So, now that you've shot a bit, what do you think?
Rowdy,
I had a great time. Shot the L10 ok, but screwed up the SS.
But, regardless I had a good time, went to the awards, etc. Got to see
some friends I had not seen for a long time. Will probably stay closer
to home from now on and will shoot as long as I can. Started in 1979
and I am 70, but still have several good years left.
Thanks to everyone that responded to my OP.

Get there early - a shooter I knew personally arrived 15 minutes late and they wouldn't let him shoot
- and this wasn't the Nat'ls - just a state level match in Frostproof.
If the Nat'ls people are setting the stages, you'll be fine, BUT if the Frostproof people are setting the
stages, prepare for Memory COF's - really not much you can do about them except arrive Very Early.
Pray for dry weather.
Make sure your ammo is going thru their chrono at PF
Good luck and have fun. Let us know how Sebring is - never stayed down there.
Thanks Hi-Power Jack. Great advise, always try to get there early, please pray for dry weather
and more points can be lost at Chrono than at any other stage. Will do on Sebring.......

You can look at Nationals like 3 local matches with a few more stages than the regular locals.
I would sit down as much as possible when your not resetting the stages or whatever. It makes a big difference on your feet and back after being on your feet day after day of just standing and walking. I was surprised at how many miles I actually walked over the 3.5 days of Nationals.
Good luck and enjoy yourself. It’s a game so have fun with it.
Thanks A Matt. I am 70 and I appreciate the info.......

For SS and Revolver, there is just one group per day, the AM and PM squads were combined. Look on Practiscore or at the schedule in the match book. They sent an email that stated we are shooting 12:30 - 5:00 on Thursday and 9:00 - 2:15 on Friday and Saturday. Good luck.
Thank you very much. I have not received anything. I just checked Practiscore and I was on Sqd 221
and now I am on Sqd 203 (with same shooters). But, it still says PM/AM/PM and no times listed.
No problem, will check tomorrow, when I sign up for L10. Thank You again for the information.......

First time shooting at the Frost Proof Range; does anyone have any advise?
I am staying in Sebring and shooting back to back for the first time. L10 then SS
with same pistol. Bringing an identical gun as back up and plenty of ammo along
with wagon (w/rain cover), rain gear, water, Gatorade, snacks, etc. Have shot several
Area matches over the years, but this is my first Nationals. Shooting PM/AM/PM in
both matches. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.......

This is great news. Will be in Mesa for Feb and its less than a 6 hr drive.
Hoping to get a buddy of mine that will also be in Mesa to come with;
either way I think I am going. Love shooting Single Stack. Takes me
back to my roots, started shooting Comp in 1979.......

That is a nice looking pistol. Thinking about it, I believe my buddy did the EGW ignition change as well.......

Please don’t stop reading the “FREE STUFF” posts. I have given away many things to

... good move avoiding the indoor range. At age 28 I was running indoor IDPA and went from a 6 to a 13 in a few month’s time.
I firmly believe the primary exposure to heavy metals from shooting is breathing in the nasty fouling that gunfire results in. It’s airborne.
I did not reduce my outdoor range time and was shooting 3 all-day matches a month. I did not change my coated-bullet reloading habits beyond wearing nitrile gloves while doing so. The only thing I hugely changed was completely avoiding that poorly-ventilated indoor range which had a bare steel backstop... Which is just as bad as your steel bay at causing high levels of lead in the air.
My lead level plummeted over the next six months, back to 8.
I don’t shoot near as much anymore, and now it’s at 4 or lower typically.
(I also work in an industrial environment which undoubtedly results in higher than office-worker levels.)
Thanks for the info. I'd love to have a single digit lead level. Doing what my Dr told me to do and will let everyone know how it goes.
Great job getting your level down. I really do not miss shooting indoors that much. Being retired I can shoot outdoors more. Thanks again!

I have not heard it was canceled. Where did you get the info?
I had signed up for the SS match, pd and squadded. However, I received an email today that
my match fee was being refunded and the match was cancelled. Still trying to find out
what happened. Hoping they can get it worked out and still have the match???

Has anyone seen any info other than that date and place posted and or info on other big matches that have been shot there.
Rusty,
Not sure what you are asking? We haven't shot the 2019 SS Nationals yet.
I looked on the USPSA match page and do not see a listing for 2020 SS Nationals?
Just looked on Practiscore and could not find any info on the 2020 SS Nationals?
Give us a little more info.
Thanks,
Ron

Chris,
Sorry to hear about your breech face problems. Hope you get this taken care of soon.
Years ago I almost bought a 40sw LTD pistol until I saw pitting on the breech face, very
similar to your LB. I have not seen another one since that, but have heard of primer
blow back and breech faces being damaged. I'd give LB an opportunity to fix the
problem. Hopefully he'd replace the side on his dime. If not Clark Custom sounds
like they have done this before.

Cops, from lowly patrol to SWAT have been carrying cocked and locked 1911's for years and years. There are no safety issues with someone who has the proper training and trigger time on one. In fact it's probably more inherently safe due to the external safety. Its just as easy if not easier to set off a striker fired pistol by accident.
There are a lot of agencies that authorize /issue 1911's for duty use. While it may not have been prevalent in your area, it is in some. From West Coast to East coast. I carried a 1911 as a patrol officer for several years. Went to Glocks due to wanting to carry what my other officers carry magazine /ammo wise. My current department authorizes 1911's, in fact my Chief carries one. I just qualified with my STI and got it approved for duty use.
The "issues" with a 1911/2011 as a duty gun are mainly officer commitment, logistics and cost from my point of view. Yes it is a little more work to master. But that is a individual officer issue. A Officer dedicated to their craft and carrying one will take the time to master their weapons, whether it be a Glock , Sig , Beretta or 1911/2011. When I attended my State Firearms Instructor Class, one of the instructors stood behind me on the line for the first hour of drills, until he saw I was extremely competent with my 1911 and went somewhere else on the line. Not all officers are dedicated to dry firing, training, etc to maintain their essential skills. Those guys wont be interested in carrying a 1911/2011.
An Agency has to maintained certified armorers for the 1911/2011 system, which really isn't that hard or different from maintaining Glock certified armorers. Cost is what I consider the biggest factor. Chiefs used to seeing $300 glocks blanche upon seeing the price tag for a good duty grade 1911/2011. Finding a out of the box duty grade 1911 that's not a full custom house build right now is the bigger issue. For a time the big complaint was changing the recoil spring every 5000 rounds. Sprinco springs are going like 30,000 cycles between changes. Also, depending on the locale/region, it could be 2 years before the agency or Officer gets their pistol back after a OIS.
Safariland has been producing duty grade holsters, level 1-3 for several years for 1911/2011 pistols.Wow, we are going to have to "agree to disagree".......Be Safe Brother!

Don't eat while shooting.
Wash your hands.
Don't sweep brass.
Hey Chris,
It was good to hear from you the other day. I know you are a Doctor and I would appreciate any advise you can
give me (anyone else here reading these posts). I do not touch the banana or granola bars I eat at the range.
I wash hands, if I can't then I wipe them with a D-Lead wipe. And I do not sweep up brass. I do run the clock
too much, but since I am no longer shooting indoors, that will stop. My lead was 33.5 in Feb. Stopped shooting
indoors and did things my Dr suggested I do. Had it checked again in Aug and it had dropped to 24.9. Going to
keep up with the stuff I am doing (no indoor, wear gloves when reloading, using coated bullets, using a mask
when dumping my tumbled brass, changing shoes even from outdoor shooting and cleaning my hands with
D-Lead wipes). Will have my yearly physical in March with blood work and hoping for the lead lever to go down again.
On a side note a Shooting Buddy of mine who is 76 (I'm 70) got his lead level checked and his results were 16.
He sweeps up the brass in the indoor range we shoot at? Another BE member who may be a Doctor said that the
drop I had was no bad as lead leaves our system slowly.
Thanks,
Ron

Rich Dettelhouser used to make awesome steel frame Limited guns out of Springfield armory frames; used para mags.
Yes sir, Rich and I have been friends for years. He did a little modification to the grip to make it feel better and not so
blocky (sp). Rich is not doing much these days. Plan on doing lunch with him soon, hopefully next week.

Picked up the last Tripp Research Navigator C that Dawson Precision had. Been watching it for a while and when I called about some sights, I asked about it. They said if I was serious about it, they would knock off $200 and send me two free Dawson shirts.
So...I did it!! It arrives tomorrow. Can't wait!!
Was not familiar with that pistol and looked it up on Tripp Research. Looks like a great gun. Good luck with your purchase.
Let us all know how it works for you, etc.

A double tap is just two shots fired one after the other. In other words two single shots and like Brian said, it's shot calling.
How many times have you RO'ed a shooter who had a Stripe Target next to an Open Target? The Stripe will have two shots
in the middle fairly close together and the Open will have a center A hit and a center low C or even D hit. I don't think anyone
here is crazy, we all look at things in our own way. We see things differently. Practice until you can't get it wrong (love that

Read up Para Ordnance and if you shot the game 25 plus years ago the P-16 was the go to pistol for limited class. Remington acquired Para
I was not aware that Remington owns Para. I realized that it looked like a P-16. Also was not aware that they stopped making them.
Sounds like I need to update my brains database. I started shooting (think it was IPSC back then) competition in 1979. It is a nice looking
and shooting pistol. Hope they start making them again.......

A Shooting Buddy of mine has an all steel Remington Hi-Cap 40sw.
I got the chance to shoot it and it feels and handles very nicely.
Has a dark finish, checkered front strap, adjustable rear sight;
I think fiber optic front sight. He paid less than $1000 for it and
he uses MBX 140mm magazines. Great USPSA Limited gun.
Has anyone else had the chance to handle and shoot one of
these pistols.

Our Podiatrist has my wife use a Tennis Ball every night and I have been using shoe inserts that I get
from her office ($40 pair). The tennis ball is helping my wife (she started about a month ago) and the
inserts help my feet (I started about 3 years ago). Not only do I walk 1-2 miles daily, but I also mow my
yard every 4-5 days and push mow for 2 hours.......

After I quit smoking when I was in my mid 20's I gained weight and over the years I have gone on several different diets.
All of them worked, but as soon as I started eating regular food again, I would gain back the weight. So I just lived with
weighing a little over 200 lbs. Of course I used a lot of excuses, etc as to why I wasn't in better shape, etc. But, as I got
older, I got more frustrated with my weight. So I talked to my doctor and she said the best way is to just cut back and eat
a balanced diet. So I did what she said. I started by simply cutting back on the portion size, but basically eating the same
things, except I cut out bread, processed lunch meat and desserts . I guess that is a lot thinking back on it.
I started out on April 9th at 220 lbs (5'9") and by June 15th I had lost 40 lbs. I have kept it off and have dropped from 38"
waist pants that were tight to fitting into 34" waist pants. However, the 34 pants were a little too snug. So I tried on 36"
waist pants (Cargo Pants) and they fit well (Wrangler; Wal-Mart). I was 69 when I lost the weight and I did not go to a
health club and work out, but I did do a 2 mile walk per day, walking as quickly as I could. My wife has lost 16 lbs and we
are going to join a health club at our local hospital. My goal was 40 lbs and many of you have said, having a goal helps
you get to where you want to be. Now I want to tighten up my loose skin and make my love handles smaller.
If anyone has advise to help with the loose skin, etc please let me know; not to old to learn.......

I believe that Rimfire practice is a great way to practice. The Outdoor Club I belong to has several bays with Steel Plate Racks
and they are easily adjusted where a 22 round will knock them down. I know that dry fire practice is great, but if you can make
it to the range and practice with 22's as part of your regular practice, it will help with sight picture and trigger control and transitions.
I even include a couple of USPSA targets in addition to the plate racks, so you get to practice double taps on paper. Have fun with it.......
