  1. I personally don't want EVERY gun owner on a stage with me.wink.gif I mean, really, have you seen some of these guys walking around at gun shows??eatdrink.gif

I think the sport is doing just fine. Those that want to find it, will find it. I did.

I have to agree. Sure a little more interest would be good to up the game a little. But there is a sector of the gun community that should just stick to shooting at the pile of toilets in their backyard from the couch on their porch if u know what i mean.

  2. Heres my production piece. Obviously the TLR3 comes off for matches. Bone stock except skateboard tape and removed the mag safety.

5.11 tactical TDU double-duty belt, fobus dual mag holder (soon to be replaced), 2 tactical kydex holders (2 more are on their way) bladetech holster.

  3. You're not seeing the sights. Timing drills to begin with: http://www.doublealpha.biz/tip_burkett.htm#Timing%20Drills

And if you find that you're still not able to consistently shoot Alphas, play with your grip. IMO, most of the grip pressure from the support hand should be lateral, so you'd want to move your finger off the trigger guard and quit worrying about placing your thumb on the slide release and then squeeze your support hands fingers to the palm (just think of your shooting hand and the grip as being in the way of that action).

OP i have a similar problem but ive just been slowly pushing towards faster pairs and it has helped a bit.

Thanks for this link that drill sounda intresting. I like his approach to teaching.

  4. I understand the idea of layers of safety, and i understand how important these lessons are. But theres no denying that this was a d move. Sounds like she barely broke the thinnest layer of safety rules amd youre just anal!

  5. Congratulations! There are a few older guys at the clubs i shoot at and ill tell ya they make up for being a little slower by being very consistent shooters.

Im just getting started in competition at age 33. I too have cross eye dominance issues and all around bad eyesight. And since im a carpenter u can add knee, elbow, and back issues as well. None of them are crippling yet but theyre slowly catching up with me.

I havent shot a classifier yet, dont even know where or when to do it, but im not expecting much. C or B would be awesome.

Hopefully ill be expeienced enough to compensate for my physical problems by the time they catch up to me.

  6. But yeah what OP says makes sense from a tactical stand point. However in competition youre typically focusing on perfecting one gun, and thumbing the release seems faster to me. Ive gotten in the habit of doing it anyway with my m&p just incase it decides to stick when i slap a mag in. Hasnt happened yet but atleast i know my tyumb naturally goea there anyway.

  7. I too am curious about the unlocking issue. Im fairly new to handguns. My accuracy with my m&p 9 fs is decent but somewhat inconsistent at times. When i rest my wrists on a bench and very slowly and carefully shoot at 25 yds i get nice 3 - 4" groups (acceptable imho) but atleast 1 or 2 flyers per 17 shots, sometimes more.

Its hard to tell if its me or not. I hate to be one of those guys who thinks everything is the guns fault but if theres a problem i want to fix it. I want the only accuracy issue to be me and not my gun.

As for my POI, its exactly what i want. Right behind the dot to 5yds...top of the post to 10 yds...above the sight to 25 or 30yds....then slowly back down. In this config it means youll be "close enough" well beyond 30 yds which i personally love.

For the record i mainly shoot 115gr federal. Worth noting that i shot 50rds of LAX reloads and was extremely accurate and consistent.

  8. I feel the same way as OP. Though both matches are fairly close to me so thats not a concern. I will continue to shoot IDPA for awhile but i think as i progress in USPSA i will start to focus more on that. My IDPA club does the best they can for an indoor range but its just not the same. It seems like a lot of waiting and alot of arbitrary rules for such a small amount of shooting.

  9. Dry fire reload practice front to back. Over and over in front of mirror until it becomes instinctive and requires no concious thought. Do you practice your reloads from just the first magazine?

This^. Ive only shot 2 matches so far so im no expert. But i have done some dry reload practicing and found that it came very natural during matches. My reloads are still a little slow and clumsy but my hand found each one quickly and easily thanks to the bedroom practice.

  10. Interesting. Ill have to try this. I think its worth noting that this probably only works for someone who has practiced drawing enough to have it in muscle memory.

I bet this could apply to other things as well, like reloading on the move, etc.

    Thanks for sharing.

  11. Hey folks, Im Ryan from Fresno California. Ive been shooting off and on for years but just recently got serious about it this year. Ive done 1 idpa and 1 uspsa match and plan to continue doing both regularly.

So many google searches have brought me to this forum that i figured i should just join!
