I'm starting to reload for pistols (have a lot of experience reloading for rifle competitions), and have a question about bullet selection. Are pistols like rifles, in that individual pistols tend to shoot really well with certain bullet manufacturers/weights/types and poorly with others? Or with handguns do you just pick a bullet that meets your budget and PF/recoil requirements, and start loading?
In other words, if I'm trying to develop a load for a gun (Sig P226 9mm if it matters), do I have to buy Montana Gold 124 JHPs, Zero 147 FMJs, Hornady 115 XTPs, etc. and try them all to figure out what gives the best accuracy, feeding reliability, bore fouling, etc in my particular gun? Or can I just buy a couple thousand popular bullets from a quality manufacturer and call it a day?
I was going to order a case of Montana Gold 124gn JHPs based on the positive feedback they receive here, but $300+ is a lot of money to risk if there's a chance my gun might not like them.
