  1. I returned the Metalforms and Dawsons, and I purchased Wilson Combat elite tactical 10rd mags. It appears as if these are going to do the job. Thank you for all the advice. Tim

  3. I tried the Dawson mags, the design of the lips won't allow the slide on my RIA to close completely. It's kind of strange, the 9 round Metalforms I purchased for the pistol, and the one that came with it, have a completely different style feed lip than the 10 round Dawson/Metalform. The upper mag in the photo is the Metalform 9 round, and the lower mag is the Dawson/Metalform 10 round. There's clearly a difference in the design. The RAI's slide won't close completely on the 10 round mag. Has anyone experienced this? Is this a common anomaly with 10 round mags, or is there one out there closer to the design of the Metalform 9 round mag feed lips?
  4. Yeah, I hate to take a file to a new $38 magazine. I'm going to return the Dawson's and order Metalform 10 rounds mags. The 9 round Metalform's work, so I'm thinking the 10 round mags should work also. Thanks for the advice!
  5. 2nd mag photo. Bottom mad is the Dawson. There is a difference in the lips.
  6. Here's a couple more pictures. In both pictures the Dawson mag is on the left. The mags on the right are Metalform.
  7. The slide closes fine on the magazine that came with the gun, and the two Metalform 9-round magazines I purchased. I have attached a photo of the pistol's slide. The slide won't close completely, and it's jammed. Almost as if the magazine goes into the pistol too far.
  8. So I ordered a couple Dawson Precision 9mm 10 round magazines for the Rock Island 1911. DP 1911 9mm 10 Round Stainless Steel Magazine with Tactical Standard Basepad, Black #001019 The pistol's slide won't close on these magazines. The label on the package says they're for standard magwells. Did I order the wrong mags? Is there something I'm missing? I'm guessing it's something simple. Thanks for the help! Tim
  9. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If I get bit by the bug hard, I can always buy another gun, or have this one modified.
  10. Barney up??? What does that mean? (New guy.)
  11. Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to give the Dawson's a try. Will there be any use for the (3) 8 round magazines I already have?
  12. Thanks for all the advice! I've ordered an Uncle Mike's holster and mag pouch from Amazon, and magazines from Dawson. That should get things started.
  13. Are there any online vendors stocking Uncle Mike's kydex holsters? Or are they all depleted like all other things firearms related?
  14. So the gun with empty mag can weigh nor more than 43 oz. Looks like I need to borrow a postal scale.
  15. Grand Rapids area. My plan was to start shooting on Dorr.
  16. Great, I can use the 9mm 1911 for USPSA Single-Stack!!! What 10-round magazines do you use in your 9mm 1911? Thanks, Tim
  17. Wow, that was fast! Looks like it's time to buy a holster, and have a fiber-optic sight installed on the RIA. The fiber-optic really helps the rapidly approaching 50 year old eyes. I've got them on both my 22lr and 45acp Bullseye pistols. Thanks for the advice!
  18. Hi Folks, New guy from Michigan. Most of my trigger time is spent at Bullseye Pistol. I'd like to expand my pistol shooting to USPSA. I'm quite fond of the 1911 pistol, and would like to start USPSA with my 9mm 1911. I hope to get some advice and guidance from this forum. Tim
  19. I recently purchase a Rock Island Armory 1911 in 9mm and I'd like to use it for USPSA. I've got a few questions I was hoping I could get some help/advice with. Would the stock 1911 be considered a Single-Stack Division gun? Does anyone use a RIA 1911 for USPSA? For starters my USPSA activities would be purely hobby. I realize the stock gun would need work for serious competition. Are there any divisions where a fiber-optic front sight is legal? Do you have any 1911 holster recommendations for USPSA competition? Any advise you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tim
