunsmithing or been left disappointed.

They are usually fixed but you would think for the money they would in fact be gone over with a fine tooth comb.

  5. I'm going with the FFP once it becomes available. On low power, you will be at close range and using the dots, so you will not need to see the reticle, as a matter of fact, the reticle will only get in the way when you are shooting fast. Then one you crank it up to 8x, you will use the reticle to aim/holdover, etc.

The FFP has a great reticle and is the way I am going. I cant wait for this thing to hit the market, its what i'll be running this year for sure.

  6. 2016 and they don't have a website?

Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

My thoughts as well. Can charge $5500 for a limited pistol and not even make a cheap WordPress website?

If it matters to the OP, my next limited pistol will either be a bedell or cheely.

One sage piece of advice, lots of gunsmiths can build good guns, for some reason though, only a few are good at customer service.

If you cannot readily get return phone calls or emails from a Smith, u need to find another. If the Smith doesn't have time to answer your questions, even your dumb ones, then get another.

Nothing worse in the gun industry than to drop $4k on a pistol and then never be able to get ahold of your Smith when something breaks on the gun.

  7. Rangerdug:

Hes getting bit on his left hand in his palm swell from gripping the gun and then clicking the ambi safety off. The Safety pinches the palm swell on your main (left) hand between the Safety and the grip.

It only happens to a lefty because the right side of an ambi safety does not have an area that can pinch your hand against the grip of the gun.

As usual, lefties gotta toughen up and fight thru this right handed world. :)

  8. I have both a BCM KMR alpha and the Rainier arms keymod.

The BCM alpha is super light, very rigid, and can be had for $170ish.

The Rainier arms keymod is a rebranded Sampson and is really nice for under $150.

I like both and have a BCM KMR alpha on my 3gun rifle. With barrel nut, the handguard is 10ish ounces.

If I were you, I would go to Rainier arms or some other big vendor and browse the options in the 13 inch range. Lots of options.

  9. I just received my Stretch16 and i'm debating whether or not its worth getting an adjustable gas block.

I will be running a JP LMOS, lightweight buffer, and a JP buffer spring. Is it worth it to buy an adjustable SLR gas block or should I just use the gas block that came with the barrel?

  10. Lets talk AR barrel nut torque specs.

I have seen in a few threads the random comment about "more torque, more consistency," and wanted to start a separate thread on this. Everywhere you read, it says to torque a barrel from 30 to 80 ft lbs. Some specific manufacturers actually give you a number of 35 lbs or 45 lbs, etc.

I saw a comment on another thread stating to torque to 75 lbs for most cold/hot consistency. So what does everyone else think on this topic? Whats the consensus?

Is the standard for a rifle now 75 lbs or whats everyone doing?
