  1. Looks like it was a great first experience Matt. Sounds kind of like my first go a few months back. It's a great sport with some real genuine people. Get ready to be scouring the internet on new toys for your next match. If you thinking you'll be doing this a while it would be worth picking up some good reading material. Brian Enos and Ben Stoeger both have great action pistol shooting books out. As far as I know Brian has one and Ben has 3 out at the moment and will be releasing his 4th book in the next month. What you will learn in these books will really put your best foot forward and answer so many questions you will have. Best of luck and have fun.

  2. At the moment I am having to deal with a Lee Turret press. Will be getting a RL 550b in a few months. In the mean time I am having some difficulty getting consistent OAL lengths on my 9mm loads. I have sorted my brass so that I am loading my preferred ones ( FC, WIN, PMC, Blazer, RP ). Today I was loading up a sample pack of 147GR FN rounds from Blue Bullets. I have heard nothing but good stuff about them so I wanted to give them a try. After loading up a few different loads I was going to head to the range and chrono them later today but out of curiosity sake I was checking each round with my digital calipers. My first two or three were right on where I wanted them at 1.150 / 1.151. The next 8 rounds were anywhere from 1.142 to 1.158. I might be making a big deal out of nothing but seeing as I barely passed my last chrono at my first major match with a 125.8 PF I would like to get a better handle on my loads. Are those OAL differences acceptable or should I be looking at doing something else to be more consistent. When I load up on my friends Dillon 550 the OAL length is typically with 1.149 and 1.151.

  3. Everybody's getting ready for matches this weekend, so that's probably why there's been no responses. I have to work, so I've got the time...bummer!

Looks like you're doing very well for someone that's just starting out. You shoot with confidence and aggressiveness which is very good. I think if you keep on the same track you'll reach your goal of A class by this summer.

The one thing that stuck out in my mind when watching the video is that you're leaving the gun behind a bit when moving to the right. If you're not careful, and depending on the angle you're moving, it might be real easy to break the 180 when doing that. Keep the gun in line with your body or in front of you when moving.

Do you see what I mean by leaving the gun behind when moving? It appeared to happen 2 or 3 times, and the gun was more in line with your left shoulder and pointed briefly at the left berm.

Keep up the good work, and we hope to see you in Florida for some matches.

Thanks Grapemeister! I review all my videos as much as I can and nit pick anything I see that can be improved upon. I didn't notice the gun pointing in line with my left shoulder until now. Thank you for pointing that out. It looks like it mostly happen after the reload. I need to remember to keep it in line with my body like you said. I really appreciate the honest feedback and thanks for taking the time to respond! It would be great to shoot down in Florida. Not during the summer of course =)

  4. Do you have to change the guide rod to change the springs? I'm interested in doing this to my Gen 4 34.

Yes. You need to replace the GEN4 guide rod assembly and purchase the individual parts, guide ( either stainless or tungsten ), your spring ( recommend a 13lb ISMI ) and then a guide rod GEN 4 to GEN 3 guide rod plug.

  5. If you want reliability stick with the Glock. Some of really great 3 gunners use Glocks and it doesn't seem to slow them down at all. 2011's are great and I will be getting one soon but because a lot of stuff is modified to fit by a gunsmith you are really putting your faith in them to build you a gun that will run properly. For the most part all 2011 builders use quality parts. It comes down to who puts them together. I am fairly new to action shooting but I haven't shot one match too date where I didn't see someone having problems with there 2011's.

  6. I have had less then a handful of light strikes through my Production G34 GEN 4 with comp springs, connector, polish job, etc. I narrowed it down to a few things. First was all my light strikes came from CCI primers. My Federal batches go bang every time. Second, I have had better success with CCI when I make sure the striker assembly is nice and clean ( the whole gun actually ).

  7. I replaced my 34 gen 4 with a 13lb spring. You can definitely tell a difference. I purchased mine through ZEV technologies. It was the 13lb ISMI recoil spring. If you have a GEN 4 you will need to get a spring plug so you can use the GEN 3 model of springs. With your PF you shouldn't have any problems cycling the slide. Mine works every time with 125 PF.

  8. Hey guys. Just a little background. I started shooting in November. This match was my 7th overall match with one being a classifier and another being the 2014 Alabama Sectional major. I got my B class card in Feb and it looks like from my rankings in matches that its where I should be. My goal is to get A class by the end of summer. I am very limited on time for matches and currently the most I have been able to shoot in a month is 2 matches with one matching being the norm. If only I lived closer to Atlanta =). With all that said I am really relying on my dry fire practice which I am also slacking in. I need to find a way to practice movement in my house with reloads but my floor is all hardwood. Does anyone have suggestions for that? I have done two sessions in my backyard which is mostly open to my neighbors. I have talked with the ones directly beside me and they have no problem at all. But with the yards being so open I would hate for someone to see me back there who doesn't know what I am doing and call the cops. These days you never know what might go down in that situation. Ok enough rambling. Here is my last match. My friend ( camera man ) missed two stages and I left one out that was going well but I had a malfunction which caused me to stop the prematurely.

  9. Just got in a sample pack of the 9mm 147s. I am currently loads berrys 147 RN plated bullets with 4.1gr of longshot to get 130pf'ish. What would you guys recommend to stay in the same ball park. I've read that you can load about 5-6% less powder in these to maintain your PF for the same grain bullet.

  10. Like others have said. Safety first. You can do some dry fire now prior to the match. Do this after you are familiar with the rules. It will also help watching some videos of some guys higher up in the sport. If your shooting production I wouldn't recommend breaking down videos with guys shooting open class. Going back to dry fire. It will help you with your nerves come match day. I know it helped me a lot. Let the match director and RO know its your first time. Most of the time at my local match the new shooters get a little more slack. For example the RO's will talk to them after a stage and let them know what they did wrong safety wise. If they do it again it most likely will be a DQ.
