  1. I was able to find a few other posts from folks who have received an FCU without this pin.  It really does speak to some QC problems in their manufacturing process.   One of the other things I found as I went down the rabbit hole was the video below.  Of course the gent who posted it has an agenda, but when you look closely at the machining on a lot of these parts it does make you wonder.

  2. So problem solved.  The "Custom Shop" FCU did not have the pin for the manual safety installed.  With QC like that it's easy to see why there are so many complaints about these guns.  Hopefully this will help people who have the same problem.  Thanks for all the replies!

  3. The stock FCU has no problem, just the custom shop one which does this.  If you look closely at the out of battery pic you can see that the hook on the striker is sticking out of the back a bit and the plate on the slide hits it.  With the stock FCU the hook goes in further so no problem.  SIG says send it back, given the sketchy reputation of these guns I suppose that is what I'll do.  Still interested to know if anyone else has seen this problem or has an idea of what is causing it.

  4. All the parts are new sig, with 300-400 rounds on everything except the custom shop FCU.  It is not that it is slightly out of battery and then you can push it closed, it goes to the last bit and stops hard.  No amount of force (that I'm willing to apply) will make it close.

  5. I got a custom shop FCU to build a new gun around.  When I put it in my X series full size (all stock parts) the slide won't go all the way into battery.  It holds back a bit under an 1/8 of an inch and feels like it is hitting something solid.  Has anyone run across this problem?

  6. So I ordered an extended mag release from Cajun for my SP01 manual safety model, and yes it is longer but the button is round instead of pear shaped?  Is this just how they are or did I get sent the wrong one?

  7. I have an FO front sight on my M&P where the fiber is very high on the post, just a very thin bit of metal is above the hole.  When you put the fiber in, the glob easily reaches the top of the sight.  Does anyone know of a front sight like this for CZ?

  8. I have the smaller DAA, and it is great for both general range and matches.  I used to have a cart with a range bag, I thought I would get another cart right away.  I have been going to matches for a couple of months now and am not sure I will bother with a cart again.  The pack is that comfortable.  The quality is way above most other stuff I have seen, and the design is really thoughtful.  My only complaint is the CED brass bag that came with it is junk.  I had the older version before and it was a lot better.  Overall, I would say the good design and build quality make it a purchase you won't regret.  BTW, I thought the rain fly was a gimmick until the first time it rained at a match.  It was great to get home and have everything dry after a day in the rain.

  9. I recently picked up a new SP01 Shadow from CZC.  I'm trying to figure out if I can learn to ride the safety, so I am going to shoot IDPA ESP for a while (yes I know it sucks etc).  My question is, what are the easiest things I can do to improve just the SA pull?  I don't want to go too crazy at first, if I can't adjust to riding the safety I will probably just get the full CGW kit for production.  So basically the easiest/cheapest steps to improve SA in ascending order, with a general idea of which have the biggest payoff.

  10. Thanks for the info.  I searched the forum to see if this question had been answered already and found a good number of threads where people were talking about Mec-Gar's failing to drop.  Maybe it has been addressed or is just less common than it seemed.

  11. New to CZ and just got my hands on a Shadow SP-01 (not a Shadow 2) for shooting IDPA SSP.  Sadly I suffer from the affliction that is CA residency.  What is the best option for 10 round mags?  It seems from searching here that Mecgar have problems, are there any other good choices?  as a tangent, I may go ESP at some point and want to run a magwell, are there any 10 round mags that can have an extended baseplate put on?  I know CZ custom makes one but are there others?

    Thanks!

  12. Thanks for all the info, looks like RJH called it with the trailboss/Lead combo.  The published data for trailboss is with a 7.7" barrel, so should be pretty close on my..... big 10".  Just in case anyone is looking to go really light, they have loads down to 66PF.

  13. Yeah I've never tried to load 38 this light, which is why I was asking here :-).  I'm open to pretty much any powder/bullet combo that has a low BIB risk, I hadn't considered that possibility but it definitely sounds like something to avoid.

  14. My thoughts exactly M1.  As Memphis points out it is possible to get M&Ps running right, but with all the time and expense involved it's hard to see why you would bother unless part of your enjoyment of the hobby includes a lot of fiddling with your gun.  So perhaps it's worth it if like Memphis you have a lot of experience putting these in and tuning them or are lucky like Demented.  If you are coming to it from stock like the OP, maybe thinking twice before going down this road will save a lot of frustration.  Just sayin....YMMV.

  15. I get what you're saying, and I believe that you had that experience.  But you are also quoting a sample size of one.  I think, given the variation in factory tolerances, that some will and do have a reliable outcome.  Some will not.  As far as fixing my gun goes I worked on it a lot, then had two highly rated actual gunsmiths work on it.  Still it persists.  I know others who have had similar experiences and some where it worked.  All I'm saying is that there is risk involved, as there will be any time you modify your gun with any product not just Apex ones.
