  1. Well, tried the blue, but I didn't really see any obvious ohhh there it is kind of areas. I am really bumming at this point. One thing I did find out, brake cleaner will not remove dykem, but hoppies #9 does  so there's a data point for you. Opinions? Ideas?

Also, fyi dykem once it dries is like a really hard laquer, fwiw compared to sharpie.

And because I had my camera and it was asked earlier, I believe this is polygonal....

  2. Is there anything binding the barrel back towards the muzzle? Had some debris once between the top of the barrel and the slide that made the barrel difficult to get out. Wound up just dropping the whole slide into a solbent bath and that loosened it up. Turned out to be brass shavings and my slide grease.

    Best of luck.

I don't think so, but I will look next time. Barrel and slide have not been shot except it appears as a test???? Cleaning the barrel after trying the blue, the patch came out like I had shot it (which I have not).

  3. You can put the new barrel in the old slide, it should fit with no problems. I would bet the barrel lug is actually too wide, no too low. Get hold of some calipers and compare the new barrel to the old.

So I sat down and tried some combinations.....

Lug fits in the frame no issue on the new barrel outside of the slide. Barrel won't fit into the old slide as far as locking with the lugs in the slide so that is a no go. The takedown pin will go through the lug with the barrel naked. It appears that the barrel and new slide are possibly not fully fitted and so the barrel is not camming all the way up, this prevents me from getting the takedown pin through because it shows up as the lug being too low. Aren't the conversion kits fitted together barrel and slide????? I was under the impression the only fitting to be done on my end is to fit the slide to the frame. Looking at where the barrel hood vs the top of the slide is on the new conversion slide looks like there is clearance where on the factory .40 slide it is all a tight fit. These conversion slides are more of a pain than I thought it would be.

  4. Thanks for the pictures! So looks just like a Match slide except the sides. Anyone know if the bluing can be polished shiny there?

    Standard barrel or Polygonal?

Polishing removes metal so the bluing would be long gone before the sides got smooth, it would be a cool two tone look though. To do it right you would need to strip the finish off the entire slide, polish the sides, then re blue the whole thing.

And my money's on standard rifling.

My .40 has standard cut rifling, but looking down the barrel of the new .45 it appears to have polygonal rifling

  5. So I have another question / issue. I tried the slide on with the barrel in place and can't get the slide stop to go back into the gun. It appears the barrel lug is too low. If I am understanding how this works, if I fit the barrel lug to the pin height, wouldn't that possibly cause the barrel to sit low and not lock up properly? I haven't tried putting the new barrel in my old slide, but is there any issues I could have by doing that?

  6. The 9mm barrel probably has the same size barrel outer diameter. That would make the barrel heavier in a 9mm. How much, I don't know.

The 9mm barrel weighs 4.5 oz.

Someone needs to weigh some of the other calibers!

I will weigh my barrel the next time I have the gun out.

  7. I feel like a sticky with model, caliber, defining features, and length, width, height of tangfoglio models as measured by owners would be a valuable resource, as I have not purchased other models because I didn't think they would fit, weight too much etc, all based on EAA's catalog.

  8. Lapping compound

Reading on Brownells that seemed like the thing to do. But when I looked on youtube for videos of people doing this, they were lapping a new slide to a new frame by putting the compound on the rails and then running the slide in the frame until it no longer bound. I would assume this would cause the frame to slide fit of the .40 cal upper that is stock with my gun to become more loose no?

  9. So I sent out my parts last week and got my new slide and a correct magazine (another issue I had failed to mention) last night. It is blue this time like I asked for. Actually I am not sure I would call it blued. More cerikoted or something like it.

Anyway I can get the barrel out of this one no issue, however unlike the first slide this one doesn't just slip on. It will go on the frame but only with some protest. I did put it on dry (probably a bad idea, galling etc) but now I can see the high spots where the finish went away quickly.

Any tips on how to finish fitting this the last 3% or so? My local gunsmith won't touch it because he says he just isn't familiar with the CZ / witness platform. Seems a little simplified to me.

  10. My witness match barely fits in the box. My understanding is the limited frames bevertail extends the gun to over the limit by more than a little. EAA lists the OAL as 9" IIRC. That said I have never had the chance to handle or measure one in person so I trust the people who have them more than EAA. You could shoot it in ESP right now though correct? Assuming you fixed the safety width issue.
