  1. Everyone,I'm heading to PA tommorow to compete at the PSA shootout plate match on thursday. The forecast is for scattered showers. Does anyone have any ideas or tips for bad weather shooting? Ive shot in the rain before but it was at a local match and we just kept going once the rain started. We were like drowned rats at the end. I'll bring my raincoat, extra dry socks, and some shop towels to dry stuff. Would it be worthwhile to bring a waterproof case like an ammo can or tool box to use rather than my normal bag? If anyone has anything to share even if its just a story I would appreciate it. Thanks, Pete

Embrace it! I don't really like the rain only for the fact they bring out the clear plastic bags to cover the targets. Thinking back to early this year at a 3-gun match,it was cold, drizzling, and foggy, could barely see the target at 300 yards. I stopped and thought about how awesome that was. What else would I have been doing that day besides being stuck inside all day. Kind of compares to playing football in the rain and mud as a kid, except, I don't like mud at a match, so put that on the list.

  2. I'm really slow to changes like this, really slow. I know it would probably put me at a disadvantage with shooters who do used these, but it's also not something I would want to come dependant on because I'll always shoot another gun that won't have a thumb rest. I don't think I have ever experienced an issue of what I should do with my SH thumb.

  3. Since buy Steve Anderson's book on dry firing and a shot timer, I have only shot one match that had 4 classifiiers, I shot limited for the first time as a USPSA member and ended with a C classification, 3 other matches had no classifiers. I must say, I felt a little more comfortable shooting those 4 classifier stages having been going by the book. I'm hoping to have some more classifiers soon so I can get out of D classification in Production which is what I have been shooting since joining USPSA so I can get a better gauge of how well this new training is paying off.

  4. There is no such thing as a "memory" stage.

    Disagree.

I have seen stages that require some targets to be shot once some twice others three times all virgina count all on the same stage. That is a memory stage and I don't care for them.

    Pat

    I disagree.

ALL stages have a best/most efficient way to shoot them.

It's up to you to find it. That's half the game dude.

When the buzzer goes off, I don't remember shit.

    Just my plan.

I like the idea that all stages have a best/most efficient way to shoot them, but it seems most of the time, everyone shoots it the same way. It would be nice if no one saw how the shooter ahead of them shoot the stage and see who shot it differently, but even I know that's not realistic.

As far as the "memory" stages, I don't hate them like I used to.

  5. From what I read in a recent Blue Press article arms slightly bent is another option chosen by top shooters. It allows the arms to absorb some of the recoil, it was also stated that Phil Strader takes the approach of squeezing the gun from both sides, I guess much like a vise which keeps the gun from rotating in his hands. He'll squeeze it that at the end of his practice sessions his chest will be a little tired. I hope I didn't get that wrong, especially around here, no telling who might be watching. I've been trying this approach in my dry fire, I haven't been able to focus on it during live fire just yet because when I read it I was close to a couple of matches and I didn't want to change at that time. Changing to this type of form has almost felt like starting over during dry fire, I hope it pays off.

  6. Dang it, I've been using new dryer sheets. My wife hadn't started yelling at me, so I thought I was doing good. I'll be switching to used. I also use a fan to blow the dust as I dump it out into a pan lined with an old t-shirt so I can shake them around try to get any remaining dust on the outside of the shells.

Do any of you add the Nu Finish to used media, or just the new stuff?

  7. I saw some guys form Thailand at one of our club matches who were passing through. A couple of them were shooting CZ's in production and I was to say the least, very impressed. I don't get around to many matches, only the club matches here and clubs around St. Louis when I visit my brother. These guys were shooting these CZ's like I've seen limited and open shooters shoot, fast and accurate. I'm wondering how much of that was the shooter and how much was the gun, if the gun, is it the extra weight of the metal frame or are there other features not available to the M&P's. Seeing those CZ's in action got my interest. I guess they were CZ75B's?

  8. I shoot against the stage, not my competitors. However, as a goal, I like to look at someone who is better than I am and attempt to beat them on paper. I was pretty disappointed at our last club match, I felt I did pretty well, but the guy I hope to beat someday got DQ'd. I want my competitors to do well so if or when I do beat them it feels like more of an accomplishment for myself.

  9. I don't do much of anything but relax like any other sloth the day before a match with the exception of loading mags and checking ammo and load my bag. I like to get to the match with enough time to sign in and walk stages if it's USPSA.

  10. Well crap! Then what's being said about the fitting, could the difference between a Tac Star tube and Nordic Components tube make a difference with the POI? If so, this may explain my bad performance on a certain stage with slugs in the recent past. My M2 is/was shooting low.

  11. I learned by just doing it. I didn't think too much about it, they said keep your finger off the trigger and don't break the 180 and that's what I've done so far. It still took me about 6 months meaning 6 matches at that time to where I could feel comfortable enought to start thinking about going all out.
