  1. Ok, I have a very important question for everyone. If the only time this match could happen was on a monday-tuesday, would people show up? Property restrictions may keep it from being on a weekend.
  2. OMG...so tired of meetings getting cancelled. Yet another one. I will let yall know when it happens.
  3. Good luck - very interested if this match comes together. Would have liked to shoot the Pecos run and gun this weekend, but just found out about it a couple days ago. Approximately where would this be located? ETA: Please consider doing this when the snakes are hibernating. Within 40 miles of Austin...gonna shoot for a cool weather month. Spring already looks full up with lots of matches, but nothing is for sure at this point...
  4. New meeting with land owner is 10/19/11...keep your fingers crossed!
  5. still trying to get schedules to line up so we can work out details with the land owner...looks like this will be a 2012 event for sure, at this point
  6. The meeting with the land owner got cancelled today for reasons beyond my control. I will keep yall posted when we reschedule.
  7. Meeting with the land owner on Wednesday, to discuss details..... Keep your fingers crossed!!!
  8. do you have a link for that match? I have heard about it, but not ever been able to find anything on it. And yes.... It will be crazy http://www.ttellc.net/prgs.htm Do some searching for Pecos Run 'n Gun Hey Aaron, thanks for the link... Very similar to what I am thinking, except we will do it in a cooler month, rougher terrain and a little more shooting.
  9. I was thinking repairs could be made with things you have in your vehicle....but that is a long way from half way through the course, and all you have is your two feet!
  10. What do you guys think of just saying the classes are non existent? "Run what you Brung" Dont go all crazy on me, just throwing that out there. It interests me, because if you want to take on the extra weight of a bunch of optics and do-hickies, you could have an advantage shooting. Or...you could run a stripped down 14" AR with iron sights to gain an advantage in movement speed, along with less fatigue. Personally, I couldnt imagine how much it would suck to truck around a 20" open gun for 5 miles of rocks
  11. We actually talked about doing something like a match requiring off road vehicles....but I know 90% of us can hike...maybe only 65% have off roaders, and of that 65%, only 20% have something that they are willing to punish.
  12. Location is on the DL, until I iron out the details with the land owner. I can tell you that it is within 60 miles of Austin on more than 3000 acres. If that one falls through, I have another place in the works, that is only a little further out. Just picture lots of deep gullies, 4-10 foot rock walls and multiple elevation changes. Working on a .50 for a prop gun for a 1000+ yard bonus shot. As far as round count goes, stay tuned. I have to go map out the course and run it myself before I determine the number of stages and the round count. Early guess would be low 100's for pistol and rifle. Other mandatory items to be carried will probably be something like: first aid kit, cell phone, 1 quart of water.....just brainstorming still at this point.
  13. I thought 3Gun typically had 5 classes... Maybe like this... Open, Dirtbike, ATV, UTV, Rock Racer. This a kind of crossbred match that seems to be gaining more popularity. However, the "team" aspect of it tends to really spread out the fit/good shooters from the rest, and rightly so. IF there was more of a PAR time aspect to the scoring where the "50% team" could finish the courses and the placement was really due to their lack of shooting skill, that might be a benefit to bring in more shooters. Otherwise, ditch the team component and just leave it as best man wins. Just a thinkin' out loud. mark, thanks for the input... Gets me thinking of maybe doing something like runnin the team event and then awarding the guys who shoot the best seperate from the trek. So you would have to run the event together, shoot together, but then your shooting scores are also seperate from your teammate. I would consider doing it individualy, but it would be tough to run very many people without things piling up... Also, there will likely be obsticals that there would be no wy for one person to get over alone
  14. I am guessing that Daniel Horner and Ben Fortin would do very well with this match. they do well at every match
  15. do you have a link for that match? I have heard about it, but not ever been able to find anything on it. And yes.... It will be crazy
  16. Mike, never fear! I dont want to level the field. I want the guy who can hump his gear the fastest and shoot the best to win.... I Do Not want the guy who can run the fastest to win, and i Do Not want the guy who is a grand master on paper to win. Gotta have both. Nothing is set as far as how scoring, or anything else for that matter, will be done. This is all great input and I greatly appriciate all the posts... Keep'em coming!!! -Nick
  17. jesse, most of the time I would agree with you. I want to make this equally about the trek as it is about shooting. Trust me, it wont be so much running as it will be hiking and climbing. We are also discussing the option of doing a traditional match on the weekend, followed by the Enduro event the next day or two. I will keep you posted
  18. I agree with you that it sounds like a foot race with shooting mixed in, but I want to make the scoring so that a good shooter can make up time. Also remember you havent seen the terrain yet . Carrying guns and gear over the place I am working on will be more like 3/4-1 mile per hour. Without gear it would probably take a good runner 20-30 minutes to cover a mile
  19. Enduro -defined: a long race stressing endurance rather than speed. Hey everyone, I need some feedback to decide if this is going to happen. I am strongly considering organizing a 2 gun (carbine/pistol) in Central Texas, that consists of a 5-7 mile trek across very rough terrain, with 5-8 shooting stages along the way. The course will be pre-determined and all gear will have to be carried by competitors from beginning to end. To add a little support and drive, it will most likely be a two man team event. There will be some stages that are very similar to modern 3 gun stages, minus the shottie, and other stages that have short par times and an abundance to targets. I havent worked out scoring completely, but it will be something to the affect of targets hit will be deducted from your total time of the race, more accurate hits taking off more time (seeing as how this hasnt been decided, it is subject to drastic change). The event will probably be shot over a couple of days, with teams shooting only one of the two days (everyone cant run at once), and it will likely be limited to a smaller number of shooters than the traditional 3 guns, for the same reason listed above. What I need to know is, anyone wanna come foot race through the hill country and shoot stuff along the way? All comments and suggestions will be greatly appriciated. If this thread is in the wrong section, I wont be heartbroken if a moderator moves it. Thanks, Nick Atkinson
  20. Sooooo... Score update? I think everyone would at least like an ETA on posting
  21. When will final scores be up? The 12 hour drive home has me wondering how I finished!!!
