  1. First, let me type that I hold MDs in the highest regard.  They and their close staff put their lives on hold for weeks at a time to put on a match!

This however seems black and white if that is what actually happened.  Shouldn't take a protest for an MD to throw out an illegal stage.

  2. When the process works right, there is an SO application form that needs to be filled out by the applicant.  It is sort of a shooting resume, and it asks for references of someone that knows the shooter, sponsors the shooter and supports the shooter becoming an SO.  It also asks about local and sanctioned matches attended or worked and some other stuff.  The SOI is supposed to verify the applicant's potential to be an SO.  Not everyone is cut out to be an SO.

  3. This was covered on another forum.  By rule, the mag can stick out up to 1" when measured at the front of the grip.  Some G17 mags make this, others do not.

Also, the overall match winner was Nils (duh) who shot the match wth enough spare room to get two FTDR's and still win. Lol

    Wait.  What?

    5.6 Disqualification (DQ):
Disqualification means the shooter may not continue in any part of the IDPA match, may not reenter in another division, and may not shoot any side matches. The shooter’s score will be reported as DQ. A shooter must be Disqualified for the following reasons:
5.6.1 Unsafe firearm handling as defined in the Safety Rules Section.
5.6.2 Receiving more than one FTDR during a single match.
    5.6.3 Unsportsmanlike conduct
5.6.4 Violations of the Shooter’s Code of Conduct
5.6.5 Shooting at a steel target that is less than 10 yards from the shooter.

I would guess that number is probably accurate overall, although the poll here may not reflect it. Some seniors don't like change at all, so that may factor in also.

Not too many of the 25000 IDPA members belong to BEnos, and even fewer are active in this thead.  Just saying this is hardly a random sample of IDPA shooters, which it would have to be, for the results to be meaningful.

  6. The rules are simply the rules, unless you read them incorrectly.

8.2.2.1.7 All firearms legal in SSP are legal for use in ESP. This provision may be used for firearms that violate an ESP rule (for example, a firearm with a steel dust cover or rail over 3.25”) to still be used in ESP, provided the firearm meets all SSP requirements.

8.2.2.3.1 Steel dust covers and rails over 3.25” (82.6 mm) (as measured from the rear of the slide stop pin to the most forward portion of the dust cover or rail) are not permitted.

  7. Our IDPA club is preparing to order targets for 2016. Does IDPA plan to change the "approved" target to show the points-down markings using the new points down numbers?

    David

The points down areas of the target are not changing. So no issue with ordering targets.

  8. Congratulations, you completely missed the point of Rowdy's and my post.

If you have followed Rowdy's shooting rise, you note he has sought out consistent great preformances rather than hero and then zero.

Hero and then zero is easy. Consistent great performances is much harder.

  9. These types of things have lead me to really adopt a mindset and stage plan where nothing I do is left to human judgement of someone else. It is clear cut. Never leave it to someone else to judge, invariably you'll get screwed.

    Rowdy,

You have joined the ranks of the highest MAs and DMs.

Those that choose to dance on the edge of a cliff, sometimes fall off. Staying back from the edge is a better long term strategy.

  10. WRT bolded. I'm pretty sure the 2013 comments were public, but I don't know about the 2015 comments. That said, the announcement said this change came directly from the BoD. Of course they have the comments too.

Thank you. I too have enjoyed shooting with you.

  11. Rowdy, good point. Me neither... in person. However during the 2013 and 2015 rulebook comment periods it was a popular rule change request.

As for my take on the rule, it won't bother me either way and I haven't campaigned either way. I already shoot as accurately as 65 year old eyes that are being attacked every day by diabetes can shoot. Maybe I am old and ignorant as implied, but I still like the shooting sports.

  12. I'm not saying this point change is about getting or being old. From what HQ has said in private and in public, it is not.

None-the-less the "dinosaur" term is very interesting, but it seems those using the term as a derogative haven't thought much about it.

There are two ways the young don't become "dinosaurs" themselves.

The smuggness and ignorance of youth doesn't ever seem to get that unless they screw up big time, they too will get old. They also don't get that it will happen much faster than they think.

Or, they give up shooting and move on to bingo or some such.

If neither of those things happen, the young will soon enough be "dinosaurs" listening to the smuggness and ignorance of youth, and shaking their head too.

  13. Not sure what you mean. Draw a mental straight line from the center of the target to the edge of the prop and continue it. That is the cover line.

If any part of your foot, knee, or hip is outside that line and you fire a shot, your reward is 3 seconds. Some SOs will give you a toe, or a foot over the line, but don't get used to it, cause others will call it correctly.

  14. I have two vests. The first I bought from Concealed Carry Clothiers for daily carry long before I learned of IDPA. http://concealedcarry.com/products/Tropic-Concealment-Vest.html but mine is Navy in color. It is great in spring and fall when a shirt isn't enough but a jacket is too hot.

The second I got in 2007 Nationals as part of the match staff clothes package from Eotech. I wear them about equally on the street this time of year, and the Eotech in IDPA because of the pockets. It has been died to a maroon color.

I'm not one to put patches on my clothing or decals or bumper stickers on my vehicles though. So they are plain vests.

In the winter I use a Carhart or leather bomber jacket for work and concealment. But IWB is easy to conceal even with a short jacket.

The super stiff vests with no closure in the front and a completely vented back have caught on even with prices over $100.

It would be hard to write a rule that allowed actual carry vests and outlaw the competition only vests.

  15. In the Q&A tool, this answer was given for retention;

Magazine retention: these places include pants pocket; vest pocket; jacket pocket; waistband and ammunition carrier. The use of specially designed pockets; modified pockets; shirt or upper vest pockets; hands or teeth are not permitted.
