  1. Yes some guys make stuff up... but not this guy, found some video of it. The first one is one of the guys I knew at the match, the second was me. It was a long time ago and it was all in good fun and no feelings were hurt. I would gladly go to an IDPA match with the appropriate equipment.

  2. I was at a local indoor range sighting in my 38SC open gun and saw an IDPA match going on in the next bay over. Asked them if I could try and surprisingly they let me. Stage procedure was something like make ready, then they turn off the lights, illuminate the targets with your flashlight and shoot them in order with 2 reloads for most. I got some muscle memory on the first target drew in the dark and lit the range up with my comp beat them all by nearly 1min. score keeper said F-ing awesome, but her are 10 penalties for not illuminating the targets first... I said well how did I get all my hits then? Bagged my gun and walked out with a smirk on my face while everyone was talking about it. I still hear about it when I go to that range.

  3. And to add a little more to the discussion...

Benny Hill just finished a 9 major open gun for me. Should be delivered today. I'd sent him 4 SV tubes to fit to the gun. What he told me was that he got a 140 and a 170 to fit, but sweated over the other two 140 tubes for some time without success. He said that the width and depth dimensions were just too large to be fit to an STI frame, so he swapped them out for STI tubes.

Perhaps 6 months ago, I got 4 tubes from SV and had Doug Jones fit them to another STI framed open gun which he did with apparently no major problems. So it makes me wonder if something has changed with the later run of tubes.

I belive the change is in the STI frames, I think they are now beefed up in that area.

  4. I was able to round up a bunch of 155gr lead round nose bullets and need some load data recommendations. This is for a 6" limited gun and I wish to shoot major. I will be using WSR primers and WSF, TG, or N320. Any help would be appreciated. The lube ring hides itself at about 1.200 but that seamed way to long with that profile. I will work on length a little more when I get home, but I am guessing it will need to be much shorter in this gun.

    Thanks,

  5. When I reply using "More Reply Options" in Firefox (even after cache clearing) I can't use any of the text tools, emoticons, etc. It's all grayed out.

Disregard my last post...there is a little square box in top left corner of editor that turns on/off the editor features. Found it.

I can only post if I quote someone then come back and edit the post.

  6. Went and ate Chinese food after the match yesterday and this was my fortune. Thought it fit very well into the world of racing firearms.

I got one that was blank once...

  7. We had some hairy weather at Area 6 this weekend. I found a local Wally World and picked up a $3 poncho which turned into a great investment during the next day's storm. Get some trash bags or a cover for your bag and a shower cap for your gun as well.

Get a wet suit and sew belt loops on it if you are the fastest guy there the local dive shop will be sold out of XL suites by next match.

  8. folks,

so I really want to start shooting open. Now I don't reload, so which caliber and which gun do you recommend that I can use with both major and minor (factory) loads when I can't get my hands on major loads?

It doesn't sound like you need a working comp, how about an open .40?

  9. I used the biggest Pro Ears for years, linear elite. But recently one of the battery leads broke and it was too old for Pro Ears to fix. So, I bought the Peltor ears for $60. My ears have been ringing for several months, so I used my Pro Ears yesterday, though only one side "worked". My ears did ring any louder last night, they actually ring less today.

So, I'd buy Pro Ears, or something with a 30 SV db rating or higher.

My ears ring horribly, sounds like when the TV station does the emergency broadcast… only all the time. The doc’s I’ve been to think medications, like Advil, or medication in combination with caffeine are the main contributors not noise, all though I worked flight line for years.
