Does the crown look different on the new vs old, 5" barrel?
-
More for reference...
3 Apex USB's, the one in the center is the newest.
This is the reason I became interested in the trigger bar assemblies in the first place. I received an Apex kit that looked a little different than what I had seen before. Just a guess, but it looks like the new USB is in response to the H stamped trigger assembly. With the more aggressive trigger loop, the striker block would need to be disengaged sooner. Hence, the light strike and peening posts of late.
Avedis, I also had a gritty trigger pull, only with the newest Apex USB. Initially thought it was caused by the USB, but I agree that the problem is small imperfections on the trigger bar. They become more noticeable with the newest USB, as the engagement angle has changed. I just want the absolute best trigger on all of my guns. Is that too much to ask?

I ordered some trigger bar assemblies from SSS, and just wanted to throw this up for reference...
H stamp (top) has a trigger safety angled more in to the frame, and makes slight contact during pull. S stamp (bottom) does not contact the frame during pull.
H stamped loop is more aggressively angled and taller than the S stamped loop.
H stamped assembly has a 1 marked on the trigger.
S stamped assembly has a 2 marked on the trigger.

Interesting. The smooth one I have has no stamp. The pair of rough ones have the H stamp.
Thanks for the info.

Does anybody know how the latest revision of the trigger bar assembly differs from previous versions?
I've got some pistols that have a trigger bar with a more steep trigger bar loop, a heavier weight trigger safety hinge spring, and a sharper angle on the trigger safety "catch." These triggers tend to clip the frame unless you pull from the very tip of the trigger.
Then one of my pistols has a trigger bar with a less steep trigger bar loop, a lighter weight trigger safety hinge spring, and a noticeably less angle on the trigger safety "catch." This one feels MUCH better than the others.
I'm trying to figure out if this second type is what will ship to me if I order a trigger bar assembly. Thanks!

If I were going to run an M&P in Limited I would throw a flashlight on it, but I like heavy guns. It would add way more weight than a tungsten guide rod.
Unfortunately, it's not permitted.

44mag.com has some reasonably priced 40sw magazines in stock, and some not so reasonably priced 9mm magazines in stock.

Fiber rods eventually break. You'll need a replacement fiber rod and a heat source, like a lighter or a candle.
I think you'll need a 0.06" rod. Also, check youtube for detailed videos on how to install. But in a nutshell, melt one end of the tube so that it mushrooms, install through the sight, cut to size, melt the other end. It should fit tight, any movement will allow the sight to essentially beat itself to breakage under recoil. And even a tight fitting rod can eventually loosen from the heat and break. Best to keep spare rods.

hey guys just fyi Southern gun world & police supply in Midlothian Va. has used M&P 40 mags (police trade-ins) for $14.95. I just bought 2 when I got my M&P 40 the other day so I have 5 mags total. now for mag pouches and holster. hmmm..LOL
Thanks for the heads up!

If I were you I would take a small brass hammer and give the ejector a little tap on the top of it to "adjust" it down just enough to clear the slide. If you remove the retainer plate at the back of the slide you can sight through the ejector channel and see how much clearance you have.
Hey thanks, much better idea!

M&P barrels widen slightly at the muzzle end. You can see it without use of any measuring tools. The wide part of the 5" will completely stick out of a 4.25" slide, and the front of your barrel will not lock up as tightly as it's intended to. So it will probably fire, but it may not be safe and probably won't be as consistent.

Welp, scratch that. It's not letting me get my picture posting on. Here is the link to view them instead...

Yes, the roll pin is in place. I'll get a picture up after work. I think I could probably just "trim a little off the top" with a rotary tool, but I'm not attempting that until I find a spare ejector.
-
Has anyone else experienced this? I purchased a second-hand, but virtually new M&P9L Pro, and the slide and ejector make contact. There are some nice rub marks where the finish is being removed from the slide, and the ejector is being ground down.

I use 2 of the Blade Tech double mag carriers in production (4 mags on my belt + 1 in the pistol).
-
The Apex DCAEK and CAEK are production legal so long as you retain the stock trigger. And unless something has changed since this ruling (http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-NROI-ruling-details.php?indx=49), it appears that the Apex RAM is also production legal...?
-
Definitely worth it, installed the USB in both my full size and Pro. Still not a completely smooth trigger but got rid of 90% of the grit.
Agreed. The USB will eliminate most of the grit and the "hump" in the trigger pull. Adding the Apex hard sear will clean up what's left and shorten the reset.

I use a Blade Tech Revolution holster w/tek-lok and Revolution mag pouches w/tek-lok. There are probably better options, but these are cheap, allow me to play at USPSA & IDPA games, and I'm not good enough to justify anything better.

I found this a while back...

I doubt it. Very specific models are listed, and anytime a certain inclusion is to be assumed, a brief phrase is written about it.
I do wonder if maybe the 40L lacked the minimum production amount of 2000...? I seem to see a lot of CORE models, but maybe they haven't cranked out 2000 of each variant yet? Who knows, but I do hope they stay on top of it. It seems rather lazy to design a competition pistol and forget to get it approved for competition.

In theory, it would allow the use of lighter loads. This could be beneficial in a game like Steel Challenge. Also, it could serve as an escape route for gas on a ported barrel. This could be beneficial in Open division shooting 9 major.

What's the difference between a 'regular' M&P and a Pro model?
Pro Series M&P's come with fiber sights, a long slide option, a different sear, better textured grips, and Pro Series markings on the slide. The CORE adds a machined slide and tall dot sights to that.
The trigger in my 40L Pro was the worst of the 3 M&P's I've owned. I consider the Apex USB & hard sear to be necessary purchases for every M&P. So unless you want the longer slide and/or milled slide...the rest is swappable IMO.
-
I don't think the CORE models are listed on the approved Production List.
I was facing this exact decision a few months back. Unless you plan to shoot open, the milled slide really offers no benefit. Since I planned to shoot 40 major in Limited, just the standard 5" Pro Series seemed like the better option to me. There are a lot of sights available for the standard slide, and so far as I know, only Dawson offers sights for the CORE. If you like the Novak fiber sights that come standard on the 5" Pro Series, that's even more money you will save.
The internals should be identical. S&W seems pretty hit or miss with their updated components. Supposedly they've got a new improved trigger with a clicky reset, but I have yet to see one. The 5" Pro 40 I recently picked up has an older style sear housing, while a FS 9 I've had a while has the newest sear housing & the updated barrel. Go figure?
Latest version trigger bar...
