Why federal primers can be had now at decent prices?
I would prefer Federals, but seen an add for $350.00 for 5,000 (shipping and Hazmat included). I could not find Federals at that price. The last time i checked, they are currently all sold out.

I still have a bunch of Ginex SRP. Only one out of 20k used didn’t go off. But at a match! Used them in a 2011 open gun,I’ll use them for practice and managed to get CCI SRP’s for this year (matches for sure)
Thanks for the post. I am thinking about trying some Ginex SPP's.

Have you tried the dovetail sight on any J frames?

Thanks to all the posters for the potential primer supplier options.
The supplier that I used for over 30 years still claims he can not get any primers and is not taking back orders.

I have and still use a couple of Wilson 45 mags I got in the mid 1980's.

I started casting about the same time; I just buy lead from venders now because it's so hard to find and I know what I'm getting.
Shoot 12,000 rounds a year average 345 pounds of lead at 1.60 per pound that's 552.00 dollars, so that's still 23.00 dollars per 500 which is not bad.
Not as good as free but way easier
Where are you buying your lead, locally or online?

I have cast bullets since the mid-80s from wheel weights and other lead scrap. Now days scrap lead is hard to find.

Great photos of the guns.

I did make myself clear. I agree with your position, and did not understand the threat of shutting down the thread.

I agree, but why do I always do things the hard way.

I must have missed something.

I have 2 625's, a 625-3 (1989) and a 625-8, and a supply of .048 moon clips I aquired in the 1990's. .048's work in the 625-8 but not in the 625-3. I am currently clamping the .048 moon clips to a piece of angle iron and grinding off about .005 and finishing on a belt sander. This seemed to have fixed my 625-3 clip problem.

Any update on the primer supply? Will it ever get back close to 2020 prices?

As I get older, I find I need a deeper and wider notch along with a wider brighter front sight.

This brings back memories. Many years ago, I spent about a year going back and forth between the two. It was generally ok, though there were always those times when the rules from one game would slip over into the other. Hiding behind cover in USPA matches or dropping loaded mags in IDPA matches, etc. Always good for a few laughs (and the occasional PE, in the case of IDPA) during those matches.
In the end, if you want to be the best you can be at one of them - just focus on that one and then figure the other is just trigger time/practice under pressure.
I agree. I'm an old timer and shot USPSA since the mid 80's. When I shot an IDPA match, I was told I commited an illegal reload because I did not have both feet firmly planted on the ground. I was told this is a rule in the IDPA rule book. After shooting USPSA for years and years, I could never keep both feet on the ground during a reload.

Thanks for your response. I guess I will have to get out my hack saw.

I have a 1989 version of a S&W 625 with a 5" barrel and was told it's illegal in IDPA. Is this the case?

There isn't enough control using a mig, tig is the way to go.

I agree, a skilled tig welder can do some amazing things. Check out YouTube.

A friend once showed me his gun safe he had made from concrete and rebar. It was like an underground cellar outside the house with the entrance being from inside the house basement from what made to look like a standard closet. He stated that around the door perimeter, wall joining the house foundation, and safe ceiling, the concrete was 12" thick and reinforced with two layers of cross-hatched rebar on 4" centers. The other walls were constructed of similar design but were 6" thick. The safe ceiling was constructed about 2 1/2 to 3 feet below the outside grade and covered with dirt. The outside area above the safe was where he built a dog pen for his two Rottweilers. He then made a typical safe door from 3/8 plate and multiple keyed locks.

I tend to agree with ssanders224, "This. Use your eyes. Your hands will learn how to produce the results you want". To paraphrase, calling your shots and tracking the sights in recoil. Seeing what is happening in real time.

Same as above, but I also try to focus on the entry to a shooting position and exit from a shooting position.
-
I agree with the above. I use Federal.

I agree with the above.

My 3-gun auto shotgun is more reliable with the 1 1/8 loads.
Primers?

For a match, I agree. But I actually enjoy practice more than matches. Cheaper primers to me equals more fun.
