  1. I like the Hi Viz tricomp because they sponsor the sport and the triangle front sight is a good slug sight for long range targets. I use the tip of the sight like a rifle sight.

The Flashpoint also has the triangle FO. Thats why Im struggling to see much of difference between the two.

  2. I see the flashpoint is longer, and cheaper. Both sights are made out of steel, so what am I missing? Why the $15 price difference? I'm leaning toward the flashpoint right now because longer FO= more light gathering unless someone can point me a different direction.

Has anyone else figured out a better way to secure the non-screwed on end other than a zip tie?

  3. The huge majority of my shotgun experience has been turkey hunting and the rest has been with fixed chokes, so i really don't know much about anything other than cylinder and x-full. What chokes are the most versatile, what can I safely shoot slugs out of? Buck shot? Anything you can teach me would be great!

  4. I am working on a $100 Police Wingmaster 870 and basically want to learn everything I can about custom tuning a shotgun on a project I dont have much invested into. What are some common tune-ups, upgrades, etc. people at the high end custom shops do to 870s? Loading port work? Lifter work? Trigger work? Action arm work? Just looking to learn as much as I can while making a pretty nice little shotgun. Thanks!

  5. Has anyone handled both? I've narrowed down my choices to these two. Weight between them is negligible. I'm average height so LOP really isn't a huge factor, but I think the MOE is slightly shorter.

Specs on the rest of the rifle are:

    Seekins receivers

WOA 18" rifle length SS barrel

    15" seekins SP3R

    ALG trigger

    JP LMOS

    JP Comp

    Thanks for any help!

why wouldnt u want a collapasable stock for 3 gun

last year at rock castle we shot out of a car. the stock colllapsed was better than an ace

i have ace also but u cant shorten it for 1 stage

i also shoot out of a lot of vehicles a lot. easier to do even with 11.5" bbl. must be a bitch with the long bbls u guys seem to need.

    what am i missing.

Well i personally cant stand shooting "nose to CH" so the added stability as well as having a rifle length buffer system is better for me. Can't speak for others though.

  6. I have tried plenty, 10/22 sights, different fronts, mid beads, etc.

My favorite sights for a shotgun are the hiviz comp sight up front and an xs rear milled into the rib. I have switched all my guns over to this configuration. Its great for slugs, not in the way for shooting fast, and rock solid durable.

This intrigues me...Do you have any pictures of this set-up?

  8. Thanks for the help guys. Another question: what is the practical differences between the Nova and Super Nova? I know the supernova can have the comfortech stock, but aside from that is there anything between the two? Dimensionally, they appear to be the same.

  9. So I currently own a 24" Nova that I used for turkey hunting for a few years, but have since graduated (its in great shape...maybe 100 rounds through it). I found a complete Police Magnum 870 (minus a barrel) for $100 so I picked that up too (was a police trade-in).

Now the question is: What should I do?

    A) Add an extension and change sights on the Nova and use that for my 3 gun pump shotgun and buy an 18" barrel for the 870 and use it as a fun range gun

B ) Hold the Nova for trading barter for a future purchase (say an M2) and buy a 24" ribbed barrel for the 870 and build that into a 3-gun shotgun.

    What say the pros here?

  10. Here is a link to my gunzoo vault where you can see the specs on my Nova that Trapr Swanson built.

I'm on a phone so I probably missed it, but how many rounds is that mag extension tube?

    Thanks

The tube is a +9 Nordic Components. A stock nova holds 4+1 so the gun holds 13+1.

    Oh wow, wasn't expecting that.

It looks like it only sticks out about 3-4"...would a 7 round extension be approximately flush with the 24" barrel?

  11. As I delve further into this sport, I seem to find more questions than answers and my past hunting experiences have shaped all I know. So with that said, I'm looking for a sight set-up for my benelli that would be best for 3-gun. I assume a FO front sight, but I don't know. Anyone run mid beads? Rear sight? Aperture? Rifle sights? Etc.

What would you suggest I look into?

    Thanks for any opinions!

  12. I've used them all in matches and for 3Gun, the MTAC is ahead of the PST. If you are more concerned with shooting tiny groups at smallish targets, then the PST is ahead of the MTAC. The Tac30 is less expensive, with the same reticle, but the MTAC is preferable and the reasons you mentioned are the differences. The ability to adjust the the power ring independent of the ocular is best for clarity and durability. The illumination, when you decide you need it in the middle of a stage because the light changed...totally worth it.

The better and faster you get, the more you will appreciate the reticle on the MTAC. For anything past 250 yards, you are not even using the large center dot, so it does not matter. The ability to use the dot sizes to gauge distance on targets has saved me from shooting the wrong distance more than once. I can understand how people who don't shoot majors or who are starting out may not understand the benefits, but they are certainly there as you get better.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it. However, I think I will be doing *some* precision shooting with this rifle, and I dont plan on using the load that the reticle is calibrated for so thats next to useless to me. The more I think about it, the more I think the Burris Reticle just isn't right for my intentions. Unless anyone sees a flaw in my logic?

  13. I owned the MTAC and I have nothing bad to say about it. However, when I was looking for a scope the prices between the MTAC and the PST were a big enough difference that it helped me with my decision. Today the prices are close enough I would have to lean towards the PST. Either one you pick you wont make a bad decision so enjoy and get out and shoot.

Thanks for the input. I can find the capped PST for a few buck cheaper than the Mtac, and the exposed turret model for about $15 more. So yes, price is a wash.

The fact I want to be able to do some more precise shooting has me leaning to the PST

  14. I have spent time with each of the scope you are looking at except the Leupold. I absolutely don't like the reticle in the Mtac/ tac30. It is one of the weirdest reticles I have seen. I know it works for some other people, but not for me. The Vortex reticle was much better for me. I have had three different Vortex scopes and I am currently using Razor II. I would look through a Mtac or tac30 before you decide to buy one.

And this is what I'm concerned with. I don't like the reticle on paper, but I will reserve judgement until I get somewhere that has one to look to through.

This gun isn't primarily for precise shots, but it will probably be my most capable gu , so I'd like the option, and that big dot in the Burris effectively ends this.

But still open to all opinions, thanks!
