Has anyone heard anything beyond rumors on why the match was cancelled?
-
Actually, the one that works says MecGar on the side. Also an -A- marking.

I have a CZ-97B that I'd like to eventually use for shooting He-Man/Heavy Metal Division in 3-gun (it's the most accurate .45 I've ever owned, beating out the HK USP Tactical, Sig P220, and Kimber 1911).
However, I've had a persistent problem finding good magazines for it. The only magazine the works right is the single one it came with (I bought it used.) Both other mags I've tried (a MecGar 'OEM' and an EAA Witness mag) have the same issue - if loaded with the full 10 rounds, the first round almost always fails to feed properly. The remaining nine rounds all feed just fine.
I know most folks here run various 9mm and .40 CZs, but I'm hoping someone can help me find a source for good mags for my -97B.

The Seekins LM BCG goes for roughly $225 or so, the JP around $350 with JP Enhanced Bolt.
Buy once, cry once? Is the JP 60% better than the Seekins?

Yes, historically it was a shorter barreled rifle, but like I said, Armalite always billed their firearm a carbine, and the ammunition was carbine ammo.
Now where in any of this did I say what caliber I used? Where did I say MY 30 cal? Matter of fact outside of mentioning heavy metal...I didn't mention a single caliber. But if we are going to talk about RIFLE SHOTS I figured we should be talking about...well....RIFLES.
Now Perhaps a Dahlgrin Naval rifle would like to have a word with your miniscule 58 caliber Burnside...or perhaps a much smaller 20mm Lahti anti tank rifle would like to chat.
Given the barrel lengths of the standard service rifles of the time (M-14, FAL) 20" was a shorter barrel.

Outside of just a handful of heavy metal guys there are NO RIFLES IN OR SPORT!!!!! Plenty of dinky little carbines who's utility at long range is more than questionable, but damn few rifles. I would say YES we need more that 60 yard RIFLE shots, but who really cares about a carbine.
Utility might be questioned.
Accuracy at range? Up to 600 yards? Not really. Just ask the blokes on the line at Camp Perry.

At FN, the FTE/FTN penalties were doubled on targets past 100 yards (or maybe 150), and stages with those type of target had 3 or more of them. Makes the "throw one round at it and move on" strategy non-competitive.

I did get my refund check last week.
-
Still no word on why it was cancelled?
-
VA Beach and the Outer Banks are right there...I'm sure she could find something to do.
-
I ran mine at FNH last week. I had the loading port opened up, and no issues related to that.
I had to put extra lube on after the stages (I forgot exactly how wet it likes to run) and out ran find after that.
-
Definitely. A great match.
And great ROs. The ones on Stage 6 were the best.

Not unless you count a military discount...

Read the entire post......I don't think it's a good target for major matches. Should you go out and buy one right away? No. Is it a fun target to shoot and requires skill? Sure.
Is cost...in 3-Gun...an excuse. No. It has nothing to do with a certain target or not, but this is an expensive sport to be in....entry level or not.
Even a $400 pistol is accompanied with $100 in mags, a $700-1200 rifle with $100 in mags, $300 optic on the low end unless you're shooting true irons, and a minimum of a $400 shotgun.
$100 in mags? That's only like, 3 mags. Yeah, you can run a match like that, but you'd have to be a mag-loading fool.

I've got no problem with flying clays of any sort, as long as the presentation is consistent for all shooters. And I say that as someone who is a combined 1/10 or so on flyers in my last two major matches.
I do think there should be a larger penalty for not shooting at them at all vs engaging and not hitting. FTE vs FTN.
-
Well, all of us ROs for that stage got burned by it. Sub-optimal stage plan for each and every one of us.
-
There really isn't anything that bad, but I shoot at Peacemaker every month. Last years match had longer range.
I guess if your normal club match only shoots out to 200yds you may have more trouble.
Either way its a great match and lots of fun!
My normal club match can only shoot out to 100...so yeah, my rifle on 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 left a lot to be desired.
But I still had a lot of fun and learned a lot. (Much thanks to my roommate and fellow stage 6 RO, Kurt K.)
-
Dumb question....will I need my gun cart, or can you drive to the stages?
-
Maybe there should be more spinners for rifles...give a big incentive for the HM shooters!
-
It actually sounds like something they might come up with at Range 37. They're in NC, near Ft. Bragg. It's named after one of the live-fire ranges the SF and USASOC guys use on the Fort.

This will be legend - wait for it - ary.
FIFY.

I live in Newport News...I'm staying at my house.
And if you stay anywhere south of the James River (Norfolk/VA Beach/Chesapeake) there shouldn't be any traffic issues on Saturday or Sunday morning. Even coming from north of the river (Hampton/Newport News), the only major potential bottlenecks are the tunnels, and that early on weekend mornings, in October, are usually only an issue if there's an accident or other problem.
-
Every stage I've seen with a required reload that didn't specify "from the belt/on-body stowage" (such as chest rig for Trooper Division types) was kosher with using coupled mags.
The main requirement was that the first mag leave the magwell, and a different mag be inserted.

Newport News/Williamsburg airport (PHF) too.I'm getting pumped....and I'd love to support our SEALS. Thank you for doing this!
Will SEALS or other Military Personnel be helping with the match?
Will the Tier 1 training location have long range steel?
Are the closest airports Norfolk and Richmond?
Thank you

Norfolk has the advantage of being on the same side of the James River as Moyock, so you don't have to fight traffic through the Tunnel on a Friday afternoon.

I'll have to give that a try. My usual pattern is to leave them unloaded, just load them before I head to the range.
