Thanks for all of the help. I will wait to get the correct magazines before continuing the work on the barrel.
The current situation in the world has freed up some of my time unfortunately. I was looking to tidy this project up with what I had. I'll have to reach into my bag patience and see what I have left. LOL

This is a new barrel/build. I am using Wilson 47's for now. If I get it to feed from a Wilson 47 will it still feed from a 40 magazine? I may switch to the Tripp magazines at some point and try SS in 40 minor. I may just be way over thinking this but I didn't want to wreck a $200 barrel. This is my first try at building a 1911. So far everything has gone smoothly and I'm hoping to keep it that way.

I am working on a 1911 in .40 and I am to the point where I am working the feed ramp of the barrel. With just a little bit of possible polishing I got it to feed long loaded (1.170") 40's from a 45 magazine. I don't mind loading long but I have a couple of other 40's that will only accept OAL's up to 1.150"
My question is this, should I get some 40 magazines before continuing to work the feed ramp should I want to load regular length 40's?
Thanks for any help.

with red dot and coated bullets, I got 170 pf with 4.3 gr and 1.15 oal. use a couple tenths more for plated or jacketed.
Similar results as this for me. Makes major in all of my 40s

I had to replace the spring the cap and the pin when I put an Ice mag well on my RO. The factory MSH had the safety lock stuff in it that isn’t standard issue 1911 spec

I was checking these out as well. I wanted an alternative to a Springfield RO in 9mm and came across these. The Reaction is in the same price range but seemed to have some better features. Let us know what you think if you get one.

I got one from ZEV a few years back. I'm not sure if they still make then though.

I'm not sure how these comments contribute to the conversation about production legal modifications to a Glock.and these now "production" legal mods won't make any difference in score.
bolt ons won't ever trump skill.
I am thinking about getting rid of the finger grooves. I currently use grip tape and I think I'll continue to for this season. I might do some stippling next year.

I ordered some of the MecGar MGP1416015B mags and the Taylor Freelance basepads as well as the Fattie magwell. As stated at the Gregcote the mags hit the factory magwell. With the new TF basepads they fit just fine with the factory magwell. I haven't put the TF magwell on yet but it is pretty big. Reloads should be effortless. I'm real excited to try this set up out.

Wow! It took me more than an hour to read this entire thread. Entertaining. This year I am going to try out PRD. I don't see the rules changes as a deal breaker for me. As a CRO, it will make it a little easier on the enforcement side of the rules. On the competitor side, they don't bother me at all. I am only out to have fun when I shoot. I don't get bent out of shape when I shoot a bad stage but I do have a smile when I shoot a good one. Rules are rules. I don't see the point in getting upset in these changes. They didn't exclude your $200 Glock trigger, They didn't make aftermarket sights illegal. They didn't cost you any money. I think that half of the fun is tinkering around with the gun to get it how YOU want it. You could take out your box stock plastic pistol and shoot in PRD if you wanted to. Now if you were an individual that was trying to get to GM with an out of the box Glock, XD, M&P because you were hung up the the title Production, I could see the aggravation. I would say work harder and show everyone that it is possible. I would love to watch a box stock Glock win a national match.

Guess I'll try it out before sending it back

Aw crap. No big deal. I should be able to return it and get the STI version

I got the Para hi cap mag release from Dawson. Just haven't tried it yet. Should I have gotten the regular STI mag release instead?

No, unfortunately I'm looking for 40's. Everyone was touting the Gregcote site when I bought the gun. Now they aren't in stock.
For the 9mm I'm guessing? My LGS ordered them from one of his suppliers back in the spring. It took a while for them to be in stock anywhere.

Where did you find the Mec-Had mags? I've been looking everywhere. I bought 3 STI mags to tinker with but it looks like that will be a chore.I recently added a .40 Pro Match to my current RIA stable. I've had a single stack .45 for a couple years and use it when I shoot heavy metal class in 3 gun. It had some teething pains when it was new, but has been very good since then. About a year ago, I added a Tac Ultra HC in 9mm and immediately sent it to Hayes Custom Guns for the full treatment. I've been shooting it since February in 3 gun and using it for limited minor in USPSA, including Area 1 and the Iron Sight Nationals this year. The gun has been practically flawless using MBX mags and the factory mag that Hayes modified/tuned with a Dawson extension and Arredondo insert. I bought 2 Mec-Gar mags and did my best to duplicate what Hayes did and now I can't tell the 3 apart and all run perfectly. I usually use those 3 if they are going to get dropped in something nasty, or if I stoop to shooting a local IDPA match, as they will still lock the slide when empty. I bought the .40 about a month ago off the classified section here. It was advertised as having upgraded internals and a trigger job, and came with 5 factory/Mec-Gar mags with Dawson extensions and Arredondo springs and followers, but not the purple inserts. I learned the hard way on the 9mm mags that without the inserts, you have a salt shaker if you load past the original capacity, so I ordered 5 more inserts immediately. I shot my first semi-major match with the .40 this weekend at the Dixie Cup match in St. George, Utah. The gun ran absolutely perfect and for some reason that I can't figure out, I shoot it better than the 9.
Anyway, I'm definitely an RIA fan at this point, and if I can provide any input to the group on the guns and/or mags I'm using, I'd be happy to help.

For me cost was and is not an issue at all. For me it comes down to this: I can buy a production gun, go to the range and shoot well and it would be satisfying. It is 10X more so shooting well with a gun you built yourself and ammo you built yourself. But that's me. Some people would rather spend the money and buy a custom shop gun and brag about having the latest greatest Atlas, STI, Nighthawk. Nothing wrong with that. I just prefer to do it myself.
+1 on this. I love to build and make things. I an in the process of figuring out where to get the major pieces so I can get started on a 1911 after Christmas.

I use one of the Tek-Loc belt adapters and just put spacers between the holster that. If you haven't already figured it out, you'll need longer screws as well.

Sorry. Autocorrect got me 40's

I haven't paid enough attention in this epic thread, are you guys putting Jo's in the RP9 mags?
Sent from my VS501 using Tapatalk -
I ordered 3 STI mags. They were the older style so they were on sale. I'll get the Guncrafter mag release and see how it goesDoes anyone know if the RP9 mag base is interchangeable with the stock RIA mag ?

The OEM Armscor ones are OEMP164015B on Greg Cote, I think, right? But they've been OOS for like a year. They're a smidge longer than the MGP164015 Para mags. I wonder if there will be enough clearance in the magwell to use them on the MGP164015 mags too.
Sometimes. They required modification in my gun (both to the mag tube, and to the mag catch) and were not 100% by any means. They were too tall and the slide would hit them, causing the mag to drop out of the bottom of the gun. I have the RIA with the tactical rail though, so maybe the Pro Match is a little different.
I may get some of the "inserted" MecGar MPG's to try out. I have burned 18 bucks on less. The other thing is the basepads from Dawson are no longer available. That's why I'm waiting for the TF basepads.

I might have to go the STI route if these mags don't start showing up for saleSometimes. Yeah. I found the right one the Greg Cote site. I did email Taylor Freelance. He responded that they fit the stock magazines. I just want sure which were the ones that were stock. They are under the MetroArms section and unfortunately out of stock. P16B-40-16
You will most likely need to take some material off of the feedlips to avoid FTF issues with those. See my posts at the end of page 40 and beginning of page 41

Are these the correct magazines from Greg Cote that would work with the Freelance basepads? I ordered a 51738 Pro Match Ultra today. I want to get the magazine situation under control.
.40 in a .45 magazine?
