  1. Got a question about red dot optics, not sure if this is the proper forum but I do have an X5. Have never shot a red dot before, but given my eyes at 59, I understand it would be beneficial. Have read some posts on this forum about the Vortex Viper, Burris Fast Fire and of course the Romeo. I understand the Romeo is difficult to find while the Vortex and Burris are readily available. Can someone give me the pros/cons on going with either of these? Other than the battery being on the bottom of the Viper requiring removal of the optic to replace, what else is there to consider. I think the 6 MOA dot would be helpful for me, rather than a tiny dot. Midway has the Viper on sale for $180, so if I find I can't shoot with it, I guess I could always try to sell it and would not have invested too many $$.

Any help to a poor sighted guy would be appreciated. If this is not the right forum, I'll repost on the optics forum, but I was hoping for some X5 specific feedback. Thx

The Leupold Deltapoint Pro is really nice too if you are willing to pay $350-$399

  2. Since the Romeo 1 is not available for sale which one would do you guys prefer? The Vortex has the best warranty

  3.
The Talons are available either way. I just ordered two sets of the granulate for my X5 grips.

Definitely the granular Grips for competition. [emoji1303]

  4. Update for me. My first match with the X5 is in the books. It was a small indoor match and I finished third overall (91%) behind an Open GM and a PCC shooter.
Not trying to rub it in, but the tungsten guide rod and the whole setup in general is pretty outstanding. Very soft and flat shooting. I need to work on my grip and recoil control more but even without really crushing my support hand it was shooting very flat with 124s. Here is another short clip with a good view of the slide motion. Now to switch back to the iron sights and magwell for a 3 Gun match this weekend.

Okay Alma that was amazingly flat shooting. Let us know if you arrange for a vendor to make the guide rods [emoji1319]

  5. I ordered Talons because I want raparround vs grip panels. Maybe I should try my GGI guide rod after I am done breaking it in with some warm 124gr FMJ.

  6. Thanks to S&W686 giving us a heads-up that Gilbert's Guns has the X5 in stock, I was able to order one Tuesday morning and picked it up from my local FFL this afternoon. The pistol feels great in my hand (my first large frame Sig) since I have been shooting a Gen2 Glock 17 for many years. Since I am a LH shooter, I am psyched that I finally have a pistol with the slide release on the RH side of the frame. The first thing I did was swap the mag release button so it is also on the RH side.

Three things jumped out at me after handling the gun for a little bit. I definitely need to get some grip tape on the grip. After just a few minutes of holding it in my house it was already feeling slippery to me. Would love any feedback if there is an noticeable difference between Talon and Springer grip enhancers. Second, the front sight is to narrow for my liking. I'm a big fan of Dawson fiber optic sights (have them on two my pistols) but the sight on the X5 just looks to tiny. It is 0.09" and the notch in the rear sight is 0.125". I'll shoot it first, but I suspect I'll be ordering a wider front sight from Dawson. The trigger is definitely very good for a factory trigger and it's my first pistol with a flat trigger. But, it is not as smooth and light as the custom trigger on my G17. I'll have to fire it a bit to see how it feels.

Hope to get this on the range in the next couple of days to see how it handles five or six different brands of ammo plus my reloads. I'm really looking forward into shooting my first USPSA match with the X5 once I get a holster, mag pouches, etc. Until then, it's still the G17.

Got this pistol sooner than I thought I would be able to.

It's definitely slick. I wish they would have went with more grip texture because it's easier to sand off texture then add it. I am ordering the Springer grip tape because I know how rough it is. Good stuff. The flat PELT trigger cleans up the pull quite a bit but I am not at a level where a custom trigger job would add time.

I saw someone issue a warning on another page about the length of the 21 round magazines and it is worth repeating.

The 21 round mags are ever so slightly long for the USPSA gage. If you rest them in there you will see a very small gap at the top where it doesn't sit perfectly flat in the gage without a bit of pressure. It's not much but an overzealous chrono check might call it out and move you to open.

The Fix is easy: just remove a small amount of material from the bottom corner of the factory base pad or use the Springer plus two extensions before heading to a major match.

Are these the 140mm 21 round magazine base pads? It says you only get 1 extra round with the grams follower. Thanks Alma!

  8. It's possible

Sweet! I put 250 rounds through my X5 today and thought a little extra weight would be great [emoji1303]

  9. I have been testing some guide rods from one source that does small batch machine jobs. Grayguns and Springer Precision have them in the works as well. Not sure on the ETA.

Are you going to test a heavier one?

  10. Does anyone know details about the X Five barrel? The appearance in unlike any Sig barrel I have seen on a handgun. Thanks!

  11. Max is running the R3 on this open guns and other frame mounted dots. He did try the R3 on his full size P320s but went to the R1 which is what he used to win the last Carry Optics Nationals title. We will see what he settles on with his X5s.
He has been giving lots of feedback to the SIG Optics team so it's fair to expect that they will make improvements based on that feedback.

    Cool thanks Alma!

Great to hear. I can't count the number of times I have had to respond to questions about how to get a Romeo1.

Alma, will the Romeo 3 fit? I heard that Max is running the Romeo 3 but maybe it's on his custom open gun.

Nope. It's a good trigger. But like any other striker-fired production gun, it isn't a "custom" trigger. A good shooter can make do with it as is. Or it can be modified by a smith or enhancement kit to work better for a shooter's skill set.

Mine came with a better trigger pull than my P320 Compact did. It's as good as my Compact that has the flat PELT trigger. Must be the luck of the draw :)

  14. I finally found one in a LGS and grabbed it. I paid a little more than online but it comes out the same with shipping and transfer fee. Can't wait to hit the range. The grip feels perfect.

I honestly don't think the Stock 2 bull barrel is that much bull compared to the regular barrel in Stock 3. I think IDPA should just remove the bull barrel restriction from rule book to avoid the confusion on which bull barrels are too bull.

It's all a bunch of Bull! Lol. I can shoot a CZ 75 Shadow SA in IDPA but not a Sig P226 Legion SAO. Why is width an issue? I have never hear of wider guns being some advantage.

  16. I am hearing that IDPA may be allowing the X5. They think the bull barrel isn't enough of a bull barrel to exclude it. This still needs confirmation.

That would be nice since the rules really limit our choices of firearms.

  17. What did you decide on? My P320 C groups with sight picture #2 which I like with the 8 rear and 6 front in 9mm. I'm looking for aftermarket sights with more air between the rear and front. Any suggestions? My stock contrast sights are zeroed at 15  yards perfectly.

  18. The geometry change is a question mark. I have heard yes from one source and no from another. I hope to find out definitely on Monday when I pick up mine.

Are you having the GGI crew install the action enhancement parts? I spent some time with Jeff and Bruce at Shot Show and got a peek at the kit.

Nope.  Ordered/reserved with a credit card, but the Sig pro shop didn't charge it until the gun shipped.

    Cool thanks!

  20. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to pay full price for a pre-order with no concrete delivery date. I have other firearm priorities for upcoming classes and matches. Did you guys have to order with full price down?

  21. I guess I get to be the Devil's Advocate this time around =)

I would estimate for our sport the average paper target is 5 to 7 yards away with the average steel 10 to 12 yards away. Do the occasional shots sneak in that double those ranges? Yes, but I guarantee you those long range shots will be less than 10% of the targets you'll engage in this sport. So while you need to know the hold over for a particular gun at a really long ranges, I would advocate sighting in at something more like 8 yards.

In my case I sight in my iron sighted USPSA pistols at 25 feet.

I'm not the engineer to do the math on the POI difference between being zeroed at your suggested 5 yards vs my suggested 8-1/3 yards, but I'd bet a beer it's no more than 1/8" for an iron sighted gun.

So I say go for it at 5 yards.

I made this sound more complicated than it is. I am zeroing for 25 yards yet shooting groups at 5 or 7 yards because it's easier to see. Just like someone would zero a rifle at 100 yards using a target at 25 yards. It's the distance targets that I am having trouble with so my zero helps me.

    Thanks

  22. My distance vision is not the best and until I get a carry optics gun I need to get my handgun sights zeroed. I was thinking about plotting the trajectory and making a target that has one target spot for the point of aim and another one for point of impact. Then I could use a rest at 5 yards and see everything perfectly. What do you guys think? I have a really accurate ballistics calculator.
