  1. It'd be hard to drill through, but if you could get it set up, I think it'd be pretty sweet. We had a granite counter top in my house growing up that cracked accross the middle, I believe due to heat / cold changes? I wonder if the repetitive load from the press would cause the granite to crack?

  2. I was just browsing the forum, and got off the couch to grab an otter pop. I think I have decided that the otter pop is my favorite BE forum snack (food, not drink...that's a different thread).

What's your favorite BE forum snack, and/or your favorite range snack on a hot summer day?

  3. Yes I left the stage like that. Holstered pistol, slide locked back, jammed mag and ammo stuck everywhere. Someone went and got a screw driver, and a few minutes later we re-seated the round into the mag. I then went to a berm with another shooter, unholstered in a safe direction, removed the mag, showed clear, dropped the slide, dropped the hammer, and reholstered.

When the gun jammed, it was essentially a paper weight...totally locked up. We knew it would take tools to fix. Not sure if we had any other options really...

  4. It's fundamentals and basic, but make sure you have a good grip on the firearm before you come out of the holster. I know a lot of times I end up with a weak grip because I'm thinking about coming out of the holster before I've even gripped the gun.

Not all practice is equal. Make every draw perfect, regardless of how fast or slow it is. Over time, it will speed up.

Depending on what you're carrying for (concealed, competition, etc.), a drop and offset like the one made by Blade Tech can help with the grip, if you can afford it (ie you're not carrying concealed).

  5. The sport is a blast. Use it to improve your shooting for sure. But don't get so hooked on the sport that you lose your combat mindset. A lot of shooters do it as a game...you can't afford to make that mistake. Don't practice bad habits for your work while you're out playing for fun, and don't let the game cause a let down in your SA at work. ....Certainly not anything you don't already know, just a friendly reminder.

Thanks for your service and stay safe.

  6. Have you found any military support for shooting or 3gun? There's so many programs and benefits out there, both within the military and with military support organizations, but they can be so difficult to find! Any way that you've found for your job to help support your shooting habits, whether it's with time, permissive TDY, funding, sponsorships, scholarships, etc? I know there has to be some stuff out there...

  7. I shoot 3gun, and want my wife to shoot 3gun too. She has received training with a pistol, shoots great, enjoys it. I have taken her out to shoot my 5.56 AR a couple of times...she liked it well, and said it was fun. A few months ago, I took her out to shoot a shotgun. Borrowed my buddy's 20 gauge, bought a box or two of factory birdshot for it, and put my wife about 10 yards out from a static clay. I convinced her to take 3 shots...she missed and shot over the clay every time, and after 3 shots said "I'm done, I hate it", and handed the gun back to me.

Any of you have any experience teaching a female how to shoot a shotgun? Any females out there have any tips for me? If I could get her to enjoy breaking clays, I think she would just eat it up...sporting clays, trap, skeet, whatever. This is the break through I need for her to start shooting 3gun, and thus not hate on me as much for shooting 3gun, spending money on 3gun, etc. etc. etc. So what's your best advice?

Moral of the story (for those of you with a decent news-memory...)? Joe Biden is wrong.

  8. I was at a fairly large 3gun match earlier this year. It was my first ever non-local, "national" match. About 2 magazines into an all pistol stage with about 30-40 targets, I had a malfunction with my 1911. I seated a new magazine, a round came almost 1cm out of the mag, but did not chamber. The slide could move back and forth just a little bit behind the round, but the round wouldn't chamber, and the magazine would not release from the gun. I tried for 2-3 minutes during the stage to fix the malfunction, but ended up having to take failure to engage penalities for the rest of the 25 targets or so. I holstered the weapon, and later we used a screw driver to push the partially dislodged round back into the magazine, and then was able to remove the magazine and clear the firearm. Under normal circumstances, I fully understand that in all 3gun competition, if you're equipment breaks or malfunctions, that's on you. BUT....

The day before, another shooter in my squad, on an all shotgun stage, fired off a a couple of shots, and realized he had a stuck follower on his shotgun tube. The RO at that stage gave him a re-shoot. Therefore, this being my first real 3gun match and not fully knowing the rules, I assumed that since the other shooter the day before had been offered a reshoot for personal equipment malfunction, the same courtesy would be extended to me as well? The RO on my pistol stage denied my reshoot, which seemed appropriate given that he wasn't at the shotgun stage the day before, and ordinarily the rules would say I don't deserve a reshoot. However, upon appealing to the match director, despite him being aware of the reshoot given to my fellow squad member the day before, I was denied a reshoot nonetheless.

So, the match is over, and none of it really matters now, but I'm just curious from a theoretical standpoint...

Do you agree with the match director, or did I get screwed??

  9. I'm considering getting a new AR in .308. Currently, I have a Noveske in 5.56 that I have been very happy with. I'd like to have the .308 for shooting He-Man 3gun, and for the occasional chance I might have to hunt for deer or similar.

I've looked at the JP and LaRue rifles. I know DPMS and Knight's make one as well.

What do you guys like? What brand should I go with for a high-end, .308 AR?

  10. My local metal recycling plant gives me $2 / lb for brass. I'll pick it up from anywhere, no matter what, even if its beat to hell or I have no intention of reloading it. Keep a nice big garbage can full of it in the garage, and take it down a couple of times a year for a nice $60-$100 contribution to the gear fund. Great way to get some extra money on the side without upsetting the family budget too much.
