  1. SSS has offered a "shark skin" style stippled backstrap in the past that i have been using for quite awhile, but i believe they are currently out of them. You might give them a call to see if they plan on selling them sometime in the future. The backstrap is pretty aggressive and allows the hand to register a good grip that doesn't weaken under recoil.

  2. Definitely worth it, installed the USB in both my full size and Pro. Still not a completely smooth trigger but got rid of 90% of the grit.

Agreed. The USB will eliminate most of the grit and the "hump" in the trigger pull. Adding the Apex hard sear will clean up what's left and shorten the reset.

This^^^ The USB is very good but when coupled with the hard sear everything is better.

  3. So long story short, i found a good deal on a naked 16.40 slide i was thinking about adding to a 1st gen Caspian frame I've had collecting dust for a year or two. Unfortunately the slide is drilled for the PXT extractor, i see the EGW fix that is available from the Pro shop here: http://paraproshop.com/egw-hd-extractor-pxt-pistols.html

Question is will this work on the 16.40 slide since it is 40 S&W?

And if not is the sleeve option a good approach to fixing the problem? If using the EGW sleeve approach am i correct in assuming a series 80 extractor must be used?

I would appreciate any insight that might be useful in determining whether i should jump on this deal or not.

  4. I think...caliber has to remain as it was from the factory, but you can change to an aftermarket barrel as long as you aren't changing calibers. Best bet would be to set it up for limited and develop a 40 major and 40 minor load where all you have to do is swap basepads, pull magwell and go.

  5. I picked up few 40 mags from CDNN and following your method i was able to "adjust" the feed lips. I put a few hundred rounds down range through 4 separate "tuned" mags and did not have any problems. I opted to use new 9mm followers since they were available. Thanks for posting this up.

  6. Stupid question. How do you know if you have a 5" Pro or a 5" ProL?

I do not believe there is a 5" ProL, i think the only options in a 5" gun are a 5" Pro or a 9L. The 9L is no longer in production from my understanding. The difference between the 5" Pro and the 9L are the different sights and sear.

  7. I did the following on my gun and have loved the setup:

    Full Comp AEK and RAM

Dawson Adjustable rear with .285" x .125" front sight

    ISMI 13lb recoil spring

    Dawson grip tape

Medium contour stippled backstrap from Speed Shooter Specialties

And i guess after reading a little bit of this thread i may talk myself into trying the compact base pads for the mags and maybe a different guide rod.
