  1. Revisit your photo from the op, the hole is farther forward in the original plastic MSH from the problem grip this would move a mag well forward on the grip because the mag well is located by the pin. This would make the fit (between mag well and MSH/grip) tight at the rear when you install a 'normal' mag well on your problem grip.

  2. Yeah, I am concerned as well. I imagine it will effect the fit of not only the MSH but, magwells too.

I am sure the aftermarket will eventually support this change by offering parts that are compatible but, not without growing pains. EGW (as of now, anyway) has no intention of offering a MSH that is compatable with the new hole location. George sited potential issues with confusion about which version of the grip the customer has. I imagine there would be problems and I understand his possition.

Please keep us updated with STI's response. Were you emailing with Rabbit, he is STI_Rep? He has always helped me out, with the few issues I've had.

Maybe they have a good reason for the change.

I dug up my thread on the 1911forum also...

  3. Have you heard from STI yet?

I stopped by EGW today, to pick up another part. George said he spoke with the folks from STI @ the shot show about the hole position in the grip and they admitted to moving it a few months ago. I asked if he knew of anyone making a steel MSH that fits the new version of the grip and he said STI was planning to, in the future...

  4. They must be busy. The only time I called STI, I called their main # (5128190656), asked to speak to tech support and they answered my question right away.

Just for the record, this is the exact issue I asked them about. October, last year.

Hopefully they get back to you soon. I wonder if others have run into this? Please let us know the outcome.

    Edited to add:

Are you a member on the 1911forum.com? The STI_Rep is on there regularly. I started a thread in the STI/SVI section, I got nothing. The thread is titled "MSH pin location" it's in the STI/SVI sub section. I tried posting a link but, that wasn't working for me (from my POS phone)

  5. Sorry I'm late

I had exactly the same problem with a grip on an STI I received late last year. EGW steel MSH hole didn't line up with the hole in the grip. I asked around, no one else ever had this problem... I called STI, they said: "our grip has been the same for 20 years..."

So I bought another STI grip for another project (these things are addictive) the aftermarket MSH hole lines up on that grip...

I figured STI probably drills through the MSH and grip together and they probably had a bad batch. We both got one

  6. I wasn't trying to start a war. I know people have them and love them, I thought it's what I wanted also. I was just sharing what I was told by one of this forum's supporting vendors when I contacted them about building a custom 2011 for carry. I still haven't owned a sight tracker personally and would most likely not shoot tens of thousands of rounds through it, if I did. Feel free to disregard my contribution and go with what you know from experience or advice from those with more experience (than me).

  7. I thought I wanted something similar until I spoke directly with one of the pro's on here. He advised against a sight tracker. He said when the cut is made in the slide it allows the area where the the barrel contacts during lock up to flex, causing inconsistent lock up and potentially hurting accuracy. He said: if I wanted a sight tracker, he could build it but felt a conventional bull barrel would be a better choice. Just thought I would pass along what I was told...
