Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I need to get to town and get some more powder, then I'll go trough the adjustment process again. i am using lee dies, and only had to lock down the sizing die under the toolhead. all the rest are locked in on top. I didn't know lee would make a seater insert for specific bullets. i should do this, as most of what I shoot in .40 IS TCFP.
  2. about the OAL...the thing is that the loadmaster I used to use sucked at priming, but the OAL was always spot on. sseems the xl650 should be too. it is dillon precision, right? anything I can do to improve it?
  3. after running about 750 rounds in 2 calibers(9mm and .40), I've noticed a couple of small issues that I would like some help with: 1. Shell plate shoulder bolt seems to want to back out, loosening up every 100 rounds or so. It did this before and after I added the mcmaster-carr bearing mod. Is there a way to prevent this? 2. My OAL seems to vary about .005 on either side of where I want it. Not a huge deal for range ammo, n=but would likeit to be more spot on. Set all my dies with shells in the shellplate, and they don't seem to be moving. Is this an issue that the Uniquetek toolhead clamping kit can fix, or is there something else I need to be looking at? perhaps machined toolheads? some other simple fix that I am overlooking?
  4. Got a new xl 650 to replace my finicky, touchy, frustrating, infuriating...Lee loadmaster. What a difference. I can feel the primer seat, and every primer seats properly, and at the right depth. try that with a loadmaster. The primer tube fill-up is a bit annoying - I think Lee has one up on everyone with the way their primer system loads, but definitely not worth it when you take into account the exceptionally poor manner in which the Lee device slides primer onto the ram and seats them. I made and end to end run on 200 9mm stopping only long enough to add more cases and more primers. I have never been able to make a full run end to end with the lee press without stopping to fix some random foul-up, typically primers missing, seated sideways, or missing. I think this press will be perfect when I get the case feeder set up and a bullet feeder. I am leaning towards the $28 bullet feeder set up until someone comes out with a less expensive bullet feeder(perhaps budgetreloader)... Been lurking here for a little while, and all gleaned a lot of great tips. Thanks. I did tape up the primer cup(will probably fit a tube at some point, but didn't lose a single spent primer to the floor. I also put a small piece of clear tube over the end of the ski-jump for live primers, and clipped 3/4 turn off the ball detent spring under the shellplate. I sill get a little bit of spilled powder, but I think thats due to the AA#2 fine powder, than to the press mechanics. I do have a bearing and washers on the way from mcmaster-carr. Anything I missed?
