Between my local gun shop already having a VTAC II in stock and my rookie AR status, I will be getting the VTAC II. Thanks for the info and advice, I am sure it will help me in the future. Now (after the 7 day wait), the fun begins!

This version of a S&W has the upgraded trigger (Geissele® Super V Trigger) and better barrel than a standard S&W. So that raises the quality, from what I understand right with some of the ones you mention.. all for $1,700. Or is a LOKI still a better choice, or near equal, in your opinion??

Want to move from handgun USPSA only stages to multi/3Gun stages/matches. I am 100% novice with rifles/ARs. Is getting a Smith & Wesson M&P VTAC II overkill at this point? I think I would rather get a gun that I will eventually (hopefully sooner rather later...) grow in to. Spending $2K + (after Optics ...) is not a problem as long as this is a good choice.
