When did you start shooting open? Late 2003

Was 40 your first caliber in open? Yes

Why did you choose 40? I had a couple limited guns in .40, mags in .40 and since I live in Ca, mags are an issue. This was just after 9mm major was given the nod and it was still scaring folks back then.

What make is your gun? Para frames and STI slides

Who built it? Wil OHara, Corona, Ca

What barrel length, comp and optic are you using? 6 in Tribrid II with a 5" slide on one and 5" Kart with an EGW 8 chamber in the other. Bevenized Docter on both.

Do you run a big stick, and what capacity are you getting? 26+1 and 27+1

What have you settled on for a load? Started out with N-350 and then tried N-340 with a 135 gr bullet. 350 didn't burn completely. Tried Silhouette and it worked well but still did not quite burn fully. So, back to N-340 with Rainier 135 gr or Nosler 135 JHP. Using about 8.1 - 8.2 gr for +175.

    What's your open classification? B

    Where do you live? SoCal

Later, I built my Open .40 on a Para frame I had Sri slide Clark barrel  Dawson Awesome comp originally had ta Tasco Optima200 cut onto   The slide. Went .40 because of the California mag situation was running Limited with a P16optimas died repeatedly so I. Have a C more now. so I had mags been thinking of going to.357 Sig with a new barrel andcomp maybe one of the newer slide ride dots if I coul do so without a new slide being necessary I’m out of  CA  CA land now

  2. I have a .40 Open Para with a C More on it been thinking of changing to .357 Sig just need to figure out what barrel and comp and where to get one shouldn't be tough to do. I built this beast with help from Charlie Granger years ago since he isn't playing anymore that I know of. Any ideas???

There's not many resources left for those of us still shooting 16.40s from Ye Olden Times. I'm hoping that 3rd party manufacturers will support the new Remington doublestacks, since they are essentially Paras. I know they take the same mags.Rock Island

  5. Wsf, makes major pretty easily with room to spare,

Yup. I started off loading .40 with the old Winchester Action Pistol at first, but when that was discontinued, I switched to WSF. I've shot a LOT of that behind the Bear Creek 180 TC bullets. I tested it out way back, even did heat and cold testing to see if that affected it, and so on. Best thing was how low my SD's were, single digits for test lots of 20 rounds. I've run WSF for both 180gr.for Limited and 140's for my Open gun, though it's not optimal for that. I'm going to try AutoComp for the 140s soon and see how that goes.

  6. Well, I've been officially set free from my brace now (3 months) and had my first live range practice. Took my High-Standard .22 to the indoor place (yes, summers in Houston SUCK!) I'm surprised my shooting wasnt worse than it was. Started off at 7 yards doing bulls-eye style one-handed slow fire. Didn't hurt at all, but holding that sucker out there at arm's length showed me I need to work on some weight out there to improve my steadiness. after about 100 rounds of ever-so-hard-to-find .22 ammo, I switched to 2 handed shooting and I'm glad I did a bunch of dry-fire while I was off the range. It definitely helped. Next trip will be with one of my Limited guns, I just need to load up a batch of .40s to take. Figure I'll do another 200 round session, starting with slow-fire/one hand and go to 2 hands in the middle somewhere. Wrist still needs to loosen up quite a bit, I dont have all my range or strength back yet for sure

  7. How long would you expect to take off before resuming shooting after breaking your wrist?

I had an accident at work, fell, and broke my radius due to trying to break my fall with my hand. The doc said it "If you had to break it, that's the break to have" and I didnt need a cast, just a splint/brace I've been wearing for 6 weeks now. Unfortunately, this is my right (strong) hand, so shooting has been put aside for the time being. Doc said no shooting til about 12 weeks from the injury. My question is, what exercises can I do to get range of motion back, plus get ready for when I can pick my handguns up again

  8. I have a .40 Open also. I've been away from competition for a while now, and I was shaking the bugs out of mine right around the time I got away from the sport.

    my .40Open:

Para gunsmith frame I got in a trade of prize-table stuff

STI slide, originally decked for a slide-ride Optima.

    Clark .40 threaded barrel.

Dawson "Awesome #2"comp, 4 upward ports, 2 sidewards

C-More Serendipity sight with 8-minute dot.

Para factory mag tubes ...I went with .40 because I was in CA and had the high-cap mags. With the Dawson pad,I could get 21 in the mag. Grams pads got me 20.I used the same mags with my Limited gun.

ammo was 140 gr Bear Creek RNFP over WSF powder and Win primers, loaded 1.135 OAL and 172 PF.

now that I'm thinking of getting back into the game, I'll probably try AutoComp.

I tried 155 Berrys plated, but not as good if results, but I could also shoot them in my LTD. Gun.
