  1. Has anyone changed out the fiber optic bead on one yet?

Doesn't seem to pick up much light.

I agree, I'm thinking about doing this also. Anyone have any experience with the HiViz sights on a shotty? Setup like a pistol with the front and rear sights?

Any of the do-it yourself loading port guys having any issues with the stock lifter? It seems like I'd get a pretty good bite using the stock lifter and that it will only be worse when I start filing the gun down.

Finally, how big of a PITA is it to tap and drill a hole for an extended bolt release?

You shouldnt have to do anything to install the extended bolt release. We will be doing an install video in the next week or so with Taran Tactical parts. Including the bolt release, safety and an attenpt to make a new charging handle and lift gate work.

I'll keep an eye out for the video, make sure to post in here when it's complete.

As for the bolt release, isn't a drill and tap required for all brands?

  3. I got a 3500 and took it clay shooting today to start breaking it in and it was a jam-o-matic with the Federal Target Loads. Not impressed so far.

For those that opened up there loading port is the stock lifter long enough? I was looking at it today and it seemed as if I'd torch my finger on it during the reload.

There is a thread below specifically addressing the 3500. As I recall, the manual says not to go under 1-1/4oz on the 3-1/2 inch gun. Also, they usually have a light coat of cosmoline type grease on them from the factory which is pretty sticky, so it needs to be disassembled, cleaned, and oiled before use. When it jammed, did the empty eject, but next round failed to load? If that is the case, it means the shells have insufficient recoil to operate the gun. The bolt is not traveling rearward far enough to actuate the lifter. If that is not what it is doing, can you describe it? Often they will work with shells less than minimum recommended, but the manual says to break it in a couple hundred rounds with full-power loads. It also helps to store it with the bolt locked back to compress the spring for the first week or two.

Edit- just checked the other thread, and with a cleaned, oiled, and broken in 3500 it looks like 1-1/8 at 1200fps seems to be the low limit of cycling. My 3000 will go 1oz loads at that velocity, but it is only a 3inch chambered gun. It is a balancing act with the 3.5in guns, if they cycle with too light of loads, they beat themselves to death on the big shells.

Yea it was ejecting but not bringing in the next round. I'll give it a good scrub and lube and try to loosen up that spring and hopefully it runs better.

  5. I'm a new 3g'er, just bought a DPMS 3G1 to get into the sport. My question is what mags do you guys have in your shooting bag? Which kind (brand), capacity (20rd,30rd,larger), and QTY. A list would be awesome!

    Something like this:

    Magpul (20 rd) x2

    Magpul (40 rd) x1 etc...

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Anyone have any issues fitting the swenson grip safety into the USPSA box? I bought an IDPA box to see if I can make the gun work for IDPA, and it doesn't fit in the box. To my surprise though the lid is catching on the safety, not the dawson ice magwell as I thought it would. Just want to make sure before I drive out to WSSC with an illegal gun.

  7. Saw someone with some extensions to his bladetech holster for USPSA SS. Of course since the drop isn't allowed, all it does is move the gun out farther away from your body but maintains the 2'' rule. Is someone making a product like this or did he just rig it up at the local hardware store, wasn't able to ask.

    Thanks,

  8. I'm in a course this weekend with Gordon Carrell (who might I add is an awesome teacher), you don't need to slow down my friend, you need to shoot a smoother match with less wasted motion so that you can spend the time to be smooth in certain area's, while speed up the less critical area's (not wording this last part correct, and SA is going to be me with a hose because of it)(maybe less technique dependent area's). Did I mention how awesome his class is so far?

I am by far an expert, but have been getting smacked across the head :), for saying I need to shoot slower. That's the take away I guess I'm trying to get across.

  9. Yes, end with finger on trigger, prepped is good. You want to do EVERYTHING just up to pulling the bangmaker with yer boogerhook.

That way, when you transition to live fire, all you have to do is send it.

    Thanks!

    Steve,

Thanks for your input in this thread. I have your book, but found this discussion just as helpful.

Agree, it's awesome to create such a great product, but even cooler with the support you provide on it.

    Thanks Steve!

  10. My 2 piece is how you describe the length. Can you get the bushing to turn if you assemble the slide when removed from the frame? Sometimes it will allow the guide rod to ride higher on the link and get you the extra .1 you need.

If it where mine, I would probably hit it with a file and shorten it. Just gives you more options if the gun ever seizes and you can't take the top end off to disassemble it.

So I finally got it assembled by doing the above. Installing all slide components before putting it on the frame. Thanks for the help. It's going to the gunsmith soon, and I'll see if they can take some off the guide rod.

  11. I have to be doing something wrong here. I ordered the above part and still can't get the full length guide rod to work. The bushing clears the spring cap but not the guide rod. Did I buy the wrong length guide rod? Does it need to be fitted. It only is about .1 of an inch to long to clear the bushing.
