  1. that is a 38 spl gun IIRC. I'd be careful not to shoot overly hot loads. The published data says you should be seeing closer to 800 fps with that load. Do you have any factory ammo you can shoot over the chrono to verify ? How easily are the cases extracting ? Sticking cases will be your first sign of too much pressure. And for the OAL, are you seating it to the center of the cannalure ? Your OAL looks a tad long. Not seeing any sticking...as far as cannalure- with the Montana Gold 142gr yellow bullet, there is not a channel, but there is a ridged area would that be considered the cannalure? When the round is finished the ridged area is outside the casing. should I set the bullet a little deeper? How much does OAL affect velocity? I know that the pressure goes up as bullet is set deeper. Maybe I need to back off on the charge, set the bullet deeper and check the velocity?
  2. I use them for 9mm and .45 I have had no issues, and they are more accurate than I am.
  3. Hi all- New here, but have been watching from the wings for some time- I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I did a search, but only found one or two references and not exactly what I need- Trying to make 105pf for IDPA out of a 4" revolver for SSR. I'm using Monatana Gold 142gr "yellow" bullets, but I have not been successful getting them to go fast enough. Here is what I have tried so far: Powder- Win231 Charge- 4.1gr OAL- 1.495 Average FPS- 575 PF- 82 Powder- Win 231 Charge- 4.5gr OAL- 1.495 Average FPS- 585 ***did have some that were over 600 PF- 83 It is really weird that I only pushed them a little faster even with .3gr more? I am not sure if I should switch powders and start over or if I can safely go higher with the Win231. According to the load data that I have seen, I am getting pretty much to the top end. It is difficult to find data for 142gr, but I have seen lots for 140gr. Does anyone load this particular bullet or have some insight? Please forgive me for stupid questions (at least the first time) Thanks in advance!
