Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for the advice everyone. Going to return the tubes now and just wait for some true pre ban mags to become available. It's just not worth it. I wouldn't feel comfortable unless I actually had proof that they were real. Looks like I am just going to have to keep searching the classifieds.p
  2. I think I am going to take the advice of some and just try to find a place to order tubes. I just placed an order from a site and it seems to have gone through. I will let you know if it works.
  3. there are no markings on the pre ban tubes that Identify them as such Jon, I live part time in New York, and suffered through this same problem for years, until I realized that "there is no way to identify them". I have shot at four different clubs in NY and notice a lot of non-law enforcement people shooting hi-cap mags, which are not labelled "preban". Their explanation is that they purchased the tubes separately, and then purchased the internal components, so they didn't purchase "post ban mags". Seems to work for many people. Not sure if this helps but I have some old pre-ban SVI mags, the color is a very dull grey. I bought them when they were selling "pre-ban tubes" during the AWB. All of the newer ones were the polished and longer. I still do have some of the 10 round STI mags that were being sold when the AWB was in effect. They have a cut in the mags and a dimple on both sides to help prevent anyone from making them into standard capacity. I would definitely be interested in some of those SVI mags if you are willing to part with them. Please send me a PM if you get a chance. Thanks! Jon
  4. Last I knew, there were no date stamps on the mags. That makes them all pre-ban I was considering that but people I have spoken to said to make sure I can prove they are pre-ban. I think this is one of those scenarios where you would be guilty until proven innocent.
  5. Would love to just buy a factory STI mag but in order to meet my states pre-ban requirements, the mags must have been manufactured prior to 1994. I have a 10rd STI mag now..... Just looking for one a bit longer for limited shooting.
  6. Yup, saw that post already. I spoke to Dawson about the mag length and they said that they are not even allowed to send a 130mm tube to me. From what I understand, there are no markings on the pre ban tubs that Identify them as such and the only way to identify them is by the 130mm length. That being said, I have also searched for 130mm mags and came up with very little. Glocks mags seem to be all over the place but I can't seem to find any S_I mags. I live in NYC for those who are wondering. Some people say that the cops don't even care but I just don't want to take that risk. A felony charge does not seem to be worth it to me. thanks in advance for any help.
  7. Wow, wish I knew that before. I just figured that because it was a 1911 platform that pre ban mags would be a dime a dozen. Will mags from other manufacturers fit a STI with a little tuning? Thanks
  8. Hi everyone, I posted this in another section but I wasn't sure what forum was the best place to ask it... I can't even begin to tell you how much time I have spent looking for pre-ban mags for my STI Edge in .40. I can't seem to find them anywhere. I see them in the classified section in .40 from time to time but it seems that they come up very infrequently. Is there any better way to find them that I am missing.... And yes, I know I should move but that is not an option for my family. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  10. Thanks for the advice everyone. Postal bob.... I will take you up on that offer. You may see me out there this weekend. One other question for everyone because I am interested in the larger group consensus. I completely understand that the one gun scenario is not ideal for competition but to start I am just looking to have fun. Would I have more fun in the G35, production, limited & open scenario or should I start with a gun like a Para 16 40 and shoot limited and open with it (obviously with mods for open)? Just curious about people's opinion. I know I wouldn't be able to compete in production with the Para but would I be more competitive in limited and open with the Para vs the glock 35 and have more fun with the gun? I just see a lot of posts of people quickly jumping from production to limited and I don't want to purchase equipment just for one class if I won't be shooting it that much. Thanks again for the help. Definitely helpful information provided by everyone. Jon
  11. So... as long as the glock is not a Gen4, will I be able to use any magazine with it as long as it was manufactured prior to 94? Do you have to modify those mags in any way to fit a gen 3? Also, if you modify the trigger for limited and open, how easy is it to bring the gun back to production? Is this something the average person can do or should you really have separate guns? I was also looking at the list of production production guns and noticed that there were no 1911's listed. Are guns like the Para 16 40 even allowed to be used in uspsa production? Thanks for the help
  12. Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me because I am completely confused at this point!!! I have been a competitive shotgun shooter for a long time and I wanted to get into action pistol competitions. I have been going nuts trying to figure out what gun I should start with. Here are my questions: 1) if you had to pick one gun for production, limited and open, what would it be and what caliber? I plan to start with production and then add components to the gun as I progress towards limited and open. I am not looking for a gun to be ultra competitive but I thought it would be fun to shoot multiple classes. I thought the glock 35 would be a good starting gun but then I also started to look at the Para 16 40 and the Kimber custom. 2) can I shoot limited or open USPSA in NY? I keep reading all of these articles relating to the magazine capacity restrictions. Am I going to be limited to the purchase of a 1911 with pre-ban magazines? Is there such a thing as a pre-ban magazine for a glock 35? Does the magazine have to include a date stamp on it? How can someone prove that a magazine was made pre-ban? 3) finally.... Can pre-ban magazines be modified to fit modern handguns or does the gun have to also be pre-ban? Sorry for all of the questions but it is not easy finding the information online. Thanks in advance for any help!
