  1. Not mounted yet, i'll post em when done. I'll turn on the overhead light too
  2. I'm thinking I'll probably end up with a bar stool. Seems like about the right height.
  3. Thats what i was thinking bout it being a little to the right. I'll do the board thing. It's a steel office desk.
  4. I'd need it in the center where my legs would go under the desk while sitting in the computer chair though wouldn't i?
  5. Thanks, i'll sit it there and check it out and see how it feels
  6. Thanks poppa bear, how far from the edge? I think i may need a taller computer chair
  7. Wow no replies yet, figured this would be pretty simple to answer lol
  8. Where should i mount the 550? It has strong mount and roller handle. Im figuring center or a little to the right. How far from the edge? Also the lee will be mounted directly to the desk somewhere near where it is above the missing drawer so that it doesn't block any drawers.. It'll come off the 2x6 frame thing. I bought it from a friend that way, its just sitting there for the pic. I also have a dillon swager, where should it go? I've had this stuff for a few years and just now getting around to it. I mounted the 3/4" plywood with a 5/16" nut and phillips head bolt countersunk in each corner. The top of the desk is thin sheet metal with a thin layer of formica type stuff so it was too week. I'm also gonna mount a vice on the left front corner. Thanks.
  9. hmmmmmmmm i'm gonna have to check mine out. I was measuring(experimenting) some powder for the first time other night. I was comparing my digital to my beam scale to check the accuracy of the digital which is a used cabela's. when i'd tare it out with the pan and put powder on it, it was dead on but when i'd remove the pan and powder and put it right back on it'd be off by .2 to .4 of a grain every single time. Only way to fix it was to get the powder out of the pan and retare it... I think it has batts in it from previous owner, as It is plugged in. I'll take them out if so and try again. thanks for the heads up!
  10. I have a dillon 600 swage on the way that I found cheap. Thanks for the help from everybody. Is $87 shipped for 1000 hornady new 55gn fmjbt bullets a pretty decent deal?
  11. I have a case gauge for 223 so got that covered. I'm still in the process of figuring out how to best mount my press to my steel desk. trying to avoid putting the 3/4" plywood on top if possible.... i'm gonna use the desk as a general work surface from time to time also and it'll get beat up I think and look terrible.
  12. thanks guys! so the powder bar should slide all the way back and forward when the handle is pulled all the way down and pushed all the way to the prime position right?
  13. I got my new 550 put together yesterday. I am a little confused on the powder measure setup on 223. The directions say to push the handle forward into the priming position and screw the blue finger adjust on the end of the steel rod till it just contacts the white plastic piece that goes through the bracket on the press. I did this, but on the linkage of the powder measure, should it go all the way forward/ should the powder bar go all the way to the front? seems like it should so as to fill the powder compartment all the way. To make it do this I have to screw the blue thumb screw much farther than the directions say. Thanks for any advice!!
  14. Just found this on another post. Is this right? If so, how does it resize the neck and do this at that same time? "The powder die on a 223 does not bell the case mouth. The depriming pin shaft opens up the case mouth and the powder die simply holds the case for adding the powder."
  15. i'm putting my new 550 together right now and watching vids on youtube to help me along the way. I kept seeing guys put that belling powder die in and mine didnt look anything like that. blew my mind! lol I was thnking they sent me the wrong die or something. then i went to dillons site and looked up the powder die for 223 and saw that it has an A in front of the caliber and my powder funnel has an A on it so I knew it was the right one. I don't understand why they don't make it bell the case. Makes no sense really. Glad I found this post. Just what I was looking for. Guess I might find me a lee die or something to replace it if I have any problems with it.
  16. hey Caz, i was told on another forum that rcbs makes something that works great on a single stage press for primer pocket swaging. I'm going to their site to check it out.
  17. I have a lee single stage, does anybody make some kind of swage die that I could use on the press? i've been trying to figure out something to use that press for. Hopefully somebody makes something like that so I don't have to spend $110 more right now.
  18. Caz, I'm finding that I should have went ahead and ordered that dillon swage...... I have 3,000 rnds of prvi partisan and just ordered 2000 polished cases off gunbroker, 50% lc and 50% mixed, some crimped some not. so i'm def. gonna be needing a swage. I'm hoping I can dig enough non crimped out to get the swing of things. I gotta go dig up a notebook to write these numbers down to take to town with me and get some bullets and powder.
  19. thanks guys! this is the info I was looking for!!!!!! I'm gonna jot this down in my reloading notebook and take it with me today and buy some stuff! Much appreciated. I'll check out that rifle section also.
  20. I may be in luck, depending on how far back from the front would be comfortable. It has a metal brace thing in the front and back. The front one goes from the edge back 10 1/2 inches then there is a 9" gap where the metal that the is the top with the formica attached to it the another peice starts and goes to the back. There may just be enough in the "gap" for it to work but I don't know if it'll be too far back. That would put the front of the strongmount 10 1/2" from the front of the desk. I sat in my chair with my legs up inder the desk and put my elbows on the desk like i'd be loading, I think the press may be too high though with the mount. I may have to stand which I think would put it too far back. IF it'll work that channel is 1 1/4 deep so i might could fit a steel plate or a 1x8 or something. I'll have to wait till i get my press I guess and then I should have a better Idea about it all. Thanks again. I'll get it figured out. i think i'll probably need to put the plywood on it. Won't be too big of a deal I don't guess.
  21. about how far are people mounting the strongmount from the front edge of their table/desk? I'm gonna try to load sitting I think mostly but can stand too. There is a metal drawer in the middle where your legs go under the desk. I'm gonna mount it there in the center and can take the drawer out but I'll have to use a steel plate because the drawer won't close if i use 2x4 and I need that drawer. Thanks for the measurements Kevin!! I'm gonna go look it over and see what I come up with.
  22. thanks warpspeed! I have a speer 13 manual i've been reading. Just wondering if there was a common gererally really good load. I'll get into the speer manual i have and check em out again. thanks!
  23. Is there a standard load for a beginner for .223/5.56 in an ar-15 16" barrel with 1 in 9 twist? I should be getting my dillon 550 tomorrow hopefully, and I already bought 3000 cci 400 small rifle primers today. I have some prvi partison empty cases that I've shot, prob 200 or so. I think they are crimped though and I don't have a swager yet. Somebody can recommend a good one if you don't mind. Anyway, I'd like to have some info on what to start off with. I do have 2000 once fired brass on the way from gunbroker. 50% lc and 50% mixed, some crimped some not. I don't really know what powder to get, seems like i'm seeing more people using varget than anything but Im not sure what number powder. I guess I'll go with some 55 gn bullets but dont know what brand to get really. I'm not trying to get super accurate right off the bat. just something to load and get the swing of it and do some just for fun target shooting for now. Please be detailed on the powder and bullets. Thanks!
