Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This has been my continuing struggle. When I started, I was pretty accurate (for a noob), but I was slow. So I sped up to max speed and ignorantly thought that there would be little drop off with my accuracy. I was wrong. I played sports most my life and played full-throttle. I haven't been shooting for very long, so I have to make a conscious effort to go slow at times, because my instincts says go fast. Some of the best advice that I have been given is to know which targets you can go fast. So when you walk the stage, say to yourself "fast, fast, slow, slow, fast, fast" for each target depending on how you should shoot it.
  2. I dry fire at 2"x2" post-it notes. I initially did it because they were easy up and easy down because my wife complained about targets all over the house (now she complains about post-its). Now I do it because if I can hit a small post-it, I can hit where I am aiming at on a target. Dry firing like this has helped me go from a D class when I started Dec. 2012 to A class now.
  3. For Holster, I use an RLN holster off the AA website. I have 3 different RLN holsters and they are all great. Also very affordable. http://automaticaccuracy.net/?wpsc-product=rln-custom-gear-kydex-belt-holsters-2 For pouches, I use Ghost 360. Never had a bit of trouble with them. http://automaticaccuracy.net/?wpsc-product=ghost-360-mag-pouches
  4. This is something that I practice at the gym. I am a member of a 24 hour gym and typically later in the evening no one is there. So what I do, is I grab a 5lb dumbbell and use it for transition drills. I pick two or three targets and transition between them. Then to work on footwork, I will make a "course" out of yoga mats. This helps with footwork coming into position and exploding out. Treat the dumbbell just like you would your gun, with trigger finger out when moving. The advantages of doing this in the gym is that you have all the mirrors where you can watch to make sure you are not breaking the 180. It also can help you train to think on your feet, because inevitably, someone is going to walk in wondering what the heck you are doing and you are running around carrying a single dumbbell with yoga mats all over the place.
