hi i already have a kimber 1911 .45 but am looking to buy another pistol for a race gun.. i would like to compete in open gun competitions what should i start out with?

In California it's illegal to have a threaded barrel on a pistol....

If I'm going to order a comp kit should I get a new barrel? Or leave the stock kimber barrel in?

Ya you could say I'm just trying to make a better plinker I am ok with my accuracy as is but I can't shoot fast and accurate.... I want to be able to have follow up shots faster and more accurate... Without buying a new gun

If I were to use regular loads how light of a spring could I use without causing damage?

Hey I have a kimber 1911 stock I want to modify it to be more like a .38 super race gun... I know I need to change the recoil spring and main spring but I want to shoot regular loads through it.... How light of springs can I use... Can I lighten my slide weight? What kind of compensator do I use? Do I mess with the firing pin? Or hammer? I've put together a few ar-15's but pistols are a whole new world to me.... Any advice helps. Thanks
